  • You can fit a Rode videomic if you buy a pearlstone adapter. I got mine from B&H, works great.

  • I love you man. thank you so much!!

  • amazing review

  • Image quality is very similar on all the HD cameras. If you are a pixel peeper you'll see some differences and loose sleep. Don't skimp out and get a $300 mid level camera, you'll hate it.

And if you don't have a fast computer with tons of memory and HD space, forget all this HD camera stuff and stick to 8mm tape or DVD camcorders. The HD files are HUGE and frustrating to manage. ( shoot 4-5 hours of family video a week)

  • I've had the Canon HF G10 and the M41 in my home to play with. Both have the same HD CMOS PRO sensor. I was disappointed. The Sony 560/700 was better in low light. I don't care what the reviews say, in my home tests the high end Sony was better. I love the Sony 560/700 image stabilization, It's buttery smooth. Buy 3 of the cameras you are considering from Crutchfield, evaluate them for 60 days, then send 2 of them back. A camera in your hands at home is the best evaluation.

  • All new HD camcorders do well in normal lighting, what sets them apart is their ability in extreme conditions, low light. The Canon products are bulky and annoying to carry around. Sony 560/700 shoot the best video, sound. Panasonic- most user friendly. In the end, its what you like to carry at the kids functions, birthday parties and Christmas. If you want a camera for tripod use for the family, get the Sony 700, its the best. For an all around carry about camera, get the Panasonic TM90

  • What's the difference between this and Canon VIXIA HF S30?

  • and does it fill up the memory fast sine you said they are bigger file sizes

  • so will adobe after affects work for editing

  • Could you put th video on adobafter affects or windows movie maker? Also what could i fit on the hot shoe?

  • Comment removed

  • Mine could shoot at 34MBps, I can see through girls clothes with mine.

  • Thanks for the review.

  • How's the focus on this? Can you make a video of it focusing on one object (with a blurry background) then focusing it on another? How fast does it focus?

And will it be able to import videos onto Adobe After Effects?

  • What's the difference between this and the S20? Anybody know?

  • Sony 560/700 is the best in low light. My basement test proved it to me. Compared it to the Canon Hf G10.

  • @barbershop22 Try the Panasonics and you will learn:-)

  • @Tobeit I love my Panasonic TM90, its my go camera, fast and great in all aspects and its got a 28mm lens. However my Sony CX700 is a little better in low light, better stabilization and way better sound. Tried the Pana 900, but the darn 35mm wide lens was just too narrow. Now if they could combine the Sony CX700 and the Pana TM90 that would be the camera of the future. Thanks for your channel.

  • @barbershop22 are all 2011 major hd cameras mostly the same quality and the difference from model and company is in the features?

  • @Danz2003 Choose whatever camera company you prefer. All of them make great cameras. I've "borrowed" cameras from Amazon and Crutchfield and settled on the TM90. It has a 28mm wide lens, small in size, shoots real 60p, quick performance, great battery life and it sells for $350. My Sony CX700 is going back to Amazon, its frustrating camera I love to hate. The Panasonic TM900 is not an option, has a cooling fan that makes noise, its 35mm wide lens is way too narrow for inside use.

  • @barbershop22 and theyre mostly similiar quality?

  • Thanks!!! I have this camcorder and now i learn some things about my cam LOL

  • Hi all, I'm currently selling this cam with all the pro extras (i.e. WD-H58 wide angle lens, canon directional headphone, class 10 SD card etc.) The starting price is $1300 (which is cheaper than the camera by itself!) If you're not in Australia, just email me and I can quote you an international price. Item number: 270828700923 My cam is the Legria (PAL) version but if you're tech savvy that won't affect you

    Cheers! :)

  • Was this video made with the Vixia?

  • the info in this vid is just wot i needed 2 hear :) good man keep up the good work :)

  • Hey, Mike. Good job with this review.

  • Does it ALSO take pictures?

  • So you can put anything on the hotshoe exept fora rode mic

  • CONTINUED:

**Also, currently using a Sony SR11 (very good camera, but looking for something with a bit more jazz in the video quality). You can see his videos with the SR11 under "Dylan Faucheux."

