This is one of my favorite movies. I do NOT approve of affairs, but this movie is also about loyalty as well. Both George & Doris love each other AND their spouses - yet have a sacred relationship unto themselves, almost as if they're the REAL married couple. They share childbirth (the year she shows up pregnant is hilarious!) and grief, and it's clear that it's not merely sex. From their description of their spouses, you get the sense that it's George & Doris who are meant to be together.

Okay, I am a person who is very much against cheating and affairs- no excuses or exceptions. But I LOVE this movie. I think it's because the couple who's having the affair actually seem like the married couple. I guess the fact that you never see their mates helps. And also, I just love both these actors!
