Okay, okay, enough joking. I think when they were making this original movie, they should've casted Alain Delon for Jean-Louis Trintignant's role. Then, it woulda been much much much much much more popular!!!
Okay, how do I know Alain Delon since I sound too young to know him??? Well, just like masterofkenpokarate, I grew up in Asia, watching all the good old French cinema. Unlike his father, my old man let me watch them all! And my mother told me I'd look like Alain Delon when I grow up
@HeavyHookPunches : I know she's a stupid whore, and she's not FRENCH although she has a little bit of French in her. BUT as far as her appearance alone is concerned, she's the closest thing to my stereotypical image of a sexy French chick. Believe it or not, an image of a gorgeous French brunette had been stuck in my mind ever since my childhood. In the image, she was standing in front of Arc de Triomphe, totally sad-faced. It's a true story. I still have no idea who she was.
Great piece of music thats been in the back of my mind, coming to the surface every once in while, for 40 odd years. Its really romantic, so typically french and just a simple yet wonderful piece of music. Cheers!
But I didn't care. I'd always cherished it until I completely forgot about it while I focused on my new life in U.S.A. One day, not long ago, I accidentally saw the movie's ending on CBC. I immediately shouted, "Jesus! I know this movie!" Then, I rented it and watched the entire movie. It was an unbelievable experience. My American wife found it somewhat boring, but I enjoyed it tremendously. It's a brilliant combination of highly artistic music, scenes, dialogues, mood, sadness, joy...
@masterofkenpokarate : You married an American woman? Shame on you! Americans don't appreciate anything French. They're busy, insulting and making jokes about French. No wonder many people around the world don't like Americans.
Let me assure you. I'm an American and most of us are not as stupid and Neanderthal as our loud-mouthed right wing. I love France (been there twice) and French movies. Please don't judge us all by the highly vocal nutjobs who dominate our political discourse.
During the entire 70's, South Korean TV kept playing this movie over and over (since it was an international or global blockbuster), especially on Saturday afternoon. At that time, I was a little kid, but I loved this movie's theme so much I used to play it with whatever instrument I could play. My father used to yell at me, "The movie isn't for a kid!"
This film not only made me fall in love with French Cinema but in films as an art form in general. The music is one of the greatest soundtracks ever composed. Absolute perfection!
1966 I remember seeing this film many times over. I was 18 and graduating from high school. I cried. Actually, I haven't chosen to see it since, too painful.
Those were the days when a movie stayed in the theaters of months, and there were no videos/CDs.

No, no, give Jean Claude Van Damme another chance to become an international star. Star him and Megan Fox. And make the film rated 'X'.
I'll watch it, wouldn't you??
