I don't think they made a mistake in her surgery. From my understanding, they did just what they set out to do -- unfortunately, the surgery was very outdated at the time and the doctors should have known better than to perform it.

Well, unfortunately, Julie was only one of the many singers that suffered from nodules on her vocal chords. The only way to rid oneself of the nodules is a reeeally long vocal rest, (which in some cases is out of the question) or the risky surgery, which Julie undertook....but without success.

Nodules cannot really be 'removed' by stripping them from the vocal folds without causing damage to the vocal folds themselves. The vocal fold consists of several layers, and nodules from on the epithelium (I believe), the thinnest layer which consists only of mucosal tissue. This layer cannot be repaired when it is damaged, particularly when parts of it are cut away. The only real solution, as you said, is vocal rest and therapy.

Ummm... In this vid, it was before the tradgedy happened but, now Julie Andrews had a complete accident that ruined her voice.., She had to have a surgery on her throat (it could have been something else, though) and the doctors damaged her vocal chords. She know can only sing one octave (she had a 4octave voice) and I feel so sorry for her. I think she is awesome, and though she went ecstatic when she found out, she kept on going... I will always admire Julie Andrews♥♥♥.
