Winifred Atwell helped maintain the stature of true, uptempo ragtime piano playing (versus the slow, boring stuff which is often purported to be the way people listened to ragtime in 1900).
love winifreds music it takes me back to my teens i bought an LP or should i say my dad bought it in heathrow airport when he and i went to england in the seventies sadly my dad has passed and i lost the al bum but these clips bring back so many memories
@vimana19 haha no thats not hitler. he died in 1945 and this is somewhere in the beginning of the fifties. well maybe he came out from his grave to listen to a black woman play piano :D
Wonderful video! I hope you like mine ( 18 videos on you tube ). WAtwell is one of my all-time favourits, together with Julia Lee and Nellie Lutcher. Just had a great time with watchting this video !
Winifred Atwell is definitely my all time favourite pianist, she has been from I first heard Black & White Rag on the TV show, "Pot Black", when I was just 2 years old, that music stuck in my memory and the beauty about Winifred's playing is the fact that it is timeless and is as much a tresure to listen to now, as it was back then.
Top rating to the "Queen Of The Ivories", thank you for uploading the clips.
This is a very "dramatic" video. =p

A very talented artist of music, her rendition was performed with accuracy and of a scale, we may never quite see again.

Mrs. Winifred Atwell is the best boogie player bar none!!!!
Her husband is usually on base in the background playing with her. She is amazing!

Yet another incredible 'B' side from Winnie (to Britannia Rag). Talk about 2 for the price of 1! I'll never get fed up with this disc.
