I've been to Calcutta, India. It's a huge slum of 20 million people, and believe you me, the smell that greets you as u enter that place is enough to kill an elephant. The poverty and filth is shocking. Malnourished children everywhere. Why it's not on mainstream tv, with Bob Geldof and co doing a concert to help those folks remains a mystery. And this is a country whose citizen was boasting of the number of billionaires they had.

the point of the pictures is to show you that despites all the negatives, kenya is moving forward. when people invest, jobs are created and when people are employed the life of their families and communities improve. i doubt all of american wealth is own by Americans alone, you have japanies, chinese, arabs etc. kenya happen to be the same, we have indians, arabs and westerners and kenyans are investing as well. all this investments comes with infrastruture development.

I've been to Calcutta, India. It's a huge slum of 20 million people, and believe you me, the smell that greets you as u enter that place is enough to kill an elephant. The poverty and filth is shocking. Malnourished children everywhere. Why it's not on mainstream tv, with Bob Geldof and co doing a concert to help those folks remains a mystery. And this is a country whose citizen was boasting of the number of billionaires they had.

It's so nice to see beautiful nairobi ... I lived there for a little over a year. All filled w/ beautiful memories of the serene city, the happy people as well as the beautiful weather. I wanted to add one note though, we(africans) would be fooling ourselves if we look away and deny the suffering of our own people. Instead, hand in hand w/ showing this side of Nairobi, we can try to fix the ugly side too.

Much like the start of a new town center in a small town, it's not worth wasting the time and resources to cover those stories.
Newscasts jobs are heavily dependent on ratings so they will only broadcast worthy news. The only ones that can profit from showing the poor sides of Africa are those requesting contributions to supposedly help the needy African people.
