The trouble with this generation, Ullrich, Pantani Armstrong it is that they were dopped with EPO or blood transfusion, that kind of doping can change a donkey to a horse race. So it is diificult to judge what kind of rider they were. Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault, fignon, Lemond, were taking amphetimines or steroids but it was rather more products to keep up with suffering. They were still great champions.
To watch this is to realize that if Ullrich had worked harder and been more disciplined he might not have lost the tour for 5 or 6 years after this. He is at least 10 lbs lighter than later tours. He should have won at least two...minimum. I think at this weight he beats Lance at least a couple of the years in Lance's run
Agreed, Ulrich could actually attack on climbs like in here.. like watching a high revving V8 engine do its thing. Absolutely smashed the competition. But 10lbs of unnecessary weight on long climbs really eats the life out of you.

was kann er denn schon dagegen tun, dass lance halt doch immer den kleinen tick besser war, obwohl ich gerne mal ein duell zwischen dem ulle von 1997 und dem lance von 2005 sehen würde
