  • It makes you thankful that people choose to do these things so that we can continue the way of life we live here in America.

  • I loved it! This is one of the great reasons to make a movie to capture history!

  • This is a great human interest story and the editors and producers stayed true to the theme and didn't turn it into a fluff piece. I respect that view, greatly! God Bless to our sevice men and woman of the past, present and future!!

  • I have the utmost respect for you Jud. You're an American hero!

    6-Line

  • He is amazing. I feel blessed to know him.

  • We just got an Emmy nomination for this video! Thank you once again Judson Hemperley for your wonderful stories!

  • This is really interesting. My great great Grandfather served in the Red Army and fought in Berlin. He was assigned to clear out the underground bunkers in the Reichstag. I am not exactly sure what happened but he got these sharp pieces embeded in his abdomen. He had to get shots from the doctor to take the pain away. Then he died 3 years after World War II.

  • Thank you for sharing the story! Do you have any pictures?

  • Thank you for this interview. The bravery of this whole generation is almost unbelievable. From today's point of view you can only imagine what they endured. As a medic you were confronted with a lot of stuff you won't forget in you're whole life. I think it's hard to stay sane after an experience like that. I don't know if a lot of soldiers committed suicide after the war, as you earlier mentioned, but I know from my own family a lot were heavily drinking because of these events in the past.

  • My granddads, one died before I was born, never talked about it at all. Therefore it's even more important to hear the stories of those 'ordinary people' first hand, and not historians and top brass.

So thank you for the courage to do so.

  • I mean to talk about it.

Sometimes medics in the military are looked down a bit, because they are not fighting. I think this is a statement to clearify that this job needs really brave men, too, especially in those days, where medic service wasn't as sophisticated as it is today.

I got drafted and served as a medic in Germany a couple of years ago. Living in peace, you only get a glimpse of what this is all about. and I have no idea how I would have behaved in times like these.

  • All I know is that it might help to make people understand that war must be avoided at all costs. A lot of people did heroic things in war, but war in itself is far from being something glorious or heroic. It's rather the worst thing that can happen to you.

  • Thank you for your posts! That's what I learned from all this. These people made an incredible sacrifice that changed their lives forever. They did amazing things and have suffered the rest of their lives as a result. That's why we need to honor these people and care for them because they gave up everything to serve.

  • anyone who is interested in WWII, i very highly suggest that they read Flags of our Fathers. Matter of fact, i think everyone in America should be required to read it because i dont think people now a days know what the soldiers truely went through. (protagonist is a medic as well)

  • I will read it. Thanks! I think these stories are important for people to hear and it really helps the veterans to talk about their experiences too.

  • its a very long book but is very interesting. if you ever have a long car ride i suggest you get it on tape so you can listen to it while driving

  • Cool... what is the author on it?

  • James Bradley, his father is the medic in the book

  • Thanks... I'll see if it is available at Amazon

  • A true Hero!

  • He is... thank you for watching

  • anyone who pokes any kind of fun at this subject

needs their ass kicked. the holocaust was the worst thing in the history of the world.

  • I get really upset when people make fun of it or say it didn't happen. It is one of the darkest times in World History. I agree.

  • My grandfather was a medic in ww2,he passed away 4 years ago

  • Keep his memory alive as a way to thank him for his service. Do you have pictures?

  • God bless your grandfather I hope he is resting in peace.

  • One of those medics saved my fathers life during WWII. Without them I wouldn't have had my dad.

War was hell for them, but bless them for their service.

  • They went through so much and saved so many.

  • World war is hell!. I have experienced the aftermath.

  • Do you live in Europe where some of the battles occurred?

  • god..i can't imagine myself being a medic on a war.. you can see the guts and limbs of your comrade. and you're gonna save them? shit that's scary.. this guy is brave.

  • It is amazong what he went through. Many of his fellow medics committed suicide after coming home after the war. It traumatized many of them beyond repair.

  • seriously? holy shit.

  • Check out our PTSD videos. The veterans talk about how they've lost friends and family to suicide... both the mental and physical pain gets to be too much for some veterans.

  • I have seen Saving Private Ryan... it's hard to watch actually. I imagine it gave some veterans some PTSD flashbacks.

