@tallliza - Apparently, you've never read the Jewish history, as written by Josephus. Not only does it talk about Jesus (from a hostile perspective, I might add), but, when reading the way Joesphus writes, it also points to another of his historian contemporaries - Luke. The formal writing styles are very similar. There's lots of evidence for the story that would be 'independent' of the biblical scriptures. But, I would suggest that you don't want to see that reality.

Secondly, you seem to ignore that Josephus text has been tempered with. This is not even contested by the high eclesiastical authorities. thirdly the earliest shred of gospel dates from around 70 AD(might be wrong, I have to check it ). So, you can hardly claim exact historical writings 70 years after the facts.

The proof that he was NOT a Christian is easy - if you read HIS conclusion about who Messiah was, he doesn't point to Jesus - but to the Roman governor(?) of the time. (I'll verify that)

As for gospels not being valid - I disagree. 70 years is hardly enough time for anybody to become 'urban legend'. The first of the NT writings were likely that of Paul, ~ 30 - 45 AD

@tallliza Jews didn't WANT to believe it. THEIR idea of a 'messiah' was a militaristic one; one who was going to turf out the Romans, and make them top nation again (like in the days of David). When Jesus says "The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe the good news", Jesus is telling the Jews not only to repent of their sins, but also to repent of their selfish expectations of what God was going to do for them. In short, Jesus was saying "The Romans aren't your enemy - Satan is."

@tallliza not nonsense at all. The idea of a militaristic Messiah figure is right from their own history (i.e. Joshua, which means "God Saves"). So, the link is easy: a Messiah in Jesus' time (as expected by the Jews) would have been one to deliver them from their enemies (whom they believed to be the Rome - a deliverance much like that of the Exodus from Egypt, and how the Canaanites, Hivites, Jebusites, etc. were driven out of their inherited land before them).

@tallliza depends on which group of Jews you are asking. Some *do* put the pieces together, and come up with Jesus as Messiah. I challenge you to read "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. Lee was an atheist, and wrote as an atheist. He wrote the book, because his wife became Christian, and, in seeing the remarkable changes in her, he had to thoroughly investigate (he was a reporter in Chicago) - he interviewed several experts in their respective fields, one of which, was a Messianic Jew.
