I really tried my hardest to listen to this and have an open mind, I found it boring and hard to follow. I like a very wide range of music and have no favourites, maybe I have to listen a few times to get it x.x
@KahopeHigie ....I finally got it. I woke up this morning, and without hearing any other sounds, listened to this. I think the world is so hectic sometimes, that we cannot appreciate the small and less 'busy' things in life. I like it, I would have to be in a totally chill mood to listen to it, but I like it.
jesus christ, why does the idm and minimal genre have the MOST posers going like "oh it's so deep, oh you will never understand how deep this is", shut up. it's just some good music. you don't have to be a genius or something in order to like some music
@seriouslyWeird i mean, the genre you specified is called "intelligent dance music"... i cant think of a more pretentious title for a genre.. so i'd imagine it would attract that kind of person lol
@nithhoozack So 1998 is 'new dubstep wave' to you? WAKE UP, look around you, 1998 was the year this track was released, that was 13 years ago, when dubstep was just an embro and only later in the early 2000's was it dubstep with people like Plasticman, with a C not a K. Try and use your obviously deadened sensory perception to enlighten you to 'otherworldy' music, which has it's place, even if you don't like it.
@MRBEENUMBER1 you did, i know this isn't dubstep. I own all the plastikman albums. I spent a lot of money supporting him. I know what i'm talking about.
@nithhoozack well all i can think of is that you must have been completely off your tits when you wrote 'Fuck this new dubstep wave'. Also this is not any made up genre of music such as 'otherworldy music', it what it is and it doesn't need labels attached to it. Lastly, if you own all the Plastikman albums it does show there's hope for you yet
@nithhoozack I mean that the new dubstep that is coming out is not good. Dubstep is Boxcutter and Burial, stuff like that, and not Skrillex, etc. I was saying that Plastikman's music is above all that. He changed music.
Now, everyone chill the fuck out and enjoy the song. :)
Love Plasticman. He was supposed to support Moby at a gig at Leicester Univercity - It's the only reason I went but he didn't turn up - Loads of people left while Moby was performing because of this.
The weird part is my mechanical wall clock usually stops at exactly this time... sometimes at night, sometimes at day... But ...yeah. time kinda changes.
maybe i dont know much about what this two have discussion, but i have feeling like i`m in that space right now..soaking my feet in the crystal clear water..
Rhythm is the repetition of space between notes and sounds, not the notes and sounds themselves. Most music focuses on the notes and sounds, this music focuses on the space between notes and sounds, the real meaning of rhythm and structure is held in that space. The sounds in this song exist to make us more aware of space, giving us the ability to feel and know the underlying structures that are otherwise silent.
@modulomath perfect example of this is right at 1:32 with the double beat where there shouldnt be a beat. so interesting and sounds so fucking amazing. this keeps your head noddin.
@modulomath although what modulomath says sounds great it makes absolutely no sense. Rhythm is the timing that notes and sounds are played in. It is the pattern of sound that informs the rhythm not silence. Just to clarify... if at any point you hear something then that is not silence you are listening to. Atmospheric sounds are commonly used to make the listener aware of space, and that is apparent in this song, it is not because of the rhythm that this is the case.
@Ascintilla You believe in notes, I believe in space, that is how we are different. Between the notes is a timeless void, undefined. When you watch your clock you watch it tick, tick, tick away the seconds, but do you know what happens between those ticks? Nothing and everything happens. The "tick", ie, the "moment" of awareness is a flash, and the space between moments is forever, eternal, unmeasurable. That is what this song teaches us, that awareness is just a tick in infinity.
@modulomath Because you are more interested in the space doesn't mean that this is what informs the rhythm. I understand what you are trying to say, but you need a different word to describe it... not rhythm. Your example of the ticking clock also highlights my point. I know that you are aware of something that you need to communicate, I just think that you have not found the right words. Your meaning is of a spiritual influence and an emotional connection you have with the space. Am I wrong?
@Ascintilla You are wrong. Any sounds can maintain the same rhythm, it is the space between sounds that DEFINES rhythm! Surely you understand this? I can keep the same 4/4 beat with a cymbal, a base drum, a gong, you name it. The key to interpreting rhythm is the space between notes, however, I sincerely believe that most people focus on the sound more than the space.
@modulomath But Rhythm is caused by the timing of the notes. How can you say it is only the space between the notes when the notes are what separate the space. And if the notes are what separate the space then they are what create the pattern. And the pattern creates the rhythm. So it is the space and the notes that create the rhythm not just the space. I accept what you are saying... people focus on the sound more than the space but cannot say that the space is more important than the notes.
@Ascintilla Space is more important. A note is determined by the amount of space it occupies or leaves unoccupied. It seems that space is less important because space is abundant. Space is the most important, space gives definition, without definition there is no perception. Space always exists because it is fundamental to perception. Notes fade in an instant and are gone, space is everlasting. Space is what creates beauty, simple elegance.
@modulomath Honestly, I understand what you are saying. But it is not silence you are listening to. You are listening to a note that is played that doesn't fade in an instant. You are listening to an atmospheric sound not silence. As long as you can hear that sound then it is not space. The space is being filled. The only part of the song above that has any space is the beginning and the end. Every other part of the song has note being played and no space.
@Ascintilla You think you know what I am listening to? You don't, you know what I am saying, yet you argue. I suggest we agree to disagree and pursue our lives according to our own beliefs.
@modulomath I was under the impression you wanted to discuss it. And if something is understood that doesn't preclude it from being challenged. I wasn't trying to change your opinion and I was always going to pursue my life according to my own belief and expected you to do the same. It was only ever a discussion
@Ascintilla Ok. The idea isn't that only space is there, as I stated initially, this song exists to make us more *aware* of space. Think of a conversation with nothing but perfectly regular pauses of unwavering length. That is what you call mundane. Like a conversation, meanings unspoken can be created by making no sound, by pausing and letting words and sounds echo for a moment in time. Then you realize there is another level of communication, a shapeless/soundless form.
@modulomath I never disagreed with that point. What I disagreed with is that the space is what creates rhythm and not the notes themselves. I don't believe that this music focuses on the space between the notes, I believe that the space is the most important part of the song and this is created using atmospheric textures, not space between the notes. So I UNDERSTAND and agree with most of what you say, but you are not answering what I disagree with.
@modulomath Sounds and notes are still the center of the music but they become different, cause they are made by different means, and thus the space and structure you're speaking about is not between them, but it's part of them. This also was the revolution of rock'n roll, as musicians began using electric guitars instead of old fashioned instruments; however now, you cannot speak any more of a new sound. For instance, the Portishead, show an already well defined hybrid of sounds.