  • Great video; very impressed. I am looking for a great camcorder to video my son's wrestling matches that take place is school gyms. I am so CONFUSED! I am looking for something that can handle the low light, has great image stabilization, remained focused on my moving son and gives a great sharp resolution. My max is $1,500, but my wish prices is $1k or less. WHAT BRAND/CAMCORDER DO "YOU" RECOMMEND FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE IN MY PRICE RANGE?

  • ITS NOT A STEREO MIC ITS TWO 5.1 DOLBY SURROUND SOUND MICS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • could it fit a lense that fit on an hf10?

  • @RomanPellegrino if its the same size (58mm)

  • Comment removed

  • YOU LOOK LIKE ASHTON KUTCHER IN SOME HOW !

  • what are the big differences to the s10 and are there better cost effective cams (eg. in stabilisation)??

  • Will I be able to hook a boom mic to it? And yes, I'm a noob to video recording tech. Just want a quick answer. Thanks.

  • how do i make it adapt to my fisheye. When i put my fisheye on it doesnt look like a fisheye when i look through my viewfinder. Help me please. The fisheye was $80 i dont want it to go to waste.

  • does it have- audio attenuation & 5.1 surround sound like the hv series does, cant you get a propietary adaptor for non canon shoes mics? can the software that comes with it create a video in mpeg 2 or wmv file types?

  • so... should i go with s21 or s200????

  • @yournameisstan they are the same cameras except for memory space i think so either or.....

  • @T22FilmProductions I just need to know if i would be able to use it on imovie or final cut. if i can I'm going to buy it I'm sure

  • Hey Mike, are you going to do a full review of the Canon Vixia HF G10? That would be great if you do. I also was curious what your thoughts were on the Canon XA10.

  • does it have threads

  • CAN YOU PUT A MATTBOX ON IT?

  • Cool

  • Wait I'm about to get a rode videomic for this camera? Will it fit on the shoe adapter?

  • @darken731 no

  • Thanks Mike that was just about everything I need to know about Canon Vixia HF S21. Nice camera. But, in my persistence of thought, proprietary means NOGO. Apreciate the effort.

  • what did u film this with ( the review not the hf s21 test shots)

  • Ohh only 720p... What about 60fps at 1080p? Any camera's you recommend?

  • Well where do i start, it's VERY expensive for what it is (compare it to the GE DV1), and you uploaded a 1080p example at 720p duh! It has 2 sd card slots (i think you mean sdhc) the first contains a 4gb card, lol. You could just have ONE 64gb card. This video is retarded.

  • gobay.ru

Все модели аккумуляторов для видеокамер и фотоаппаратов.

  • Is there any pocket sized HD Camcorders that you recommend that don't "simulate" 24 frames per second, but actually produce 24 frames per second, instead of 60i.

  • @GouldRacing180 Yeh the GE DV1, it's about the 10th of the price and will record at 60fps at 720p, and is the size of a bar of soap, it is also waterproof, dustproof, and shockproof. This camera sux, and is too big to lump around with you, so you'll probably miss that magic moment.

  • Pro prices in a consumer product.

  • would you mind sharing the necesary steps taken to prepare and upload video from hfs21? I just bought it and am having hard time

  • this camcorder costs like $1300 :$

  • @connswee I paid $900 at B&H Photo & Video in NYC.

  • Excellent review! Thanks.

  • Someone asked if this camera works with iMovie. It does.

  • I'm seriously thinking of buying this one.

I got one problem, tough. I'm a musician, and I heard some of these cameras have a automatic volume function (to avoid volume distortion) that cannot be disabled.

In my case, I need to be able to connect an external audio source (mixer or mic) and its important that i can control the volume manually.

in this camera, can I switch off this auto-volume control?

  • @Crashoverall go to 3:22

  • great review, is this camera better than the HFs200 and the HFs20?do you think this camera would be good for an indy film? would appreciate your feedback , you sound like you know alot about hd cameras, thanks

  • so if you film in the PF24 or the 24F modes would you edit in a 30 frame timeline?

