  • You ROCK!! One of my favorite Rush songs. Thanks, you nailed it!

  • A W E S O M E !!

  • One of my favorite Rush songs. Love the R30 version.

Dude - you nailed this and the guy who likes 4:03 - 4:17 is dead on.

You need to do Animate and Earthshine.

Think about doing the R30 overture too.

  • @jwdarn Thanks! I have done both songs but Earthshine is blocked by YT. :(

  • 3 People are jealous that they can't come close to touching this song on the drums. You sir nailed it better then anyone else I've seen on this. Huge Rush fan, have worked their shows in So. Cal, and have everything they've put out. You are about as good as their gonna get. Yeah so your not Neil, but I'd take you any day for a Tribute band man. You get my vote. Love the vids, keep it up man!

  • Astrotama-we are honoured. I played in a Rush tribute band 'SuperNova' back in 89-95. We played all over Southern Ontario. watching you brings me back, remembering the high of playing, the pride we had in one anothers musicianship. It was because Neil, Geddy and Alex are such monster musicians, and to here them now they think they're at their peak only now. I know my peak has come and gone, hope yours hasn't. Thank you for giving an old time RUSH boy the feel of playing again. God Bless us all

  • Amazing playing. I just found your videos today looking for drumming tips. I love Rush, Neal, etc...and now I'm a fan of you as well. Simply amazing (on all your playing). Wow.

  • I just wanna get off work, come home and do what you do. You play a mean Peart!

  • F*UCKING AWESOME JOB!!!!! one of the best covers ive seen by far...keep it up man. great vid

  • very nice

  • I'm fairly new to drums and I've been using this song to help me learn. Seeing you nail all those parts is an inspiration! It's funny, there are so many specific moments in the song that have been trouble spots for me( 2:25, 3:58, etc) getting to see them all definitely helps.

  • AWESOME MAN... YOU RULES ON DRUMS... YOU GET OUT OF MY MIND ...

  • BRAVO!!!!

  • Okay, I've watched a few of your videos saying to myself....this is the last one, I've got work to do but no, I end up watching more and more of them. Great Job! If Neil ever gets sick on tour I believe you could fill in for him.

  • damn, that was awesome!

  • Fast forward to Minute 3.12 and minute 4.00. .. Those beats are insane.. great job!

  • Viva Astro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellent

  • gOOD MAN, THANKS.

  • This is one of the best songs Rush ever made, and you're drum cover is awesome, man. Keep soaking up the cathode rays!

  • god dam you FUCKING NAILED IT TO A TEE! 0_O

  • I'd love to see Witch Hunt again in your new format....very nice work my friend!!!!

  • I just stumbled on this video while searching for a version by Rush. Very nicely done, man. I grew up idolizing Neil Peart and P/G came out the year I took up the drums seriously. This song just made a big impression on me and the guitar solo elicits the goosebumps and tears of emotion now that it did 25 years ago. It's amazing to read that others have had the same reaction; I always figured it was just me!

Anyway, great job and keep it up!

  • wow you worked hard to do it i'll let Neil know he' s got to see this thanks

  • I used to play all of Rush's congs back in the mid 90's...I just can't get into it anymore. It was good to see this...it brought back memories of my days back in the "world."

  • I don't mean to curse at you or be disrepectful or anything, Bro, but you are one BAD muthafuckin' DRUMMER!!! GET to fuck outta here!! You are truly amazing!!!!

  • You know, I have posted at least 5 comments before months back, and I am going to do it again because you deserve it. I have to tell you, I am one of the biggest RUSH fans out there, and to see you do this gives me chills. You are incredible, I wish that Neil Peart could see this if he has not already. You know some stuff I see on here, I think to myself-ehh, that was good, but never posted a comment-you on the otherhand, I have posted at least 6 now, job well done, I am totally impressed.

  • Well, thanks for these nice words! All I'm trying to do here is to pay tribute to my drumming hero, so he is really the one who should take a bow. ;) But I'm glad that people appreciate these videos.

  • great drumming my man!

