The easiest and cleanest system I've seen is FUDGE. It is all about keeping systems simple, and best of all the price is right... nada. Sadly, nobody seems to use it, probably because it isn't commercialized with all the financial blood sucking for something that is mostly about the imagination.
Dungeons & Dragons is obsolete and the sooner the nerds that over thought the convoluted rule sets realize this, the quicker this suffering franchise can be euthanized.
Rollplaying makes no sense when video games are superior in every aspect. D&D 4e does not facilitate Roleplaying so the whole series of products is moot... unless you're an overweight white guy with social ineptitude.
i real hate the powers thay are just centerd around fighting and killing even the rangers are just attacks with animal names you dont need them to spice up comat just trying to roleplaying the attacks and defence and not just hay i roled a 14 did i hit. the DMG is helpful to a nubie GM but if you have been GMing or playing for more then 6 months you should already know this stuff
Hp is no longer related to damage taken. Its your staying power in battle. It can be damage, it can be how much energy you have and it relates to the resolve you have. The warlord inspires, the second wind gives more energy, and so on. Don't judge until you try it.
I did try it i realy dont like it seems to far remover from any of the old dnd rules but my best friend loves it so i just think its a natter for taste
the this wrong with D&D 4th ed. is that the healing burst is out of control and makes no sence do all the players have a magic bond with the healing god of the realm? Skills have been reduced and i thinks that they are one of the defining points of the character i know you are a fighter and you can kill this but what dose he like and do on the off time i just made a fighter last week useing 3.5 and hes has cooking rank2 and playlute rank2 but the 4.0 is all about killing as fast as you can
true real roleplaying comes from the GM and the players but a game can inhance or dirtact from the roleplaying and 4.0 ditracts in a big way
i realy hate that the fighters are made to take the same feats and powers same gos for the wizards they have a very small spell list to work with and they have all the spells listed and who the spell work is way over powerd for taste Magic missile once per round is way to montyhall and i love to play wizards
If you actually read the books they've taken no role playing out of it. In fact the DMG better supports the non combat encounters better than previous editions. The role playing aspect of the game is still entirely up to the players and DM. As far as the powers and exploits they are just flavor and fancy attacks added into the game (something to break up the basic attack monotony,) and finally i believe you will find after a little open minded play that the healing surges are not that unusual.
I think the new rules bite D&D has become a overpowerd combat game and has lost its sense of realism catering to player and gms with no imagintion that like rollplay not roleplay that healing burst is just one of the new rules that make no sense
Nice review guys. Very professionally put together. While the rule books have their ups and downs and even some funny bits it is good to see people enjoying the game. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed that the virtual table top situation gets sorted out soon.
STFU with your "this is better than that" crap. Play the version you like and have fun. For fuck sake people, It's DnD!!!!!!!!

Great review/overview. I was happy to hear how healing surges work in play.
