Taiwan should join the United Nations as an independent country.
However, China thinks it is impossible when it is in the permanent member of the United Nations. China is very bad existence for Taiwan, Japan, Tibet, and east Turkistan.
@USAsiaEU you're a bad existence in general for humankind when you don't even know shit about the history behind it. Know your facts before flapping your gums. Fyi: I'm not a commie yapping away so you can save it.

Well, it's called civilization, not anarchy, so naturally there will be some instances in which you cannot be entirely free. I agree with ShiaMisha (well said).
I think you should do your research on the definition of freedom and the smoking regulations in Taiwan. You are still allowed to smoke in open areas, where the smoke will not be concentrated in the air.

They're very sensitive to their global "image". Many people have turned blind eyes to what they're doing because of their economy.
And yeah, the aboriginies share some traits but they were really the first inhabitants of Taiwan. Since Taiwan already went through a lot of cultural changes, that affected the aboriginies throughout history. Also, nope, you got it wrong.
Taiwan was an official province of China for only 8 years before it was given to Japan. ^_0 And before that, China never actually claimed Taiwan as its own at all. Only at 1887. Once Japan let Taiwan go, Taiwan became neutral. It never went back to China. It's only China that's saying that Taiwan is still a part of China.
And so, that's kind of what makes this whole situation complicated for both sides. *sighs* I wish for big changes not just for China but also for North Korea and Myanmar in the future.
don't you know history? then you would know that 'all' empires cannot last forever. rulers change, revolutions occur, wars happen - you cannot forcibly control a nation that does seeks its independence politically speaking. eventually taiwan will gain its political independence given the are basically independent from you already in reality.
What is history? History is man-made, not created with imagination. I agree with you when you said you can not forcibly control a nation. The American people gained their indepenence, but by fighting a fierce war.
In a sense, Taiwan is independent from the mainland, and I won't deny that. We are also comfortable with this situation. And I believe it is for the best that Taiwan keeps the status quo. There will be no war, no casualties, no bombards, and the Mainland still does not control Taiwan. Does that sound good enough?
But for Taiwan to seek independence in the UN is just unacceptable. Then there will be a war to fight if you guys do support that. Those who support UN for Taiwan clearly overlook the forthcoming repercussions. Is that really for the good of both the people in Taiwan and in Mainland? Or are you really hunger for blood to be shed so that you guys can enjoy the disastrous scene on TV?
first of all, Taiwanese is not minority since 98% of you guys are ethnic Han Chinese. secondly, Communist party does not equal to China. finally, Taiwan is more qualified to represent the whole China than the mainland.
No. Too be honest, the percentage is 14%, since most of the other people have usually about 10 - 15 % Han, whilst the 14% includes anyone who has over 50% Han.
how come chinese people often use these dirty words to abuse Taiwan? try to make a comment which is meaningful and practical. use ur knowledge and facts to support your idea.
come on guys...stop insulting others... we're not in high school anymore, plus if we really want to get our message out then I really don't think insulting others is such a good idea.
chinese r pathetic....they don't even understand the meaning of human right!!! cuz they never get their right, i guess.. they r so deeply brain wash by their evil goverment, i totally give up to argue with their short-sight vision. UN for Taiwan go
There is only 1 UN seat for China, and it is PRC. I do not believe that the China seat will be replaced by ROC unless PRC change its name to ROC. There is no UN seat for Taiwan right now, but it is unfair and will be changed in the future. Unlimited Taiwan !
Taiwan join UN as a new nation. Taiwan Go Go GO ! Chhut-Thau-Thinn !
As we all know that Taiwan has every right to join Taiwan. As long as the majority of Taiwanese citizens want to join Taiwan, U.S. and other nations will support this rightful action. Chhut-Thau-Tinn ! Taiwan Go Go Go !
