3 People are jealous that they can't come close to touching this song on the drums. You sir nailed it better then anyone else I've seen on this. Huge Rush fan, have worked their shows in So. Cal, and have everything they've put out. You are about as good as their gonna get. Yeah so your not Neil, but I'd take you any day for a Tribute band man. You get my vote. Love the vids, keep it up man!
Astrotama-we are honoured. I played in a Rush tribute band 'SuperNova' back in 89-95. We played all over Southern Ontario. watching you brings me back, remembering the high of playing, the pride we had in one anothers musicianship. It was because Neil, Geddy and Alex are such monster musicians, and to here them now they think they're at their peak only now. I know my peak has come and gone, hope yours hasn't. Thank you for giving an old time RUSH boy the feel of playing again. God Bless us all
Amazing playing. I just found your videos today looking for drumming tips. I love Rush, Neal, etc...and now I'm a fan of you as well. Simply amazing (on all your playing). Wow.
I'm fairly new to drums and I've been using this song to help me learn. Seeing you nail all those parts is an inspiration! It's funny, there are so many specific moments in the song that have been trouble spots for me( 2:25, 3:58, etc) getting to see them all definitely helps.
Okay, I've watched a few of your videos saying to myself....this is the last one, I've got work to do but no, I end up watching more and more of them. Great Job! If Neil ever gets sick on tour I believe you could fill in for him.
I just stumbled on this video while searching for a version by Rush. Very nicely done, man. I grew up idolizing Neil Peart and P/G came out the year I took up the drums seriously. This song just made a big impression on me and the guitar solo elicits the goosebumps and tears of emotion now that it did 25 years ago. It's amazing to read that others have had the same reaction; I always figured it was just me!
I used to play all of Rush's congs back in the mid 90's...I just can't get into it anymore. It was good to see this...it brought back memories of my days back in the "world."
I don't mean to curse at you or be disrepectful or anything, Bro, but you are one BAD muthafuckin' DRUMMER!!! GET to fuck outta here!! You are truly amazing!!!!
You know, I have posted at least 5 comments before months back, and I am going to do it again because you deserve it. I have to tell you, I am one of the biggest RUSH fans out there, and to see you do this gives me chills. You are incredible, I wish that Neil Peart could see this if he has not already. You know some stuff I see on here, I think to myself-ehh, that was good, but never posted a comment-you on the otherhand, I have posted at least 6 now, job well done, I am totally impressed.
Well, thanks for these nice words! All I'm trying to do here is to pay tribute to my drumming hero, so he is really the one who should take a bow. ;) But I'm glad that people appreciate these videos.
Hehe. I indeed love that part. It's just too bad that Neil does not played it like the album anymore. Oh well. He's earned the right to do whatever he wants to... ;)
I am HUGE fan of yours. I've been playing for about 9 years and love the songs "subdivisions". I can play it rather well, except Neil's cross-sticking ghost snares pattern on the hi-hats. Is it possible to make a "How-to" instructional video on it? Thank you
toujours aussi bon. J'adore j'ai toujours ce petit frisson au moment d'attaquer le refrain à 1'30 je ferme les yeux je souris et j'ai envie de pleurer bravo
my man that was sweet...one of my fav. tunes and you nailed it...wow...you got some talent...if you just watched the hands you'd think it was the man....outstanding
Bravo, my friend. Bravo. Now let's channel that into something original. Ultimately, wouldn't you want to channel that into your own band? And if not, WHY NOT?! Guitar players are a dime a dozen, and anyone with a hint of musicianship can learn the bass, (not like Geddy), but really..... Man, do yourself a favor, and get out there. You are an amazing drummer, just by apeing Neil Peart, I can say that. I tried to when I was young. But there are others... and you have thoughts...
Yeah dude, I had to post another one, this stuff is so tight, you are right on and play with power and precision. Once again, very very impressed. I have every album by R U S H. OUT F*CKING STANDING
Thank you! In fact, this video is my favorite one of all the ones I put here so far! I love that song and the day I made the video, I was just having a blast of the drums.
Dude, I liked this so much, it's in my favorite places so I can check out from time to time. I wish I knew how to play drums. This is one of my all time favorites by them, I can't beleive what an incredible job you did on this, outstanding. I hope you are in band my friend, you are one hell of a drummer!
HELL YEAH, GREAT JOB! This is one of my favorites. And you play it almost perfect! Your hi-hat is awesome! Shit, most drummers don't even seem to notice that there's a pedal on it! Keep it up!
birch and bubinga? cause if so, how do you like em cause i'm getting a kit identical just in antique sunburst to look like mike wengrens kit, except he has a pearl
No, 100% birch. The B/B did not exist when I got that kit. I tried a few B/B in stores since then and really liked them. Their lows are better than the birch although for me, the attack of the birch shells is ideal for the kind of music I play. I've been playing Tama for almost 20 years... I love their stuff!
Let me tell you something...you play this better than Neil does today. Why? How? You play it correctly...that is why. You not only play it at the correct pace (Rush has slowed it down wayyyy too slow), you play the china during the chorus where Neil destroys the urgency of the moment now by playing it with a closed hi-hat. I prefer watching someone play it who appreciates the exact way it was originally recorded.
Umm... He's a little older now dude, it's a known biological fact the body's metabolism slows with age. point is, neil did it. did it first. recorded it.played it on countless tours. so chill...BUT Astrotama! You did it perfectly! Killer kit too!
I think Neil has learned the right to play the songs he has created as he pleases... For him, it's a lot about the details and if adding or removing things makes him happier with a song, who are we to complain? I'm just happy he is still going strong after all these years...
i agree, i play guitar and the solo in this one is big on emotion, it fits the song perfectly :) alex is seriously under rated. top job on the drums aswell, Five stars
Sir,once again you have done an outstanding job with a Rush tune. Thanks for the enjoyment. They are coming to OKC on May 26, 29th row on the floor baby....can't wait. How about Roll the Bones???
It´s amazing how RUSH has this effect on people: Make them seek perfection and develop the love for great music like no other band can do. Congratulations man you rock!

You need to do Animate and Earthshine.
Think about doing the R30 overture too.
