I'm sorry, i know that Roky's had his problems or whatever but this performance sucks. Carries none of the original energy of the 13th floor elevators. So sad.
that guy in the back ground dancing is "beatle bob" a super great guy and MC... he rules! also.... he likes to steal thinks too, dont let him sleep at your house.

Threadgill's bar and Roky Erikson with the Explosives, and Powell St. John (with others) This is why Austin is so GREAT on a summer day!! Peace and Love to you all!
@oldschoolrock4evr I don't get you, these folks are loving them? OK so it's not a huge $30 ticket gig, playing for hipsters, but they look like they're having fun, look again.
@raihadjackson Yes I think it is. The only time I've ever seen Beatle Bob is in a Guided By Voices video (I think it was the song "My Kind of Soldier"). That's got to be him. Good spot!
Hey if Roky his self or anyone that knows Roky should happen to read this, I'd like for him to check out a YouTube video of a guy that he should remember. As I understand he is a lost friend of yours Roky. Check it out if you want to get in contact with him I can now help with that, Message me on here (YouTube) about him. Click my user name to understand what I'm talking about.
Wow, this is great! Isn't this from his first "comeback" show? If it is, that's quite a performance considering how far down he got during that decade out of the spotlight.
you might be right about Powel, but he should have brought a harmonica in the right key for the song, or just not play at all, rather than sucking that bad.
That harmonica player is Powell St. John, who basically started the entire Texas psychedelic music scene back in the early sixties, and who wrote 6 songs for the 13th Floor Elevators. Powell is a member of the Texas Music Hall of Fame and is about as far from being a redneck or a drunk as one can imagine. He performed at Roky's invitation, and to quote Roky himself: " I think he is a first-rate harmonica player...His songs are some of my favorites!"
At first glance it sounds funny, but Roky's career is long lasting and consistent - he wrote good things in the 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. as many problems as he's faced, his longevity is impressive.

Amen. Powell tries to make it work. But, if the harp is in the wrong key, it's tough.
