Something about that carriage for some reason makes me think "Ooh, a baby carriage! Look at the cute little machine gun on it!" =P
Just how far are the cartridges ejecting from the mg though? They look like they're flying. Isn't the cartridge ejection on most Soviet made weapons pretty violent?
It must have been a pain to get that pointing where you need it and the thing your sitting on has no elevation so you have to be lying down or break your back in three places to even aim, but neverless a nice simple piece of russian machinery.
the germans/americans made guns that won beauty contests
The russians make guns that win wars
a beautifull gun that is, that lovely SG43. Along with the hundreds of thousands of Maxims still in russian arsenals=you will be glad to have them once your country is invaded again
Is that chambered for 7.62x54R? I am guessing that round being that it is a Russian machine gun. They seem to have been using that round for about forever now with no signs of stopping.
@Jesses001 Yes, that caliber entered service in 1891 and is still in use. It's one one my favorite calibers and has proven itself in battles and wars.
@MegaGevehr Child's? Son-Of-Satan, maybe...definately not a gun to be taken lightly. You guys probably had 'em fired at you in 'The Sand Box'.Further to you Marine maxim - 'If it can't fight me/feed me/or fuck me - it ain't worthy of my attention.
@kiwitedferny found several chinese knock offs in afghanistan no russian ones though, they all seemed to be shooting great though some had pretty bad accuracy because the rifleing was damn near shot out of some of them.
Those Top 10 shows on Discovery are absolute crap. They have to cater to the lowest common denominator, and that means putting in the guns people expect to see.
Besides, the "Hitler-Channel" and the "Discover-Sharks-Channel" just don't cover stuff in depth, mainly because it takes more than 45 minutes of airtime to cover one gun, let alone the "top 10".
@norwegianwiking well i agree with you but i the sg-43 is more of a medium machinegun than an gpmg. the best ones were those who had a butstock and could be used both as a light and medium mg. the sg-43 is not so perfect in manuver warfare
I love your enthusiasm, Ted. I moved to the States (Tennessee) from the UK five years ago - never fired a gun in my life and now I own several. I count my American friends as the finest, most responsible shooters one could encounter.

Side ejection? Most MGs eject casings out the bottom, don't they?
