Most who live in the Springfield area don't travel/live outside of the Ozarks. So, most of the Springfield citizens will not have anything to compare to, and thus, they will agree it's a great place to live.

I work for the Division of Youth Services and 9 out of every 10 kids in our custody have ties to gangs. The gang problem in Spfld is a real one and if our community does not wake up to this problem more and more of Springfield's kids will become statistics. And I don't want to hear people say that they are only wannabees because they are committing real crimes......attempted murder, burglary, robbery, rape, etc..and that is just from the kids in one facility; Spfld has 5 facilities in town!
The reporter said that Springfield does have Brad Pitt to go on and also of course The Simpsons location being in Springfield. But he failed to do his homework on that information because nowhere in the Simpsons does it state Springfield MISSOURI.

I grew up in Springfield and now I live in Memphis. Everynight on the news you hear about 3 or 4 murders, a couple of rapes and who knows what else. Wow, the people that did this survey must not have taken a look at Lebanon, MO. I grew up in Lebanon until I was 18, and then bum rushed my way to Springfield. Huge upgrade. Lots to do, plenty of places to shop, good restaurants, plenty of concerts and shows, and generally friendly people (with few exceptions that you would expect anywhere).

I remember the cashew chicken place on Glenstone that was called "Cashew Kitty" because the health dept. made a surprise inspection and found dead cats in the freezer. They sure did taste good!

What once was something new for families has become an empty shell of itself. Also to mention that due to increased land value/rent downtown, we no longer have the variety of art there was.

The editors of Best Life magazine need to take a Statistics 101 course. The city of Springfield, Missouri has one of the highest standards of living in the country--you have to adjust all of those figures by a cost-of-living index you dopes.
I raised my family here. All 4 children became decent, stable, honor students and college educated adults. They attended Kickapoo HS, which was ranked one of the the 100 BEST high schools in the nation. We have a very reasonable cost of living. We also have a low crime rate, lots of family friendly activities, and 2 of the 100 best Hospitals in the nation. New York doesn't have a clue where children should be raised.......look at their crime rates!!

I have lived in springfield for a lot of my life. I have read posts saying the people here are closed minded. I think people are forgetting that there will always be open and closed minded people. We have plenty of both. Many good universities. Attractions are growing by the day. We are finally starting to get a tech culture here. Springfield is growing into big city, we need people here who care about this place and want to help it grow into a better city. Not just tear it down and complain.
to clarify why: lack of cultural diversity, over populated with "better-than-thou" christians, not environmentally conscious, high crime-rate, lack of opportunity for outdoor activities, basically a town full of close-minded, judgmental, arrogant people... at least, that's what i've gathered from my 3 years here...

Missouri is a good place in general, (You can actually pick out MO on google earth viewing it in 2005, because it's one of the last places to turn from Green color, to Gray. Springtown isn't all that morally great though.. Too much gray and concrete, too high of cost of living, too many rules and regulations, too much noise, too much crime.. not enough buses to keep kids safe, etc. etc..
You're making an assumption when you have no idea the places I've been.. It's not high if you compare to out of state places, like the NE states for example, but I'm comparing it to the smaller towns around the city, like webster county.
Springfield is not that bad. There is lots to do here. Parks, bowling alleys, a few concerts from time to time, arcades and for party people there are plenty of bars downtown. Not to mention all the differenet theaters, film and stage.
I have lived in 6 different states and many cities and Springfield is my favorite. Sure, Galveston, TX is a great place but I think they have a little bit more crime plus the risk of hurricanes.

I went there 2002 - 2006, after they added onto the building. And when my mother went there there was more then drugs. I work for the Division of Youth Services and 9 out of every 10 kids in our custody have ties to gangs. The gang problem in Spfld is a real one and if our community does not wake up to this problem more and more of Springfield's kids will become statistics. And I don't want to hear people say that they are only wannabees because they are committing real crimes......attempted murder, burglary, robbery, rape, etc..and that is just from the kids in one facility; Spfld has 5 facilities in town!