  • Totally agree on the solo. Brings tears to my eyes.... Lifeson is so damn melodic....

  • 4:03-4:17. Best moment in rock history!!

  • Hehe. I indeed love that part. It's just too bad that Neil does not played it like the album anymore. Oh well. He's earned the right to do whatever he wants to... ;)

  • I am HUGE fan of yours. I've been playing for about 9 years and love the songs "subdivisions". I can play it rather well, except Neil's cross-sticking ghost snares pattern on the hi-hats. Is it possible to make a "How-to" instructional video on it? Thank you

  • Great job dude. I'm going to start playing this song with a coverband. I learned a lot from your video. Right in the pocket man!

  • fuckin awesome playing man

  • fuckin awesome playing man

  • Im going out to the garage to practice.

  • This guy is fucking awesome. I can't believe how tight his playing is. I thought I was a fan and a drummer but I really suck compared to this dude.

  • Awsome! I love 80's Rush, especially this song and GUP. Nice set, better drumming! I cant wait to progress to that stature...

  • it's my favorite solo too:P

    and Limelight second one :P

Between The Wheels and Limelight live .. amazing!

  • You rock. It was with pleasure to listen and see.

  • Good stuff fella. A top song and you've got the drums bang on! Wouldn't mind playing this tune with ya, but need a brandy before singing it!

  • toujours aussi bon. J'adore j'ai toujours ce petit frisson au moment d'attaquer le refrain à 1'30 je ferme les yeux je souris et j'ai envie de pleurer bravo

  • My favorite song from Grace Under Pressure and you nailed it. Thanks for the vids, we all appreciate your talent and effort!

  • ...oh yeah ...the part just before the solo....wow...how can you do that.....lol

  • my man that was sweet...one of my fav. tunes and you nailed it...wow...you got some talent...if you just watched the hands you'd think it was the man....outstanding

  • a worthy apprenntice for sure well done man!

  • Incredible!!! Well done!

  • Bravo, my friend. Bravo. Now let's channel that into something original. Ultimately, wouldn't you want to channel that into your own band? And if not, WHY NOT?! Guitar players are a dime a dozen, and anyone with a hint of musicianship can learn the bass, (not like Geddy), but really..... Man, do yourself a favor, and get out there. You are an amazing drummer, just by apeing Neil Peart, I can say that. I tried to when I was young. But there are others... and you have thoughts...

    Do it man.

  • Excellent work man, and I must say a very nice sounding kit.. keep up the great drumming!

    Cheers

  • Hahaha, I love humbleness. "Its not perfect by any means". Hmm, I think it is man. Awesome Job 5 stars here :)

  • perfecto, sick song

  • 4:00-4:17, Awesome.

  • no its 0:00-5:44

  • Yeah dude, I had to post another one, this stuff is so tight, you are right on and play with power and precision. Once again, very very impressed. I have every album by R U S H. OUT F*CKING STANDING

  • Thank you! In fact, this video is my favorite one of all the ones I put here so far! I love that song and the day I made the video, I was just having a blast of the drums.

  • Dude, I liked this so much, it's in my favorite places so I can check out from time to time. I wish I knew how to play drums. This is one of my all time favorites by them, I can't beleive what an incredible job you did on this, outstanding. I hope you are in band my friend, you are one hell of a drummer!

  • Right on! That's one of my fav's to watch them play live. You nailed it!

  • impressive.

  • at 4;18 is my fav part of that song..that was great seein it done-right.

  • Sweet!

  • Wow... just wow....

I got the goosebump and teary eye by watching your clip...

Awesome... nothing else to say man

  • once again astro youve wowed us all...great job bro!

  • wow tht is da closest drumset tht i have ever seen tht looked exactly like neil pearts drum kit nice job dude

  • HELL YEAH, GREAT JOB! This is one of my favorites. And you play it almost perfect! Your hi-hat is awesome! Shit, most drummers don't even seem to notice that there's a pedal on it! Keep it up!

  • how much did the kit set you back in finacial terms?