You are absolutely right on the "There is only one UN seat for China". But it is for PRC only. Taiwan is NOT a part of China, it is an indepedent democratic nation with freedom, good human rights record. Taiwan's population is 23 million, and its size is 3,6000 square KM.
A survey report issued by Zogby International, one of the three leading public opinion firms in the U.S., as indicating that 55 percent of American people polled said Taiwan should be allowed into the U.N., and that the percentage had shot up 15 percentage points to 70 percent if Taiwan's national referendum on its U.N. bid is endorsed by a majority of Taiwanese citizens
Some 55 percent of "American people (USA)" have shown their support for Taiwan's bid to join the United Nations. The percentage would shoot up to 70 percent if Taiwan passes a national referendum, in an interview published in the German weekly Spiegel yesterday. Leading newspapers, such as the Wall Street Journal, Seattle Times & Oklahoman have voiced their support for Taiwan's U.N. membership bid. Many U.S. congressmen issued statements to uphold Taiwan's right to enter the U.N.
damn...i really wish i had known that this was happening in London...i was trying to find out about any UK events, as I already was aware there were going to be events in Kaohsiung and NY.
damn...i wish i had known about this rally in london...i knew about the simultaneous rallies in Kaohsiung and New York...was trying to find out about any here...i would have been delighted to show my support as an 阿度仔 for the Taiwanese people, for justice, and for democracy.
Japan gave up legal sovereignty of Taiwan in 1952 as per the Treaty of San Francisco. There was no stated recipient.
As per UN Charter such territories that were not seded to anyone, have the right to SELF-DETERMINATION by the people living within that area.
Thus, The future of Taiwan is upto the Taiwanese people themselves, and NOT upto the 1.3 billion chinese on the mainland. This is in keeping with International Law
Furthermore, when Japan surrendered Taiwan, they surrendered it to the Allied Forces. It was handed to ROC for 'temporary' administration only. Taiwan was not ceded to china, or to the ROC, in fact it was not ceded to anyone.
In 1949 when the ROC fled to Taiwan, Taiwan legally was still Japanese territory. Therefore Taiwan NEVER split from China as it was NEVER part of China.
3. The Qing empire was not even a chinese empire, it was a Manchu empire - a people who ethnically were never chinese, never spoke chinese, never wrote chinese characters, and had a different culture, in short they were not chinese.
WRONG! Chinese mean the people of 56 nations who live in China. Ohterwise Sui, Tang, Song... dynasty was NOT Chinese as well. What you talked about was Han nationality that is the one nation of entire China. Different nations took power of China in civil war during Chinese 6000 years. You should get some education before posting.
3. The Qing empire was not even a chinese empire, it was a Manchu empire - a people who ethnically were never chinese, never spoke chinese, never wrote chinese characters, and had a different culture, in short they were not chinese.
Secondly, Taiwan historically has never been part of China. And don't tell me about the 200 year rule by the Qing empire - 1. taiwan was a colony of the empire (just like india was once a colony of the british empire), 2. the qing dynasty never controlled the whole of Taiwan, only the western parts (most of the island was controlled by the native aborigines and qing officials even paid tribute to the aborigines),
(the taiwanese aboriginese - they should at least be given the rights accorded to them in the recent Declaration of Rights for Indigenous Peoples passed by the UN a few days ago).
The Taiwaness are also Chinese. Taiwan has been a part of China from the ancient time. If taiwan want to enter UN, it should get the permission of the 1,3billion Chinese mailand people. I believe all of the 1,3billion people will against taiwan's entering UN.
Firstly, not all taiwanese are chinese. approximately 2% of the population are native aborigines (原住民) who have no relation whatsoever to China, they are Austronesian, have completely different languages, and indeed have been on Taiwan for thousands of years. They are the first and longest possessors of the Island and should arguably have most say in what happens to Taiwan
The American people are mostly Britain. In order for American to be independent, all the British people have to vote for it. Does that make any sense to you?