  • great video, amazing guy

  • Very amazing man... I agree. Where did you get all the great pictures on your youtube page?

  • well for some i looked around the internet for hours, and some are my own

  • Do you think I could use some of the ones that are yours for some of the documentaries we're using?

  • sure

  • Thank you... I'll check out your pictures and let you know which ones we can use.

  • outstanding video. if it were not for people like you many more would have died.

  • Thank you... he is an amazing man with wonderful stories. He made a very important contribution that few people talk about. Usually combat is profiled... I really wanted to profile some different sides to war.

  • thank you for your service Mr. Hemperley!

you deserve to be honored and remembered! may God bless you and mya God bless America!

  • Thanks!

  • God bless u man....men like him are miracle workers.

  • It's amazing.

He saved lives and all the while living with the chaos surrounding him.

    He's an amazing person.

  • if ur country is atked...and u talk about NOT fighting , n how the army sucks....u should be shot on sight!

these men saw hell , n embraced death for their country...so u COWARDS ,,,plz hang urselves

  • wow

  • in my opinion i think that these guys were the most bravest and most toughest out of all the war generations, todays army may be stronger, but world war 2 had the toughest guys in my eyes.

  • this gentleman is more of a man than i will ever even hope to be

God bless our troops; past, present, and future...they are the guardians of my freedom that allow me to even post this message in their honor

  • WWII veterans were the best and from the GREATEST generation e ver. They took it on and did the job and didn't whine afterword.

  • heros??

what kind of hero goes to a kill peple without hinking why??

oh wait was it patriotism?? or democracy may be??

perhaps those heros fought for the chidren that now enjay killing kids in irak??

    funny world

  • This guy didn't kill anyone. He was a medic who saved lives.

  • Kill or be killed, smart arse.

You'd rather they all sat at home and waited for the Nazi's to invade and get killed any way?

You're your fucking brain ,you stupid cunt!

They have several billions of more courage than you could ever have.

    Grow up.

  • im mexican but all this ppl who survive and fight in the second world war are heroes

  • Well done and thank you to all the soldiers who thought in WW1 and WW2, for not making many nation's civilians have to fight the war for the country.

  • I commend that man.

  • a true american heroe... a true hero is the one tht fought hitler SINCE THE BEGGINING of ww2. a true hero is the one tht saved lives during the all war, not only in 2 yearrs or so. Schindler was the true hero, end of history. I aprecciate the service Judson Hemperley, he seems to be a humble man, but the real heroes are the ones tht are dead.

Bye. sorry if my english isnt perfect

  • that was way cool i have never or remember hearing about the war my grampa was in the war both grandparents at the time and they both are still alive to this day. thanks for shareing that was great information.

  • Thats a great man!

  • my deepest recpect to all the elders who serve in the second great war

  • @scottyi88 The germans too.

  • lets not..

please.. a vote for mccain is a vote for war.

  • From one medic to another... thankyou.. I too know what it is like to save a life or two..

  • Thank you for your service as well litlebk

  • Thank you Judson. You are a true american hero.

  • hero !!!

  • Hi, Actually, Bush has been very worried about our safety. So much so, he risks public sentiment to keep the safety. Saddahm killed hundreds of thousands of his own people, and he had wpm, probably hid them with his nasty neighbors. He actually stated he would reget them, and more. He was a threat to all of thenations around him. Oil, sure they have it, we buy it, but, we have not had any advantages of the oil. But we freed a nation. If they keep it together. We have our own resources-!

  • People like you are absolute heroes. Thank you so much.

  • This put my petty issues in perspective. Great Video. Great story, good man.

  • This man needs a hug. He's done some great things for others in his life.

  • He needs a thank you more than anything else.

  • amazing

  • This is so much better than reading about a war, hearing it from those that were there adds a personal touch.

While words in a book can express emotion, they can never truly capture it because everyone interprets differently.

While war is indeed hell, Mr.Hemperley proves that humanity's goodness can still shine through!

  • God bless his good-heart :)

  • GODBLESS!

  • This man is a true America hero! God bless him and all WW2 vets. And Geckko634, i wish we could stop wars too but its not going to happen. Man will always have conflicts, there is no way that there will be no wars. Peace does not exist if man has sinful hearts. But thank God for America and all the men who took the call so that others could experience the freedoms we love so much. War is never good, but it is at times necessary. I hope one day to be like this brave man and take the call.