I grew up in Springfield and now I live in Memphis. Everynight on the news you hear about 3 or 4 murders, a couple of rapes and who knows what else. Numbers can be manipulated to show exactly what you want them to show. When I went to college I was much better prepared for my classes than many of my fellow students, but only finished about halfway in my class. Go figure.

Wow, the people that did this survey must not have taken a look at Lebanon, MO. I grew up in Lebanon until I was 18, and then bum rushed my way to Springfield. Huge upgrade. Lots to do, plenty of places to shop, good restaurants, plenty of concerts and shows, and generally friendly people (with few exceptions that you would expect anywhere).
I am soooo much happier here than I ever was anywhere else.

In my opinion, Springfield lacks a lot of culture, and if there is a bud of it, it's commercialized or not supported. Let's take a look at ArtWalk. What once was something new for families has become an empty shell of itself. Also to mention that due to increased land value/rent downtown, we no longer have the variety of art there was.

That article is pure bull crap. I have been to many other cities the size of Springfield and it out shines them all. We moved here to MO from IL about 9 years ago and have not regretted it once. Peoria, IL is about the size of Springfield and it is 100 times worse. If the crime rate is going up it is because of the Katrina refuges and others that are diversifying the city. @radroofer ain't that the truth. i ran into a pair of black men about a year ago, when i was at a local store, and i am a single woman w/ my young daughter in the truck. all they wanted was a ride a few blocks, and i could see why, since the older man probably would be very sore if they just walked. didn't even hesitate, told them to climb in the back and i took them there. they were all smiles, and thanked us nicely when we dropped them off.

I raised my family here. All 4 children became decent, stable, honor students and college educated adults. They attended Kickapoo HS, which was ranked one of the the 100 BEST high schools in the nation. We have a very reasonable cost of living. We also have a low crime rate, lots of family friendly activities, and 2 of the 100 best Hospitals in the nation. New York doesn't have a clue where children should be raised.......look at their crime rates!!

I have lived in springfield for a lot of my life. I have read posts saying the people here are closed minded. I think people are forgetting that there will always be open and closed minded people. We have plenty of both. Many good universities. Attractions are growing by the day. We are finally starting to get a tech culture here. Springfield is growing into big city, we need people here who care about this place and want to help it grow into a better city. Not just tear it down and complain.

Missouri is a good place in general, (You can actually pick out MO on google earth viewing it in 2005, because it's one of the last places to turn from Green color, to Gray. Springtown isn't all that morally great though.. Too much gray and concrete, too high of cost of living, too many rules and regulations, too much noise, too much crime.. not enough buses to keep kids safe, etc. etc..

There is lots to do here. Parks, bowling alleys, a few concerts from time to time, arcades and for party people there are plenty of bars downtown. Not to mention all the differenet theaters, film and stage.
I have lived in 6 different states and many cities and Springfield is my favorite. Sure, Galveston, TX is a great place but I think they have a little bit more crime plus the risk of hurricanes.

Born and raised in Springfield MO, loved it. 22 now and in the army, and honestly laughing at all these comments about gangs and hard crime.
Springfields gangs are mostly wannabe hard asses, that are to doped up on their drug of choice to accomplish much besides small time crimes. Drug abuse is rampant, unfortunately. Marijuana and Meth being the main two, but cocaine, exstacy, and LSD are there to. Its a nice town if you don't go looking for trouble and stay smart when out at night.

I went there 2002 - 2006, after they added onto the building. And when my mother went there there was more then drugs. Fights involving knives and chains on a daily bases, a lot revolving around if you were white or black, some wanna be gangs, and some other screwed up stuff. Right now its a nice place.

Whoever wrote the article for Best Life is full of shit and probly hasnt even been to hawaii much less lived there. I went to school there thru 2004 & at the time it ranked 49th of 50 in edu. Not to mention cost of living is rediculous. If ur white prepare to be descriminated against by locals. Half of oahu is commercial or mil dollar homes the other half is a gang infested slum.
