  • I remember this so awful it's good

  • Lead singer used to work for Vivienne Westwood. Mentioned something outrageous about the price of her tee-shirts. Like his music, nobody really payed that much attention...

  • This is my ULTIMATE summer tune. What a scorcher 1983 was ( in the uk).Along with David Bowie's China Girl,Flash & The Pan Waiting For a Train,Heaven 17 Temptation,Freez IOU,Spandau's Gold,Herbie Hancock Rockit, this takes me right back to being 18,working in a fashion shop, out dancing every saturday night, first flush of love (lust?) with the man who is now my husband.Great days.

  • Damn is this really 29 years old? Where have the years gone?

  • Was 14 when this was out and still have the 7inch single, brings back so many memms, some happy, some sad but would rather be back in those early eghties years than the way the world is now. Whats gone wrong wiv everyone..

  • Havn't heard this for YEARS!!! The early 80's were great !!!

  • Still don't comprehend his headgear.

  • @brownbess the early 80's was wearing boxing headgear an boots, fook knows why, but i went around wearing jeans and boxing boots.. hey it got the women hooked lol

  • This was his sceond choice name he was known as paddy the dyson!!..

  • I remember this group, their music was way below standard for the time so no-one took them seriously. The lead singer now lives in Prague and has aged terribly. He must have been in his thirties when this video was made.

  • @Karla, I can hear your voice in there.

  • Karla!! It's me Robin. Don't be mad at me, Please!! <3 ?

  • after all these years still cant sit still when i hear this ..................

  • this is brilliant, i love it!!!

  • poor buggers dead i read

  • malcolm mclaren produced this.

  • Warden Bay caravan park,I was 13 and fell in love for the first time with a girl called Ginnet.Hell dunno if the feeling was mutual (we didn't talk about that sort of stuff)!

  • coolio song

  • my dad alwys used to play this song. I love it

  • It's amazing, the record?, not that great, memories of that tine? All good, it's an association thing

  • This is my favourite 'pop trivia' question......only one clever b*gger has ever answered it correctly. What a song!

  • i tried to get this song on i-tunes but it wasnt available.can someone tell me where i can get it on cd if possible?thank you, denis

  • will someone please post kill me quick it should have been a huge hit for them

  • Ah a cracking record I haven't heard for many a year..Thank you for posting it.

  • nice hat

  • fantastic

  • awfull

  • top tune !!!!

  • This group was put together by malcom Mclaren the sex pistols former manager..

  • i love this song! 1983 was my favorite 80's year. take me back, take me back lol xx

  • wow this takes me back , good times just didnt realise how good at the time :( lol

  • What a happy tune! Dolphins are ace!

  • I feel like I'm four years old again each time I listen to this number. Sandpit or paddling pool anyone, in the Summer of 1983...?

  • @ twisted. I remember the 7" vinyl it was the Brightest orange colour with black writing. classic

  • It's amazing, I was thinking about this tune just a few days ago, couldn't remember what it was called. I was watching a Strawberry Switchblade vid on Youtube just now, and this appeared as a suggestion.

  • this is a classic. does anyone remember the 7" vinyl? looking at it close up it looked really weired, but from a distance it looked in sync lol

  • @twistedsistaqteu - yes i had it

  • San Jose State's KSJC was where I 1st heard this. It was played frequently. Happy muisic.

  • Life did seem very simple & carefree back then, mostly because we were young then & doing new things. I was 18 & loved radio 1 back then, could listen until 7pm & love it, then turn to the new (at the time) commercial stations to listen to the same great music again.

No Youtube though & records were expensive so you listened on Sundays nights & tried to catch your favourites on cassette.

  • I have only to hear this and my hart beats like a drum, a hit that should have been played much more

  • Best year for muic 1983

  • Catchy song with strong Caribbean flavour (conjures up images of London's Notting Hill carnival in late August) , I wonder why it did no better than No18 in the UK charts. Nice to hear 'Tantalise' again, thanks for posting it

  • @anorak64 Because 17 other songs sold more copies!!!!!!!! LOL

  • Summer 83 was brilliant. Great music, great weather, 19 years old, working, and bringing in good wedge which I used to go out most nights of the week and this fabulous record brings it all back. As Veryheaven said, oh to go back at 19 years old just for one great weekend out. :-)

  • another bit of music taking me back to good old 802

  • Great track...shame that the video is everything that I despise about the 80's :D

  • another happy tune:)))) sound quality is terrible:((((

  • just try to buy this anywhere...

