Based on the color of the tiles outside the room, it looks like Walnut-Locust on the Broad Street Line. It is easy to wander accidentally from the Broad Street Concourse underground to the Walnut-Locust station without even realizing it. :)

But I've eaten the candies or "Carbohydrate Supplement" and those were quite good!

Yes, I don't think there's any debate that an asteroid could indeed take us out. It probably would be a worse idea to nuke it and break it up into chunks... might be better off just hoping the one big chunk misses us! I don't think anyone really believed that, but they couldn't bring themselves to tell children that they were utterly doomed in the event of a nuclear attack. We still live with the possibility of this happening today. Inevitably, there will be a full scale nuclear war, unless an asteroid or something else takes us out first.