  • I applaud this man for saving so many lives in WWII and i hope that we could all just stop war in all because it,and global warming, is destroying the human race

  • This is absolutely awesome. It not only allows us that were too young to know to hear the story 1st hand as it happened, it also preserves them for his children n grandchildren. Keep all the videos you can, its all I have left of my Mother and I treasure every second of every one of them. Thank You for sharing and God Bless.

  • Do you mean as in reincarnation?

  • God Bless you Judson Hemperley ! Pro Patria doughboy

  • Do you know his unit and division in WWII?

  • Did you ever happen to meet my late great-uncle? His name was Dr. Lawrence Pratt. He was a thoracic mobile surgeon in WWII, the Korean War and in Vietnam. In WWII, he was on the beach at Normandy, as well as the Battle of the Bulge. He lived to be 103 years old, dying in 2005. He was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.

  • probably a 10 years old...

  • You are the only retard I see - mentally challenged is more like it. Many factors are at play here, and you cannot blame one President on them. Our soldiers have helped many people worldwide. I am proud of them, and our nations stand on humanitarian and terror issues.

  • Sparky,

"retard"?? - Thanks! I feel like crying now... NOT!!

    Yes,manyfactorsareatplayhere.

    Yes,wecannotblame1Pres(Ididn't).

    Yes,oursoldiers(Iwasone)havehelpedmany.

    Yes,I'mproudofthem&ourstandonhumanitarianaidandterror.

    So what's UR point?

We have a rich&proud history in the US (humanitarian, fight for freedom, fight against terror = global leader)

What I said is that our government (NotspecificallyGWB) has corruption too. That is why Congress hasa lower aproval rating than the Pres

  • I was answering Idhimaru91 not you. Must have gone to the wrong reply spot????

  • DOUGHPPE!! Sorry bud!

    Best regards...

  • hey check out my recent god and country festival. many patriotic vids. too many vids to explain but new ones are patriotic.

  • save lives in world war III and elect obama!

  • I can't believe the comments on here.

"That Hitlers plans may be accomplished one day..."

    "Hitler should have won..."

??? Who are these people??? You are insane!

God Bless our American troops Then and Now!! The system (all governments) are corrupt and need to be replaced, but we (stupid people who HAVE freedom) keep electing more of the same. Our choices this coming fall are both already bought and paid for. Hitler was not a savior unless you were under his belt. That's not freedom.

  • HERO.

  • Fireme:

You're not alone. I too watched and felt the video. A shame nearly all the commentors want to talk about themselves.

This man highlighted his whole experience of the war with the story of saving one poor child's life. Not Hitler, dday, or the A-bomb. It would appear that humanity once again is taking a back seat to nationalism and hate if these other comments are any indication.

Respect life, love your enemy, and stop disrespecting the Hero's who were actually there.

  • Youre' a jerk.. Lucky for You America came along.. OR you would not have even been born jerk!

  • To bad you are so wrong about that. The reason i am here is because of the ww2 war. Never thougt about the kids that got born under the Hitler jugend. Like the pope!!!!!

    Dumb ass!

  • Hey, It's alright.. the gentleman deserves some compassion, ANYONE in ww II does ! He's still a HERO in my mind's eye !

  • I hope this men will stay alive for a thousands of years, with the health he has nowadays.

Dont die old men, look at the world 20 more years and see what youve created.

  • if u veiw my channel ill show u y god midht eant u to vote obama

  • What an amazing story!

  • ww2 was a lie. whites slaughtered whites all to create a homeland for the jew in israel that our govt. now hedges for in the middle east.

  • (to peaceOff)

    I don't know if WW2 has been a lie.

But one thing is sure : your bullsh*t about fighting just for Israel.

If that was true, then the British, Australians, Neo Zelandeses, Senegalese, Italians, French, Belgians, Norwegians, Finns, etc., all those who died in Europe would have instead died in Middle East.

  • xD lol you guys think PeaceOff is serious or not ?