  • think paul simon had an ear to this when conceiving the graceland album!...

  • @thepofmeister

    Hmmm, good observation.

  • ...Had this "wo wo ee yeh yeh" bollocks going round in my head for years without knowing who dunnit - I LOVE THIS SONG. Many happy mems. Thx for posting

  • Really like this: happy memories. A mate phoned me in 1983 & said "I've just heard the worst record ever made - Tantalise by Jimmy the Hoover". Told him: "I just bought it". No accounting for taste!

  • Great PERTH band

  • Omg...everyone knows hovvers are call Henry..not jimmy

  • haha lol :-)

  • the band name is a bit stupid, what do yo mean like a gobshite? wot does that look like? surely its aboot the music?? the eighties!!!! braw

  • So who came next? "Terry The U-vac"?

  • I haven't heard this for many years. Thank you, this brings back so many memories of that wonderful summer of 1983, oh to be back there and 20 again (in the 80's NOT now)

  • Jimmy, hoover the house for me please thanks you r a helper.

  • I remember watching this on Top Of The Pops in July 1983. Thanks for posting. Haven't heard it in ages....

  • Cattotti you are right cattotti lived in Zambia, however the basist in this song is Flinto Sylvester Chandia who is a Zambian artist.

  • An old friend once told me she was in this band. Just watched the video and sure enough, that's Karla Maddog, the legendary punk rock drummer from Los Angeles.

  • classic summer 1983....love this tune great memories breaking up from school tv am,roland rat, wincey willis, brookiside channel 4,and loads of 1 hit wonders

  • Hoovertastic!

  • Where the hell did you find this?? Definitely in the top 10 of most obscure 80's hits...

I always loved this song and actually went out and bought a turntable around 1999 (long after I'd sold the last of my vinyl records for pennies on the dollar) just because I had picked up the 12" single of this song on ebay and wanted to put it on a mix cd for some girl I was dating at the time. Unfortunately she was not impressed, but at least I kept the receipt. Cheers, and thanks for posting!

  • @jiminator65

if i was your girlfriend we would have lived merrily ever after ;-) best track for a mix cd.

loved it then and love it still. been looking for follow up Kill Me Quick, but never found it.

    Happy 2010

  • Would love to know what happened to these guys, a lost 80s classic

  • If you could turn joy into music it would sound like this. This is the song I would choose to hear just before I die..

  • Brings back memories. I lived in the school where the swimming pool shots were filmed for this video, and spent the afternoon watching the filming.

  • who the singer Derek? if so Yes he's alive and kicking but not in the mood to pay our shores a repeat visit since last xmas!

  • what happened last crimbo??

  • is jimmy still aliive??

  • Did Malcolm McLaren pen this hit ? Great tune by the way !!!

  • I don't think he wrote it. But he did produce it and I think he was also the bands manager.

  • I think the Band wrote it Derek was pretty into those African sounds having lived in Zambia for quite a few years before returning to UK as an adolescent, but its obviously shaped by Mclaren. I'll ask Derek next time I mail him! but the credits on the disc are written by Jimmy the Hoover.

  • Is it right that 'Jimmy The Hoover' is slang for blow job?

  • yep

  • Is it really? That must be why my man keeps saying it's about time I got busy with the Hoover!

  • @poppy757 Jimmy was a mad Coke head hence 'hoover'.

  • I'd like to see more artists wear head guards on stage. Nice touch.

  • anyone know wot happened to jimmy and his hoovers???????

  • where did u find the video for this??? amazing, love this tune xxxxxxxxxxx

  • this reminds me of syd barrett's 'love song'.

  • Lovely music!

The kind of music that up-beat in summer holidays. =D

  • Oh memories. I was thinking about derek this evening and it lead me to look at this video. Happy memories from years ago......It reminds me of Kensal Green for some reason....! Where is he? Where did he go?

  • Gosh!! I was thinking of Derek Dunbar tonight and it lead me to look at this video.....Happy times indeed !!!! Where is he? What happened?

  • whoop whoop! A cheery tune that reminds me of being 15. Thanks for posting!

  • i stand corrected, twist and shout was by ian dury of all people. the amazing b-side to this song (12" version) was "sing sing"... would love to hear that one again too!

  • Shame it was a one hit wonder - what a great feel good song ! I'll be humming this one all night :-)

  • Fantastic, reminds me of some good times!