  • I wanted this camrea so bad for my b day....and then when i saw that he bought a vixia HF R21...i wanted to cry :/

  • wow this camera surprised me....it has everything i want from a professional camera but in a consumer grade camera! sweet

  • You're holding my dream =/

  • How can I and with what can I convert the AVCH footage? Please, please reply!

  • Hi, I was wondering if I can download it directly on to my mac OS X 10.6.6 through imovie? I think I can connect the camera to my mac through the usb port . Will this work? or do I have to use a pc?

    thanks

  • would this be recommended for filmmaking over the canon t2i or hv40?? I'm trying to decide one one.

  • does flash maintain the same quality and hdv tapes

  • HF S30 or this?

  • HF S21 or D 600 T3i????

  • HF S21 or D 600 T3i????

  • would the learning curve for this camcorder be very steep for a novice?

  • Umm yes I have... Canon's color is the best

  • You can also do a comparison by going to vimeo and seeing what people are doing with the cameras. From these two reviews, I am more interested in the Panasonic but I like the idea of bluetooth mics and have seen a lot of Canons work well with lens adapters. Really well.

  • **Hey please help me out..I am a member of a local band and i wanted to shoot pro HD videos..I brought a canon vixia h10.. I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT...Like can you tell me what settings to put it on to have a 1080p full HD video...settings like auto fucus, white balance and all that stuff...PLEASE HELP

  • is the audio good?

  • how do you pop out the light ?

  • Very good review

  • 1:57 That was random lol...

    is panasonic holding you hostage?

  • wow how much does it cost

  • Not only does this have every feature a pro camcorder has but the video quality is actually better than a lot of camera twice the price. I had a gl2 and I know it's not HD but for a $2,700 camcorder this $1000 one puts it to shame and it's no comparison.

  • Just bought one of these and the video quality is as good as a $5,000 camcorder. I've been working in the film and broadcasting industry for more than 20 year and I've used every camcorder under the sun and for the price this is the best deal you could get on any camera.

  • I Bought the Canon Vixia HF S20 for $718.00... B&H's website! CHECK IT!

  • I'm surly recommand this camcorder!

  • what about AVS VIDEO EDITOR 4? is that a good program to use with this camera?

  • Nice Men for model ! Huummm .......... !

  • I heard the audio isnt that great? But I still love all the other features of this camera. Do you think I should stay with this camera dispite the bad audio?

  • nice to see a product review by someone who knows what their talking about. well done mate!

  • Is the Canon Legria HF S21 the same camcorder as the Canon Vexia HF S21?

Sorry if this is a stupid question :D.

    Greetz

    Dries

  • its very expensive just get the h100 instead

  • Does anyone know if the Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate will edit 60p video? I just bought this camera and i cant wait to get it.

  • Hey, Do you have a Samsung S series review?

  • to whom are disliking...are you disliking the camcorder or the review?

  • professional review, 5 stars

  • Wich cam is best for movie recording????????????

  • @rognstranda redcam, if you have enough money :D

  • Could i go into sony vegas 7.0 and look for where the folder with the videos are and drag them into the editor?

  • is this better than hdr-cx550v?

  • hey mike , thois is danna , and i am wanting to purchase this camera , and was wondering , if when u a gusted the shutter and or aperture, weather it just is an effect or weather its actuly optical! as in the lens physically adjusts??? , thanlks mike! :)

  • thx for review.

  • can you use Sony Vegas pro 9 to open up the filmclip you have taken with the camera and start editing??

  • whats the difference between hfs20 and this one

  • Does it have AV In?

  • Ima save up for this so I can film some skating:)

  • that was an excellent review thanks ;) thats the sort of info ive been looking 4! good man n keep up the good work? ;)

  • It is not impossible for one to actually give a review without his or her own personal bias and preference sullying the review. It is not hard!!!

  • does it loose quality if you upload it into after effects??

  • u r cute

  • im a filmmaker and i just want a fairly cheap camcorder that has a focus lens that i can use to do the epic focus changes you see in the movies. i use imovie. should i get this camera?

