Hè, theblacknightrider of you think you knowhow better, you should count better. Because on 2 and 4 he plays crossstick and on 3 There is no kick, even no guitar bass note. He plays the kick on 1a and 3a.

so tasteful. As a drummer I get tired of people always wanting me to do something flashy like they want me to prove I can play the drums or something. Just cause I can don't mean I have to. I love drummers like Sly or Questlove who know how to hold back and lace a track TASTEFULLY

just letting you know, the kick should be on three. some asked the time signature, its 4/4. you gotta listen more precisely to it but no stress you doing well seeing that you not use to the feel of the music yet. the basic pattern carries the snare and bass drum on beat 3

Yeah, the bass drum is on the two here, not a one drop as Sly plays... though its still a cool groove and would work in a reggae song.

Actually this groove would sound better w/o the footed one, the up-beated bass drum would be more accentuated.

thats not one of Sly's techniques..... hitting the cross stick like that. Hitting the other stick like that makes a different sound, not like the one on the record.

Kick on the 3 or the 1&3 is the foundation of many reggae beats,.

Yeah I like this groove, actually i played it some time ago. but i guess on slys track the second rimshot is doubled by the hihat, so its not stick on stick. Just for notice: I like it that way you play it better, cause theres more soundvariation. tomorow i want my bandmates to jam with me on that :-) thanks.

in fact.. Sly is the greatest reggae drummer, but the author's of the clip is a "little" wrong.. if you listen the original track, you will notice that sly's play a 2-times inna sidestick, not side-stick with the left and beat with the right stick on 2nd beat.. so only that way the vibe will be perfect!!!