don't you know history? then you would know that 'all' empires cannot last forever. rulers change, revolutions occur, wars happen - you cannot forcibly control a nation that does seeks its independence politically speaking. eventually taiwan will gain its political independence given the are basically independent from you already in reality.
trachembrod 4 years ago
What is history? History is man-made, not created with imagination. I agree with you when you said you can not forcibly control a nation. The American people gained their indepenence, but by fighting a fierce war.
colebabydog 4 years ago
In a sense, Taiwan is independent from the mainland, and I won't deny that. We are also comfortable with this situation. And I believe it is for the best that Taiwan keeps the status quo. There will be no war, no casualties, no bombards, and the Mainland still does not control Taiwan. Does that sound good enough?
colebabydog 4 years ago
But for Taiwan to seek independence in the UN is just unacceptable. Then there will be a war to fight if you guys do support that. Those who support UN for Taiwan clearly overlook the forthcoming repercussions. Is that really for the good of both the people in Taiwan and in Mainland? Or are you really hunger for blood to be shed so that you guys can enjoy the disastrous scene on TV?

People, thinking before you leap. It is not just a video on youtube, it is about thousands of lives, millions of homes and terrible outcomes.

but yet give more powers to them
hope china one day will give the same respect to taiwan.
harry4657 4 years ago
first of all, Taiwanese is not minority since 98% of you guys are ethnic Han Chinese. secondly, Communist party does not equal to China. finally, Taiwan is more qualified to represent the whole China than the mainland.
hoover1985 4 years ago
No. Too be honest, the percentage is 14%, since most of the other people have usually about 10 - 15 % Han, whilst the 14% includes anyone who has over 50% Han.

There is only 1 UN seat for China, and it is PRC. I do not believe that the China seat will be replaced by ROC unless PRC change its name to ROC. There is no UN seat for Taiwan right now, but it is unfair and will be changed in the future. Unlimited Taiwan !

kuanyu1104 4 years ago
You are absolutely right on the "There is only one UN seat for China". But it is for PRC only. Taiwan is NOT a part of China, it is an indepedent democratic nation with freedom, good human rights record. Taiwan's population is 23 million, and its size is 3,6000 square KM.

A survey report issued by Zogby International, one of the three leading public opinion firms in the U.S., as indicating that 55 percent of American people polled said Taiwan should be allowed into the U.N., and that the percentage had shot up 15 percentage points to 70 percent if Taiwan's national referendum on its U.N. bid is endorsed by a majority of Taiwanese citizens
limyangyang 4 years ago
Some 55 percent of "American people (USA)" have shown their support for Taiwan's bid to join the United Nations. The percentage would shoot up to 70 percent if Taiwan passes a national referendum, in an interview published in the German weekly Spiegel yesterday. Leading newspapers, such as the Wall Street Journal, Seattle Times & Oklahoman have voiced their support for Taiwan's U.N. membership bid. Many U.S. congressmen issued statements to uphold Taiwan's right to enter the U.N.

This is in keeping with International Law
mas329 4 years ago 5
Furthermore, when Japan surrendered Taiwan, they surrendered it to the Allied Forces. It was handed to ROC for 'temporary' administration only. Taiwan was not ceded to china, or to the ROC, in fact it was not ceded to anyone.
In 1949 when the ROC fled to Taiwan, Taiwan legally was still Japanese territory. Therefore Taiwan NEVER split from China as it was NEVER part of China.

3. The Qing empire was not even a chinese empire, it was a Manchu empire - a people who ethnically were never chinese, never spoke chinese, never wrote chinese characters, and had a different culture, in short they were not chinese.
mas329 4 years ago 2

Secondly, Taiwan historically has never been part of China. And don't tell me about the 200 year rule by the Qing empire - 1. taiwan was a colony of the empire (just like india was once a colony of the british empire), 2. the qing dynasty never controlled the whole of Taiwan, only the western parts (most of the island was controlled by the native aborigines and qing officials even paid tribute to the aborigines),
mas329 4 years ago 3
(the taiwanese aboriginese - they should at least be given the rights accorded to them in the recent Declaration of Rights for Indigenous Peoples passed by the UN a few days ago).
mas329 4 years ago 2
The Taiwaness are also Chinese. Taiwan has been a part of China from the ancient time. If taiwan want to enter UN, it should get the permission of the 1,3billion Chinese mailand people. I believe all of the 1,3billion people will against taiwan's entering UN.
hejunlu008 4 years ago
Firstly, not all taiwanese are chinese. approximately 2% of the population are native aborigines (原住民) who have no relation whatsoever to China, they are Austronesian, have completely different languages, and indeed have been on Taiwan for thousands of years. They are the first and longest possessors of the Island and should arguably have most say in what happens to Taiwan
mas329 4 years ago 3
The American people are mostly Britain. In order for American to be independent, all the British people have to vote for it. Does that make any sense to you?
