the point is Howie walked right into his fate, no matter how much warning surrounded him. I look at burn out celebs and think of this movie. Human sacrifice is alive and well
The director's cut is fantastic. I have both versions and was disappointed in the first released version which had several scenes cut out, including Gently Johnny which is IMHO the best song of the movie. They did a wonderful job of incorporating some footage from a recently found footage.
I actually saw the director's cut before the theatrical version and I think I prefer the director's cut. Christopher Lee totally nailed that role and it remains a mystery to me that he wasn't in the remake...but replaced by Ellen Burstyn?!?! wtf?
"one of the best films ever. DO NOT watch the new one, its a joke compared to this!"
I totally agree. Everyone who has not seen this, watch the Director's Cut DVD, the version in which Edward Woodward's Howie spends 2 nights at the Green Man Inn. If Howie is there only one night, you're watching the "butchered" version.
We have the full length version where Willow takes the young man under the escort of Lord Summer Isle - it adds to the surrealness. The DVD id not include this and the snail bit!!
It's the only film to scare the shite out of you without resorting to blood and guts, and the hero gets bumprd off at the end.I remermber seeing it for the first time as a kid and just being left open jawed at the fact they just bbq'ed old Eddie Woodwaed.Awesome movie.Aye they don't make them like that anymore.
I saw the American remake, and I just laughed (except at the ending) . They replaced all the hot girls with seniors, and there were rarely any hotties left. And the damn thing was full of logical gaps. So therefore, I must have that DVD.
yea i know...the US monster remakes are eating good original movies and spitting out not so good versions of it. I mean the ring and ju-on was totally not scary in the american version cos yea there isnt a sadako in america....the wicker man looks very interesting though. The remake looks like something to do with demons and cults but the original one looks like murder.
Most of Hollywoods remakes are never as good as the first. And the only reason remakes are made is because it's tried and proven to be popular. The only plots you can possibly reuse are Dracular, King Arthur and Robin Hood cause they always seems to be at least different from the last one made which doesn't happen with an other remakes
Yeah, lots of devil/ demon imagery going on. But that loses the whole point of what the Wicker Man means, the Wicker Man was apart of pagan rituals (mostly Celtic). The reason probably for the change is to make it seem more evil, and since the original was about the clash of hard lined Christian v.s pagans, which isn't so taboo today. Its seems more like an simple guy versus devil worshippers.
That's because the US isn't really good at horror anymore. CGI and big budgets breed bad, bad horror movies. The Japanese, on the other hand, are masters of the chilling horror that the US used to be capable of.
The original Wicker Man is my most favorite movie. I will admit, I'm curious to see the Cage version, just to see how bad it really is.