@modulomath Technically, you're right. There is more noise, than silence, even for our relatively weak hearing. and i totally forgot what i was gonna say next...
@modulomath In the Arkives Book he talks a lot about this and how people don't really listen to music anymore, but he never changed for the masses, and yet he still thrives. His music takes the listener to other dimensions. He recalled from tripping, it was like climbing into the speaker, a gateway. This is beautiful music.
If you think this song is repetitive and stupid your not truly grasping the song.. Stay away from Techno, Minimal and especially Trance.. You will not be able to comprehend the music and its depth..

This is on the album: Artifaks. It was released as the final in the trilogy begun with Sheet One. As someone who was in Detroit during the Sheet One->Artifaks period seeing Rich at the first 3 Jak events as well as Jak-O-Lantern in Windsor, this album was a group of inspirations from those parties-but while he was "locked out" of the US because of customs, permitting, and tax issues. Sad time for Detroit parties-and what we then thought was the end of his Plastikman period.
Additional note: The name Pakard is taken from the name of the empty factory where the Packard automobile was made in Detroit. Some of the greatest underground events of the 1990's took place in this all but abandoned space, and was the source of the empty spacial sounds of this track.
@tb303b I was under the impression he was locked out of the U.S. due to an encounter with border patrol:
They took offence to him and his brother in their car full of electronics, and their shaven heads. Hawtin says he was less than candid about who they were, where they were going, and he was thus restricted from entering the U.S. for a while. True or false?
Actually, I said what had been the going rumor in the Detroit scene at the time. What you say does sound far more plausible-but it may also be that they were being so to avoid having to show a work visa ect...customs has always sucked-more so now than back then. At least back then you could just show a drivers license and say you were just visiting a local drinking hole to get by. I had friends kicked back from going to Windsor years ago too.
@tb303b Ah, when you put it in the context of a work Visa...it makes more sense now. I'm not in the U.S. or Canada, so that didn't occur to me. Yeah, i think Hawtin said something along the lines of what i described in a documentary.

This got to be his prime. Not now whatever he is doing. He seems to have lost a chunk of his plot. His direction was groundbreaking back then and no longer case today. Irony, the vintage 303 beats whatever he can pull from the most advance apple machines.
This is beyond awesome, the first to release the sounds of a 303 on vinyl were Chris and Cosey of Throbbing Gristle fame on the (Elemental 7) soundtrack in 1983.It's a intriguing listen, dark and disturbing in parts, almost totally unknown, with the first 'acid house' track 'Dancing ghosts'.
Yeah, it's really cool when people explore the true potential of simple machinery to the max. Limitations can be very inspiring for sure. Just discovered Plastikman and I've never thought of the 303 as anything else than a bass and acid machine, but that just proves to show that you easily overlook possibilities because of your narrow-mindedness. Think I'm gonna play around in Rebirth now :)....
People often mistake the 303 to be an all-acid bassline machine, but it's capable of making some really cool, mesmerizing high pitched lead lines and arpeggios
@sampleandhold Exacly mate...Plastikman explored it maximaly...His complete discography is based on 303,and on his latest albums you can't evan recognise 303...This is definetly my favorite 303 work... )))

Think I'm gonna play around in Rebirth now :)....
sampleandhold 1 year ago 2
People often mistake the 303 to be an all-acid bassline machine, but it's capable of making some really cool, mesmerizing high pitched lead lines and arpeggios
sampleandhold 1 year ago 16
@sampleandhold Exacly mate...Plastikman explored it maximaly...His complete discography is based on 303,and on his latest albums you can't evan recognise 303...This is definetly my favorite 303 work... )))
Urban303Resistance 1 year ago
@sampleandhold Here he's using the 303 for the bassline but the SH101 for the melody.....
