During the kongo conflict, the german commander who was in charge of special teams from all over the world including SAS, Seals and many more said that if something whent wrong SOG would be his "Triumph card"

@TheF15ace No, it was even published in Flight Journal Magazine, on the Swedish army website and in the pdf-report from the exercise. It was even detailed HOW they beat the US planes: The Jas 39 has a sys-link between all crafts, while the US used AWAC's to coordinate fighters. The US planes had their radars on (thus giving of larger signatures) while the Jas 39's split up with radar off - except for one 2-seat plane who shared it's radar via link, making the rest "invisible". Knowledge ftw.
Some countrys may have some better equipment than US. But no one have the overall training and experience in war etc etc as US. Doesnt matter if Gripen is 10x better than F16 or what ever, when US have milion hours more flytime and a hell of a more planes.
Swedes have a promising fighting force. They should participate more in wargames with us Indians. :). If Russia, US, France, UK, Israel etc do, then Sweden should also be welcomed.

Hey if it was up to me and I was the all ruling king of the USA (dictator) I would seriously try my hardest to join forces with Norway and Sweden and basically make our 3 countries 1 domination country. or at least make it so our citizens from each country could freely travel between the 3 countries. And anyone with Scandinavian background family history could get citizenship in their home country...

@APRichelieu There are US made systems in it. But to say it´s made from US parts is just whisful thinking on your part.
Those local modifications to the engine comprise specifically: combustor, compressor, turbine, afterburner and engine control, what´s left is Pratt & Wittney. It has bettre fuel economy, more power and is more reliable than the US made one.
The reason for the choices of many of the systems is for NATO compatibility.

I'm swedish and i'd bet american pilots are alot better due to one fact experience! Experience is probably the best tool out there in a fullscale air war, just look at russian pilots in vietnam even though the flew outdated aircraft they still performed.
Anyhow even though the US can deliver a hefty blow the best airforce in the world is probably IAF despite their outdated aircraft they have their equivalent to the sidewinder that is outperforming anything out there, plus the pilots have exp.
This is the exercise in which the JAS-39 Gripen won in every engagement with US aircraft.
The US still flies wingman and in tight packs in engagements while the JAS used their datalink to connect, where a pack of planes flew with their radars off while a two seater JAS fed the lead planes with info to surprise the US aircraft.
The JAS gives as much radar signature as a goose with its radar off.
Not to be mean but without the F-22 I'd call the USAF and navy obsolete.

Swedish and American pilots flew on the SAME side (Blue Team) while the USAF 18th Aggressor Sqdrn, flying the F-16D, simulated flight characteristics and tactics of select hostile nations (Red Team). It is ridiculous to suggest that these scripted mock battles prove superiority of one aircraft over another. That is not the design, nor was it the outcome.

If you actually knew anything about military technology you would know that aircraft with comparable levels of technology (Gripen is in the top along with other latest western fighters), they have different strengths and weaknesses. Btw, Sweden maintained what was termed an armed neutrality, which meant that we produced very nearly every weapon system domestically: fighters, bombers, tanks, you name it. The idea was to make us a hard enough pill to swallow for the Soviets.

lol, NATO and USA has been having a lot of exercises in Sweden.. not only airforce, you had also some soldiers here doing winter training when I was in the army.
My father works with the JAS 39 and develops maintenance systems.
He told me about the exercises with the USAF in Alaska a few years ago where the swedish fighters won everwhelmingly in the engagements they had.
The USAF still uses the outdated wingman flying whereas the JAS-39s are connected by a data link so you can see everything through your partner's radar who can be miles away. The USAF didn't know how to dispurse their planes when they saw 20 dots on their radar all ready to strike.

Our recources are to scarce to give big trainings. We dont also use our military so aggressively, so its no use for us paying those enourmous amounts. The process of nitrating glycerin into nitroglycerin and also the process in binding it into "dynamit" (english; dynamite) is also another swedish patent dating back 100 years.
All German competence in artillery and anti air moved to Sweden due to strict laws against Germany after ww1. The Germans did invest a lot in Sweden in order to keep the know-how in the years between the wars, then they moved the production back to germany when they broke the threaty.. Look it up yourself, the companies were founded officially just a few years into the Hitler regime.. But anyways, the price in iron ore sky rocketed before the war, making us richest in Europe around that time:D

@TheF15ace No, it was even published in Flight Journal Magazine, on the Swedish army website and in the pdf-report from the exercise. It was even detailed HOW they beat the US planes: The Jas 39 has a sys-link between all crafts, while the US used AWAC's to coordinate fighters. The US planes had their radars on (thus giving of larger signatures) while the Jas 39's split up with radar off - except for one 2-seat plane who shared it's radar via link, making the rest "invisible". Knowledge ftw.

Some countrys may have some better equipment than US. But no one have the overall training and experience in war etc etc as US. Doesnt matter if Gripen is 10x better than F16 or what ever, when US have milion hours more flytime and a hell of a more planes.