  • i was just wondering if you can shoot good slowmotion sequences with hf s21?

  • I have $2000 to spend in a camcorder, wich one should i get? I dont have anything on mind but im lookin for opinions, i will apreciate it ty!

  • I subscribed just for the statement, "the only thing we didn't like about this camera is the fact that the battery drains faster than Jagermeister at a UFC party. . . "

  • @AETrainingDavid97 Very good point. We review everything honestly--when it comes down to image quality, the Panasonic HDC-HS700 has the HF S21 beat, and it has better manual controls. Watch our HDC-HS700 review--it explains a lot.

  • @infosyncvideos is their a cheaper Canon Vixia that is basically the same quality but less memory like the Panasonic TM700 to its superior memory father HS700 but same exact quality?

Is it the Canon Vixia 20?

  • @infosyncvideos

I don't know I buy camcorders to record video not to take pictures. I just bought the canon vixia hf s21 and very impressed with it. If you use Sony Vegas Pro you don't need to install the canon software simply import the media off your hf s21 and you are good to go. The vixia model was also used in a motion picture film, think it was a Julia Roberts movie.

  • @infosyncvideos can i put is fish eye on it??

  • @infosyncvideos would you rather buy a canon eos 550d or this one?

  • @infosyncvideos would you rather buy a canon eos 550d or this one? and why? thanks XD

  • I am confused between Sony HDR-XR550V, Canon VIXIA HF S21, Panasonic HD 700 HS. Dont know which one to buy. I want some thing solid great quality great features but simple to use. Money is not an issue if I'm getting top notch quality cam. Any one with expert advice out there which will be the best pick mentioned above

  • Hey man I love your reviews, but I can't find out whether I should buy the Canon HF S200 or the Panasonic SD707, I will use it to make small videos of sport events. What camera would be best for that?

  • Have you had a chance to get your hands onto the Sony line of camcorders, such as the HDR XR/CX 550/350 or the variants that came out this year? I found that the Panasonic 3mos line had great colors, whereas the Sony line had great low light and image stabilization. It would be great to see your review.

  • does this record a TRUE FULL HD file 1920 x 1080? or is this some stretched 1280 x 1080 or upscaled 1440 x 1080 video?

  • @ninjaman58 it is TRUE FULL HD at 1920 x 1080

  • Thank you very much you have been a lot of help.

  • so are you suggesting the cannon or the panasonic?

  • Have you tried to use the down conversion feature (convert HD to SD shots without using the computer)? I would like to know if it works fine and how long does it take to convert.

  • Hi man! I've recently buyed one Legria HFS21, and when i shoot at night i got a lot of grain. Can you tell me how i solve this problem? Thanks

  • hey, i was just wondering, can you just plug it in and put all the footage onto a computer? or is there software that you need to use to put it on the computer? oh and whats the thread size for the camera?

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with you on the low-light noise for sure. My Vixia hf s10 has very noticeable graininess in low light situations. It's quite frustrating. However, for the money and quality I think the hf s20 is worth it for sure, but the s21 is pushing it on price, just for some extra space. By the time you have 32GB internal and two 32GB SD cards, you have well-exceeded the limits of any battery Canon offers for this. Thanks for the review. It was good.

  • what is the difference betwen this one and the Vixia HF S20 ?

  • would it look weird when you put a shotgun mic on it such as the DM - 100?

  • @MadSwiima I have the S10 with the DM - 100. It looks fine if you spend the extra 10 bucks or so on a lens hood. And I would highly advise doing so because the DM100 is longer than the camera without the hood and you can sometimes get unwanted shading from its shadow if your light source is directly overhead. If you have that mic, an extra lens, and a lens hood, then it REALLY starts looking beastly!

  • @pagelynch well...isn't the s21's shoe thingy for the mic in the middle instead of the back?

  • what file does this shoot in?

