I live in New brunswick, and beofre they redid the Trans-Canada highway between Sussex and Fredericton, there used to be a sign labelled "Shortcut to Moncton" which was in fact a shortcut... to Moncton... The shortcut ended in Salisbury where it met back up with the main highway. I always got a kick out of that sign. I'm sure this song is an ode to that sign.