Hey if it was up to me and I was the all ruling king of the USA (dictator) I would seriously try my hardest to join forces with Norway and Sweden and basically make our 3 countries 1 domination country. or at least make it so our citizens from each country could freely travel between the 3 countries. And anyone with Scandinavian background family history could get citizenship in their home country...

and a lot of the electronics inside is US as well.
Engine is US made, with local modifications.
More or less it is a plane built from US parts.

Those local modifications to the engine comprise specifically: combustor, compressor, turbine, afterburner and engine control, what´s left is Pratt & Wittney. It has bettre fuel economy, more power and is more reliable than the US made one.
The reason for the choices of many of the systems is for NATO compatibility.

I'm swedish and i'd bet american pilots are alot better due to one fact experience! Experience is probably the best tool out there in a fullscale air war, just look at russian pilots in vietnam even though the flew outdated aircraft they still performed.
Anyhow even though the US can deliver a hefty blow the best airforce in the world is probably IAF despite their outdated aircraft they have their equivalent to the sidewinder that is outperforming anything out there, plus the pilots have exp.

This is the exercise in which the JAS-39 Gripen won in every engagement with US aircraft.
The US still flies wingman and in tight packs in engagements while the JAS used their datalink to connect, where a pack of planes flew with their radars off while a two seater JAS fed the lead planes with info to surprise the US aircraft.
The JAS gives as much radar signature as a goose with its radar off.
Not to be mean but without the F-22 I'd call the USAF and navy obsolete.

Swedish and American pilots flew on the SAME side (Blue Team) while the USAF 18th Aggressor Sqdrn, flying the F-16D, simulated flight characteristics and tactics of select hostile nations (Red Team). It is ridiculous to suggest that these scripted mock battles prove superiority of one aircraft over another. That is not the design, nor was it the outcome.

Come on, come on... If you actually knew anything about military technology you would know that aircraft with comparable levels of technology (Gripen is in the top along with other latest western fighters), they have different strengths and weaknesses. Btw, Sweden maintained what was termed an armed neutrality, which meant that we produced very nearly every weapon system domestically: fighters, bombers, tanks, you name it. The idea was to make us a hard enough pill to swallow for the Soviets.

My father works with the JAS 39 and develops maintenance systems.
He told me about the exercises with the USAF in Alaska a few years ago where the swedish fighters won everwhelmingly in the engagements they had.
The USAF still uses the outdated wingman flying whereas the JAS-39s are connected by a data link so you can see everything through your partner's radar who can be miles away. The USAF didn't know how to dispurse their planes when they saw 20 dots on their radar all ready to strike.

Our recources are to scarce to give big trainings. We dont also use our military so aggressively, so its no use for us paying those enourmous amounts. We do a very good plane for defending and all subsystems. We cant give your pilotes training they dont have themself. All the swedes brag about here is quality of there planes, That is no lie. no big mouth. just reality.

Finland was attacked by the Soviet union, 3 million men storming into their country - they slaughtered them all and kicked them back into mother Russia again, with their tails between their legs. The Finns didn't even have enough weapons for their 400k army, but they were born in the woods and knew the terrain and to ski.

Bofors 88 mm, named FLAK 88 when taken into service by the German forces, was known as the best and most brutal tank killer in the world at that time. They even used it in their Tiger tank series (Tiger and Königstiger).
The process of nitrating glycerin into nitroglycerin and also the process in binding it into "dynamit" (english; dynamite) is also another swedish patent dating back 100 years.

The german 88 was made by the german company Krupp.
The original 75 mm prototype was a combined effort between Krupp and Bofors, but theres no reason why Bofors should claim the 88.

All German competence in artillery and anti air moved to Sweden due to strict laws against Germany after ww1. The Germans did invest a lot in Sweden in order to keep the know-how in the years between the wars, then they moved the production back to germany when they broke the threaty.. Look it up yourself, the companies were founded officially just a few years into the Hitler regime.. But anyways, the price in iron ore sky rocketed before the war, making us richest in Europe around that time:D

In the long run, Sweden would've had severe difficulties with an opponent like Russia.
However, a well orchestered attack on prime Russian targets followed up by an invasion of Swedish tanks (Sweden today is one of the world's largest manufacturers of heavy trucks! - translate this into capacity of spewing out tanks) could stall Russia.

Jag har hört att det är svårt med privatköp. Kanske man skulle starta ett securityföretag, typ Blackwater... tror ni man kan licensköpa Gripen om man lovar att vara snäll? :)

Lika bra resultat 08 redflag nellis arizona. Fast då var inte amerikanerna förvånade eller häpna längre....De var förtvivlade! När inte deras fega motattacker funkade. 99% operational availability, 1% due to a faulty Rafael Litening pod. The exercise was to simulate a UN mission with the US F-16, Canadian CF-18, Japanese F-15J and Swedish JAS 39C/D on the blue side.
