The bass player is Gerry McAvoy who used to be the highly estimated band member of the famous Rory Gallagher. After Rory passed away Gerry joined the great british rhythm'n'blues band Nine Below Zero. In other words: Gerry rules.

@ping261054 I had a beer with gerry at the spirit of 66 verviers 7 or 8 years ago after a jig with -9 +band of friends .he had been phenomenal as well as australian gwynn ashton who covered rory .

Dude I AM older than that guy and I have been playing since the 60's with my roots in the blues before anyone knew what they were. I've jammed with some big names and I know a boring bass player when I see one. He has no style, no originality and seems to be stuck in the same bass line for all blues they play.

The bass is an amazing instrument and can be an incredible accompanying sound, but when you only know one line well then it's time to hang it up.

what is your problem ?the bass player is keeping perfect time. what's wrong with you,are you a better bass player,he wouldn't be there if he wasn't any good.

I'm a drummer and I know good bass players from bad ones.

You are missing the point. Listen to his playing and you see that he has a one trick pony. I said nothing about his keeping time. Just that he plays the same lines in every song and that is boring as hell. And yes I AM a better bass player than this guy but not as good as Leo, that's for danged sure. I miss the original TYA....sigh.

Alvin is the STAR... The bass player is a hired gun. You know what you do when you're a hired gun? You stay out of the way of the star! He keeps time, keeps a groove, and makes Alvin look good...well...Alvin makes himself look good! lol The bass player is not out to look like Bootsy Collins...

Alvin is indeed the star, but with the power of his backup he shines even brighter. This band is at best competent. The bass player is weak however and is at best okay. Alvin needs a bassist that at least could be considered in Leo's class even if only at the bottom of that class.

Nine Below Zero is a rock blues band from the UK. Dennis Greves did vocals and lead guitar. A very good album titled "Hot Music For A Cold Night' I recommend highly.

Excellent! Saw Alvin with Nine Below Zero at Mr. Toads in New Haven, CT. After seeing him at large venues so many times, it was great seeing seeing him live in a little club a few feet in front of me, What a treat! Any more videos from that show? Thanks!

TYA has nothing to do with this one. Nine Below Zero was once Rory Gallagher's band and on this particular tour, they backed Alvin Lee.