  • do i need a computer with HD capabilities to upload, edit, and watch the videos on my computer?

    thanks for the review

  • @infosyncvideos is the cinema mode of Canon Vixia HF S21 alot better than the Cinema mode of Panasonic HDC HS700? i have watched your videos on both of the camcorders and i see that the panasonic smokes the hf s21 in overall conclusion. how about on this cinema feature? is this one feature that the canon prevailed with a wide margin? or the panasonic made their cinema feature atleast in the level of canon's top feature like what youve said.

  • Hey bro, i've a question... Vixia and Legria are the same model or there's differences? Cheers

  • i wanna get this camera but why don't canon include a night shot mode like sony's camcorder.

  • You say that this is the top as far as image quality goes. How come my Canon SX-1 (at less than half the price of the HF S21) records at 42 Mbps and has 20x optical zoom and optical image stabiliser, as well as full manual control (iso, iris & shutter) and the best audio quality I have ever heared to date? So when it comes down to image quality only, there is better for much less $. Why can't Canon incorporate this image quality (@ 42 Mbps) in the HF series? It would double the image detail.

  • HOW MUCH?!!!!

  • @drawperfectvideo8 its $1,399.

  • hunter s thompson art...nice!

  • So would you say this is better then the Canon Vixia HF200 because I'm trying to find out what camcorder I should buy, so what do you think?

  • i stuck between this/sony and PANASONIC HS700,is very hard to choice but people says HS700 is better!

  • I'm about to buy this camcorder, does it work with a MAC? please Help!

  • Comment removed

  • @francescoxxx if you are actually retarded enough to ask that you shouldnt be buying this camcorder.

  • @ClaxtonFinn Yes I'm retarded and you don't need to be rude.

  • Excellent review!

  • Hey i'm thinking about starting to do some freelance work this fall (shooting high school sports) and the client requests the footage be shot in hd. Would you say this camera could produce footage good enough to air on tv? How much footage can the hard drive hold? Thanks!

  • aaahh that intro is a sound from one of the logic jam packs - and can be heard on the high school sportsdesk on io channel 14 hahaha

  • I think your on Panasonic's payroll. There is no way 3 - 1/4 inch chips will out-shoot the HF S100's 1/2.6 inch lowlight. The Panasonic is good, but the HF S line has a better concept, 3 chip cameras are going the way of the wind. There is no reason to have them around. Plus the Panasonic overcompensates for a small grainy sensor array over over-saturating the image in low light.

  • @jasonaugustmusic Have you tested both camcorders side-by-side in the same lighting conditions and analyzed the footage on an HD monitor? When you do, get back to me instead of spouting paper specs. We're also looking at the whole package--manual controls, 60p, etc. It's not just a low light contest.

  • @jasonaugustmusic You are right. You can see more in the low light shots, but it looks really dated and messed up on the Panasonic. On the Canon, it's darker but it just looks better to my eyes and where there is lighting it looks amazing. On a Panasonic HVX200 ($3000) it's like that too, you have to work with manual controls and lighting to get a good image, it doesn't pretend. There's a vid of the HF S21 with a wide angle lens at night on Vimeo that says everything.

  • This guy is wrong. Windows 7 includes support for AVCHD. you can "Just throw you card into your computer" under Windows 7 I do it all the time. Hands down the can "HS S" line are the best cameras for the money on the market. His price is wrong also. You can pick it up for 900 bucks.

  • @jasonaugustmusic I was referring to the being able to play your clips straight from the file folder like a .MOV or .AVI. AVCHD does not have a freidnly container like that, unless your computer supports it. You also need a powerhouse computer to handle the intricate coding of AVCHD. And as far as the price, we reviewed this three months ago. The nature of the market is that prices drop. And I'll disagree with you on the best on the market. The Panasonic HDC-HS700 is, based on our tests.

  • @infosyncvideos Please reply to this comment, would the cannon DM-100 microphone fit into this camera nicely?

  • @infosyncvideos very nice review. Thanks. However, your comment RE watching AVCHD is mac specific. Even on Windows vista one can open a folder and watch it natively in windows media player. Not sure why apple is so far behind on this.

I found the entire review spot on, based on my experience with the camera. The proprietary hot shoe is especially aggrevating. Other than that, it's an extremelly nice camcorder.