  • Thanks for the video, I personally know Flinto, He is one of my Mentos......I feel iam doing what he did many years ago..Studying in Europe...and releasing the energy

  • I have always loved this song. So few people these days remember this one!!!

  • Hello Sausage.

You decided to play then ? x

  • Just found this & love it .

  • Where can I find the lyrics to this song?

  • I bought this all the way back in the rather brilliant summer of 1983. Great song.

  • omg the last time i saw this vid was when i was really little and the original on vhs we got a copy from derek my dads cous

  • 26 yrs ago its unbelievable only seems like a 26 days ago.

  • Is my memory playing tricks on me or was this song the B side (or double A side) to a massive remake of Twist and Shout, the old Beatles song? Or was it another group?

  • It's such a good song and but there is a TOTP performance of this i've watched twice which of him on July 7th 1983 and July 21st 1983. i wish they could upload them here.

  • How is Derek these days and what's he doing?

  • Well... AT LAST. One of the very few songs I bought the single of. I played it over and over again and I've often looked for the tune on youtube and it's finally here. Whoopie!

    Never seen the video before.

Just love the sound... so jangly and happy.

  • a malcolm mclaren creation i believe.

  • A one hit wonder - but definitely one of the best tracks of the 80s! I love this!

  • Recall at the time hearing that they were from / lived in Bermondsey

  • classic 80's hit.great video.

  • I'm pretty sure that the Bromley Contingent member that was in this band was also with the Pistols on the infamous Bill Grundy interview.

  • I know the singer Derek was friendly with Berlin of the Bromley contingent?

  • Who were the Bromley Contingent?

  • It was the name given to a group of the Sex Pistols original fans, most of whom came from Bromley, Kent. They included Siouxsie Sioux and Billy Idol.

  • Thanks - moved to Bromley a while back - it doesn't exactly seem hip!

  • Apparently they had quite a few raunchy parties there too. Bowie lived in Bromley aswell as you probably know.

  • Another great Liverpool band .

  • are you sure?

i think one of them was one of the original sex pistols fans 'the bromley contingent'

  • You are right 1 of the band members were from Bromley - and indeed was part of the original Sex Pistols Bromley Contingent. What a wicked song- brings back loads of memories. There is a rumour on Wikipedia that one died in a boating accident! Anyway they were more of a London band than Liverpool.

  • I've lways liked this track and am finally glad it's on here!

  • ANNI HES BEAUTIFUL

  • Beltin, I remember this in my long summer holidays in 83 before I went into the sixth form

  • wonderful - reminds of of days when my kids were young and so was I

  • Derek effortlessly beautiful, how could anyone ever fall in love again when that was your first experience of love - at least he loved me too!

  • Yeah thats exactly Derek Effortlessly beautiful how can you fall in love again when that was your first?

  • Well thanks at last Derek was my first boyfriend and we ran away to London Together in the year nineteen oatcake. This is true ask him. He is still as beautiful today or at least last christmas when I missed him but friends say he s still the same! Love ya Derek if you ever watch this yours Anne xx

  • Thank you m- never seen the video for this - the vinyl is still in my collection. Wonderful summer that was.

  • Ahhh Derek.........still dream of those hot summer nights in Aberdeen Hutcheon Street 1977. You were just as hot as I remembered.

  • Actually I remember him more for when I was sharing a flat with him and Big M. in Bankheed Rd. Drop me a line and compare notes or is that you mike?

  • Oh, for the Summer of '83! Just finished college and listening to the likes of this great little song on my hi-fi!!

  • the beautiful derek dunbar + jimmy 1983 been searching this vid for a long time

    thanks for posting

  • He is beautiful isn't he at least I can say I had the most beautiful man in the world as my first [and probably only]love.

  • I never knew there was a video to this tune. What a lovely tune, takes me back to happier and simpler times in 1983, round about when I was failing my A levels!

  • Sbsolutely fantastic track, first time i`ve ever seen the video but i do own i signed copy of the record!! Bimon Barker rules!!!

  • Great song - very dodgy vid indeed but who cares!! First time I've heard it in far too long. If you like this, try Captain Sensible's 'Glad It's All Over'

  • ah its 1983 again. classic. bring back 1983. happy days.

  • If you can get hold of the extended mix, it's worth listening to.

  • thank you so much for this.a real lift in these dark times and a reminder of a better, seemed that way, time.
