  • I wouldnt exactly say he outshined them all including the Carter Family...... Peer was not that impressed and Jimmies wife threw a fit that he didnt do T for T. He however said that the CF didnt realize "how good they were." JR first song he didnt even yodel. The record didnt sell and JR went to NY on his own money to do T4T. However JR and wife were the only ones that actually knew he would be a star..

  • in late july and early august 1927,ralph peer recorded 19 differnt artist ln bristol tenn ,jimmie out shined them all ,even the carter family of which i am very fond of.

he died 76 years ago on this may the 26th

  • hanks You may be right about those other singers but Jimmie Rodgers was the first big nation wide super star that sold millions of records.

    Crash Norm

  • I think this is good music. I don't agree with calling Jimmie Rodgers the man who started it all. For instance, before Rodgers made his first record, a combined 275 records had already been made by Riley Puckett, Ernest Stoneman, Uncle Dave Macon, Fiddlin' John Carson, Charlie Bowman, Robert Gardner, and Charlie Poole, all of whom were older than Rodgers. Let's remember them when we remember where country music came from too.