  • birch and bubinga? cause if so, how do you like em cause i'm getting a kit identical just in antique sunburst to look like mike wengrens kit, except he has a pearl

  • No, 100% birch. The B/B did not exist when I got that kit. I tried a few B/B in stores since then and really liked them. Their lows are better than the birch although for me, the attack of the birch shells is ideal for the kind of music I play. I've been playing Tama for almost 20 years... I love their stuff!

  • what kit is that? tama starclassic maple?

  • Nope, Starclassic Performer, with birch shells.

  • Let me tell you something...you play this better than Neil does today. Why? How? You play it correctly...that is why. You not only play it at the correct pace (Rush has slowed it down wayyyy too slow), you play the china during the chorus where Neil destroys the urgency of the moment now by playing it with a closed hi-hat. I prefer watching someone play it who appreciates the exact way it was originally recorded.

  • Umm... He's a little older now dude, it's a known biological fact the body's metabolism slows with age. point is, neil did it. did it first. recorded it.played it on countless tours. so chill...BUT Astrotama! You did it perfectly! Killer kit too!

  • I think Neil has learned the right to play the songs he has created as he pleases... For him, it's a lot about the details and if adding or removing things makes him happier with a song, who are we to complain? I'm just happy he is still going strong after all these years...

  • Great focus..!!One of my favorite songs by Rush. You became the song.;-)

  • Can you slow it a bit... I can hardly see your arms move :o) lol

    Great job !

  • Hehe, blame Neil.... thanks!

  • i agree, i play guitar and the solo in this one is big on emotion, it fits the song perfectly :) alex is seriously under rated. top job on the drums aswell, Five stars

  • nice comment, to my taste one if not the best guitar solo from Alex. Amazing emotion and feeling. Glad others notice this.

  • Excellent job man!! You did a great job on this song. Awesome tama kit. What color is that kit? dark green?

  • Thanks! No, it's indigo blue. Unfortunately, now discontinued by Tama (go figure)...

  • Every time i listen and watch your videos I cannot believe how amazing your druming is for all these songs. Once again, Incredible!!

  • Thank you!

  • you are getting better like wine

    chilean fans

  • Sir,once again you have done an outstanding job with a Rush tune. Thanks for the enjoyment. They are coming to OKC on May 26, 29th row on the floor baby....can't wait. How about Roll the Bones???

  • Nice playing there man.. Rock on!!

  • It´s amazing how RUSH has this effect on people: Make them seek perfection and develop the love for great music like no other band can do. Congratulations man you rock!

  • once again.....AMAZING!!! you are terrific!

  • Hats off sir, this is really mint and fine work of yours.

May I ask for a video of you playing Alien Shore ?

    Regards

  • Thank you! Alien Shore is a tough one but I'll put it on the list... ;)

  • Awesome job! I think you should do 'The Body Electric'

  • Thanks! It's funny that you ask because after I did BTW, I just played The Body Electric to see if I remembered it. So maybe... ;)

  • Wow, just WOW!!!! That was just plain awesome, man! My favorite from Grace Under Pressure, and you nailed it to a T.

That was your best effort yet, man. Keep 'em coming!!

(Can't wait until the guys get to Indy on 6/25. Hope they play this one again!!)

  • Thanks! I just got tickets for the Vancouver show this morning!! Woohoo!

  • Can't Wait, July 2nd Pittsburgh. I love this song live. And as always, you're on the money. I'd really love to hear you hit "The Camera Eye". One of my favorites that they never play live.

  • once again ya nailed it. would be nice to see Driven or Role The Bones. keep them comming would love to see more

  • nice one, face.....

    :-)

  • DEAD ON! REALLY enjoy this song, and you play is GREAT!

    I guess it's my turn to request a song;

How about "The Weapon", with the left hand doing the hi-hat lead and the right hand hitting the snare. (as Neil plays it)

  • Thanks! I like The Weapon. It's one song I would LOVE to see them play again. It would be extraordinary. I used to practice it quite a bit, even with the right hand stock tossing... ;) Be patient, it might get here some day... ;)

  • Awesome!!!

  • Excelent, maybe the best song of GUP. Please play best I can :-)