I think he is serious and that his parents brainwashed him and kept telling him WW2 was a lie until he believed it

  • (to hairyharry112)

If what you say about PeaceOff is right, then that's freaking scary. :-S

  • Are you fucking serious? I hope not..If you are...Then you are FUCKING STUPID!! Did you even live back then?

  • Jesus loves you

  • Isn't it amazing that these men HAVE NOT been recognized until now - usually an election yr! I don't mean to deminish your contributions as my dad was WWII veteran but when the professional politicans wanted to decorate him in a public cermoney- he said NO mail my metals.

  • This project means a lot to Mr. Hemperley. And if an election makes people take notice, that's okay. At least someone took notice. I'm sure your dad was hurting just like my dad. Some veterans have a lot of demons they're dealing with. The best thing we can do is listen and support them. They need family and they need friends and we should do what we can to be there for them and show we care... and if an election year makes that happen, so be it.

  • The ends justify the means? I don't see any honor in perpetuating the 'glory and honor of war' fallacy. I respect Mr. Hemperley but am weary of symbolic tactics to effect political gains.

  • Wrong "effect"

  • You are correct. It should be affect.

  • i dont think were free at all

  • So much respect towards him. Judson Hemperley you and the others that fought in this war will be remembered forever. You ALL are heroes.

  • we owe our free living to the men and women who fought for us...our generations will live to their efforts

    thanks a lot

  • A true hero.

  • very strong and brave man!!!

  • Awesome man.

  • U rarely can see such a nice man! God Bless you!

  • You sir are a true American and my new hero. Much respect. God Bless you!

  • I'd have to disagree. This man is a hero plain a simple. Regardless of where you live or who you are you should bow your head in respect to these brave men and women who do things for the greater good of the world. He's a true hero.

  • I apologize, I totally agree on how you stated that. But he is an American & that's why I said what I said. =)

  • Old guy seems like a good person. I hope he's being well taken care of.

  • You are a true American. Thank you for the sacrafice you made for this nation God gave us. God Bless You.

  • anyone would think with the big media distortion that american soldiers did it all on their own like the current war.they didnt get any help from forign soldiers

  • We were doing a story about a local man we know and admire. I encourage you to do the same with people you know especially your elders. If you know a British or French or a soldier from another nation, help them tell their story. History is best learned from the people who lived it.

  • what? oh that? nahhh.i think all soldiers are politicans sheep.you never get a president or prime minister willing to jump the fence themselves

  • I think if the politicians had to go to the front and see combat, they'd make very different decisions

  • you are a very genores person

  • a bigger pack of toilet roll supplied

  • This is a great commentary from a noble man who served in a necessary war. What a GREAT MAN!!!!!!

    >

Current war in IRAQ is not a just, or necessary war.

    >

Click our ID to see the Iraq war criminals on trial for their war crimes

    >

    FUN WITH WAR CRIMES!

  • It's not the soldiers we should be attacking though. It's the politicians. These soldiers were asked to make a sacrifice and we should honor them. Attack the politicians who sent them to war. Attack the businesses who profit from the war. But let's leave the soldiers alone. I don't want to see another generation of veterans torn apart like Vietnam.

  • This generation is definately more supportive of the soldiers.

  • Here here That is my true belife go after the dicks Some of us chose and support the troops that are just doing there job and regardless of what they are fighting for its still horrors of the likes we cant even imagine personally I do not support the war at all but i back my troops 100% even going as far to buy their meals

  • God Bless Men Like Him!! Now THAT'S an American.

  • I think you may have missed the point.

  • dbocaz -- he didn't miss the point -- he's being satirical -- just like us...

  • Thank you.

  • ouch

  • Poppy your such a hero, mine especially

  • I will tell him and let you know if he gets a chance to respond. Thanks for watching!

  • tell mr hemperley i said hello also could you tell him i thank him for saving peoples lives fighting for his country and our freedom , if he responds to yuo about my comment could you tell me what he said thank you very much ,Kyle

  • Thanks for watching and I will pass along your comment. I totally agree that these stories need to be preserved. That was our purpose.

  • My late grandfather served throughout the second world war with the British army, I think it's extremely important that we strive to make sure the sacrifices and stories of these men and women are remembered for today's and future generations. Tell this gentleman it's an honour to hear him speak.

    From Great Britain.
