  • Is there by any chance... Cannabis seeds in a rod?

  • This is the most beautiful and meaningful thing ever created by human beings

  • This is the kind of shit aliens will find after human extinction and wonder "What the fuck?"

  • VERY COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • cool

  • well done UK... very amazing..... i am mexican and a feel very anger because after that i see Spain, UK, Netherlands Pavillions ¡¡great!!! and then i se mexican pavillion jajajajajaj im very sad , mexican pavillion is a joke sorry but is the truth....

  • Genius. Truly innovative, unique looking. My suggestion to practical use of it is as headquaters of implanting hair clinic. ;)

  • Has this been installed anywhere after the Expo of 2010? I'd love to visit.

  • another triumph for Heatherwick studios!

  • is this architecture. Im not sure but kind of like the ambiguity... sculpture, art installation and a building. I think its one of the strongest pavillions.

  • Song is Safe Tomorrow by Lali Puna

  • I'm pretty upset that they killed it.

  • Thanks TED :D

  • im watching this because of google's home page

  • song suits it perfectly..... oh bless...... architecture turning to intimate sex

  • What's the name of the song playing in the video please email me the name if you know

  • I cant believe it was dismantled! It should definitely be a permanent structure

  • stupendo , il più bello di tutti

  • Sea urchin anyone?

  • And if a time comes when the seeds need planting, someone's gonna have to cut each one out of the acrylic, if we even have cutting tools due to whatever causes the global wipeout of plants. and it's gonna be a long delicate procedure for each one. and i bet some smaller ones would be destroyed in the process. So it's a poor design imo

  • @Lon3Assassin Are you saying this ironically? You do realize there are labs and nuclear bunkers which currently hold the vast majority of seeds in case of a global wipe out of plants. This is merely a work of art which I believe is pure genius rather than a Walmart for plant life. Whereas many other countries built impressive buildings, the UK built a concept....very impressive. I don't wish to sound rude, but I want you to feel safe in the knowledge that 'seeds' have already been taken care of.

  • so why would 5 people dislike this?

  • I have been to the shanghai expo, the uk one is the best

  • just like the future

  • a good memory for me,aaa~~UK Pavilion~

  • UK pavilion ,,,a good memory for me~

  • big big energy waste

  • @3dscouts What do you mean?

  • that was impresive and very beautiful

  • absolutely stunning...

  • with the way they are modifing our food it would be dumb to not store origonal seeds.

  • i went to the expo with my mum and dad. Compared to all the other pavillions this one was the most boringest one but most artistic design... All it was is seeds and that was it really

  • @coziherebrap Was that not the point? Conservation is simple, and easy.

  • @coziherebrap 'the most boringest'? Nuff sed.

  • @spoofoid Woops. Sorry for the non-existent word.... "boringest".

  • I said "Shit!"

  • amazing design!

im not from the UK but I love this country and the people there the most, after my home country of course :p Saudi Arabia.

might not be relevant but just wanted to express how i feel :p

  • Breathtaking!!!!!!

  • wow!!! they should have transported that to london after the expo

  • WOW ......gooooooood

  • Does it have changing lights shine though the acrylic?

Seems like a waste? but i guess it's acrylic is 100% recyclable. still the money could of gone elsewhere, like more trees -_-

  • Nice UK Pavilion!

  • Oh, I guess one of the highlights is you could see the UK flag from any angle :S

  • Luckily I didnt have to queue for this one (VIP entrance cuz we're from UK :S) - not worth queuing but it was great talking to the London bloke who spoke really good chinese!

  • it was so busy!!!!!!

  • but the pavilion outside have this spectacular desgin but after waiting for aournd 5 hours in 39.7 degrees with 74 precent humidity, the pavilion inside just doesn't realli make up for it espeacilly the low aircon =( but amazin pavilion still

  • The music isn't my special favorite....still a very cool vid

  • It is amazing, I did not want to leave the pavilion.

  • Wow, it reminds me of the Peak District's Blue John Caverns somehow. Increíble.

  • WOW

  • anyone seen it in person? its ok for 30 seconds but like the rest of the expo ... a let down!

  • This is great, i love how organic this structure is... almost alive!

  • its things like these that prove to the universe that we deserve to survive as a species....

  • nature? it's all acrylic.., what is the point of the natural things? Better to have some electric outlets at the ends.

  • i'm in AWE

  • wow. reminds me of something from an rpg, love it

  • That is fantastic. I just read about it in a magazine and I thought it was CGI cause I never thought anything like that could possibly be real .Looks great.

  • Awesome. Sometimes it doesnt even look real when you see the whole structure. Almost looks super imposed...

  • Unique life form Architecture!!

  • semplicemente meraviglioso... peccato solo la soluzione dell'ingresso. bellissimi anche i padiglioni di danimarca korea e spagna. Il padilione italiano purtroppo una mega ciofeca. peccato occasione persa.

  • I've never seen anything like this! It's worth every second of time dedicated, every penny spent, just to see something like this standing. That's art. Those who complain should try to live in windowless gray boxes. Talking about "usefulness", please, read a book about art and learn about meaning and purpose.

  • Music = Lali Puna / Safe tomorrow

  • Great Song! :)

  • must be a bitch to clean

  • @walooo Especially after the sand storm.........

  • @walooo

agree, hahhaha. however, it is aweason! The best sight to look at it is from the top of Netherlands national pavilion.

  • WOW great, amazing...O_o

  • Anyone who thinks the objective of this piece is to be anything but surreal and whimsical while promoting a seed bank have lost there mind. Since when is that bad? It's a WORLDS FAIR not an RFP. RELAX!

And if you think its ugly, to each their own...every ones a critic.

  • @stivan81 I believe that this is "Safe Tomorrow" by Lali Puna, from the album "Our Inventions".

  • any idea what the song is? thanks

  • I consider the UK pavilion is absolutely the-state-of-art. Genius !!!

  • @Rocklobsterport

Not really, it is in fact very simple. I like it, but state-of-the-art it isn't. It is a wooden box pierced by plastic rods. Hardly the pinnacle of design.

  • @josepheath design is the combination of mundane materials to give people something out of the ordinary to experience, therefore enhancing their everyday experience. so it would, in fact, appear to be the pinnacle of design.

  • @umbrellatools I guess you don't understand art and architecture then.. This is a very smart and unique design + a great message

  • "The UK pavilion hopes to raise awareness for the Millennium Seed Bank Project,"

A good cause, but they could have spent that money on international advertising campaigns which would be extremely more effective...

  • @ColtonBrook

China expects aroung 70 to 100 million visitors. If one percent gets the message and act as multiplicators, it might be a good investment. Britain was going to have a pavillion anyhow, so: why not this one? I doubt they cut the funding for the MSB because of that. Perhaps, you should e-mail them and ask. And, by the way: you might adopt a seed.

    Keep growing.

  • @botanisch yea i'm not saying i don't appreciate it, or think they shouldn't have built it to raise awareness. Im sure it will be effective, not to mention how beautiful the architecture is, but it just seems like a really aggressive, multi-national ad campaign would fulfill their mission statement a bit quicker (admittedly though, only in the short run).

Youuuuuuu have a good point though. Thanks :D

    plop...i grew a bit

  • Awesome!!!

  • Looks completely amazing. Wish I could see it.

  • @umbrellatools kinda agree there. never thought art would be that expensive
