  • Why do live steam groups have such narrow layouts? Aren't you guys afraid of any derailments causing fatal falls to the ground?

  • @cromboldWVU @cromboldWVU These are temporary, traveling layouts that are kept small for easy setup, storage and moving purposes. In all the years I have been involved with this hobby, I've only seen one loco leave the layout and that was because he was running too fast, didn't check the track ahead and encountered a switch set wrong. Live steamers don't usually run at Lionel speeds and try to keep the speed to scale.

  • what state is cabin fever in?

  • Cabin Fever is in York Pennsylvania every January. It is on line.

  • @trainav8r oh, I would go, except that I live in colorado and that is like 2000 miles away. Nice post!

  • Beautiful engine! I just got about a month ago a 0-6-0 switch engine from Accucraft. I'm very pleased with it! However it seems to throw out alot of water when clearing the cylinders starting out. I've tried different water levels in the boiler and nothing changes this. It dont bother me really, but I was wondering if all Accucrafts do this.

  • @DrFrankensteam The larger locomotives have cylinder drain cocks that can be opened until the cylinders get hot and all the water in the steam lines is gone. All small live steam locos do this as do the real ones. Just make sure that after you fill your boiler, you extract some water to leave room for steam. This will reduce but not eliminate the spitting.

  • no way!

    sweetness... haha
