That's precisely the point of evolving an (aposematic) ocelary system: to scare the shit out of birds and other potential enemies that wanted to aproach them. I've even read articles by lepidoptherologists, who confess that seeing some especies in action is quite impresive and breath-taking.

So is perfectly normal (actually natural) to initialy feel quite nervous with these animals around you; of course, there's no reason at all to be cruel with them: they're harmless.
