@rubyhorror or the "law" was less afraid of those not prepared to follow it, pay taxes, or live normally. good old days look at the recent student protests in london, not enough police and far too few truncheons hence the misbehaviour.
@kpuc1973 LIVE ''NORMALLY'' ??? who the hell can judge who should , or how we should live .. and where does your standard of normality sit ? most of the police who get set on these protests are antagonistic , start the fights themselves and are like angry bulldogs before anything has happened & dont know how to behave themselves . so how the hell would the kids ?
@rubyhorror Normality is what is what is within the boundaries of what is socially acceptable at a certain time in history.
I'm not sure moving onto someone else's land. not working, refusing to pay taxes, but always remembering to claim benefits comes within the realms of normal at anytime.
Though like your comment "...most of the police who get set on these protests are antagonistic ...." it may just be a generalisation.
The kids learn the most from their parents, not strangers.
@kpuc1973 Moving onto an unused area of land is victimless crime, and so shouldn't be a crime at all. Granted, those who can work, should work, and pay taxes, since it undermines the point of benefits and taxes. However, this in no way justifies atrocities like Operation Solstice. I believe the Nazi party imprisoned gypsies and vagrants because they weren't "socially useful" - I believe we're more civilised than that.
@aliencheesemaker A very naive comment. It is not a victimless crime, the victim is the landowner. More scpecifically here, the intention of the ban was to protect an ancient monument for future generations.
There is no connection between evicting squatters and the Nazi party's crimes against humanity. To suggest so lessens their crime and the victims' suffering.
It is nice that you told us your beliefs, however, Stalin, Pol Pot and 1990s Balkans etc tell us we are not that civilised.
@kpuc1973 The majority of the damage done to the stone was by Victorian tourists, and second is natural weathering. If there is a genuine concern that more damage could take place, it should be voiced, but not with the swing of a truncheon.
And you're incorrectly grouping libertarian views with socialist ones. Yes, I have socialist views, same as Pol Pot and Stalin. My views are more "free". Closer to the likes of Gandhi.
And squatters: If they do no harm, there's no loss to anyone
@aliencheesemaker The truncheon came after the weeks of announcements not to go there and after the police close roads and tried to turn the travellers back.
If people won't listen/obey the law...
Of course squatters do harm, they deprive the owner of the use of their property.
I understand your attraction to socialism, but it doesn't work when people are involved. You like sharing other's property, I'm not sure you'd share yours as willingly, certainly less so if you were wealthy.
@kpuc1973 If people won't listen/obey the law... Beat the shit out of them... Of COURSE
And squatters take residence in properties that are bought for investment purposes. Buy a house. Make a few upgrades. Sit on it for a bit, sell for a profit. Usually they're not even renting it out. Not using it at all.
And I'm open to sharing my property, especially if I'm not using it.
@aliencheesemaker Please do not put words in my mouth. It's certainly not what happened last week with the silly student protests now is it. But police without batons or shields would be less than useless in that scenario.
Are you saying property is theft now? Your statements of "usually.." are sweeping generalisations and do not apply to most cases. what's wrong with owning more than one house, renting it, or if you can afford it keeping it?
@kpuc1973 I'm afraid this debate serves no logical function. You are dead set in your assertions, as am I. We could continue like this forever, but it'd drift to the point of being entirely unconnected to the actual video. I respect your beliefs. You certainly form an argument correctly and are sure you're correct. However, going this way, it will never end, and the comments will be full of our rantings
@aliencheesemaker Well I enjoyed crossing swords verbally with you. I respect your views which do have some allure. But the weak point from my perspective is that people are inherently selfish (hence the failure of communism). That does not mean that capitalism is much better of course as we are seeing now.
Your views may change slowly, as have mine
I am slightly tickled by your concern of filling up the comments squatting here in endless cyberspace, but real space is ok
@kpuc1973 no the rich should be fucking executed ,,how much is enough ,unless we start to live in balance with this planet and take what we need instead of what we want we are all fucked ,,we have destabilised the entire eco system of the whole planet and for what we are mostly miserable we are being enslaved into debt and the food we eat is fucking plastic ,,if you think the world and people are going in the right direction then your a fucking idiot open your eyes you prick
@couchpotato43 thanks for posting, however I had a reasonable exchange with someone quite intelligent who holds an opposing view to me.
Quite refreshing and then you joined in with rubbish lettered with the F word
Still it's better than the rubbish you posted to some other victim of your acid tongue. "...shut up you anal cunt ,,the world would be a boring place without cunts like this ,,we are a very diverse species get your head out of you arse..."
just the start of nwo on public freedom!!weakened by the supermarket lifestyle the natzi reigime is a work making slaves for the future taking your cash to pave the way !
Good to see a great British institution from the fields of Wiltshire to the streets of London during ths Stormont demo sad inadequate men bullying attacking and killing members of the public
one could easily understand the travellers attacked on the beanfield habouring extreme bitterness towards the police to this very day. this was a wicked act of uncontrolled violence againts defenceless people, the police should be ashamed.
I can remember when the NATS turned up at Castlemoreton in Worcs. Thousands of them who brought a crimewave and chaos. They left tons and tons of litter, dead pets, vehicles, needles and human excrement. NIMBY! You must remember that the NATS were challenging society and the govt. They were told not to go near the stones but they did anyway, had to expect a reaction. I think the police over -reacted. What would have happened had they been allowed?
@goodbadugly654 Really pal I Was There For 3 days After the Injunction Cleaning up and I Certainly Didn't see any Dead Pets! And the vehicles your talking about I think yo'ull find They were Left Cos the Police had Placed Prohibition orders on them!
@sikmagpie Ohhh, maybe it was a different Castlemoreton then!! So the Police are blamed for the vehicles as well then? Those vehicles were not even remotely roadworthy- it's the same law for us all.
What those dole- bludgers left was more or less a toxic waste dump. My point was the perhaps my experience of the NATs isnt so great!
Rise up children of the stars & don't allow people who have no right cause to stop you exercising your freedom to gather at places of your heritage. Stand up & claim your rights because we need the stones & the stones need people. The struggle goes on. Omni Padmi ohm
its f**kin unbelievable what went on only 20 or so years ago,it would never happen these days because everyone has a camera, the police(state) that was thatchers britain was not a happy place.People were trying to find a space that wasnt shirt and tie conformist and when they did they were beaten into submission.Thankfuly there were some who had the courage to cary on and i thank those people for that,as they paved the way for the rest of us to enjoy the space and sounds that now cary us 4ward
To be honest, even though they dished out rough treatment the hippies would`ve been warned not to go near the stones and chose not to heed the warning then they barged in,still out of order treatment though.
the whole point is they where told they could not go forward towards the stones, they where also told they could not go back the way they came. They where given nowhere to go.
caydius- bitchin and moaning does work, why the hell do you think that the stones are open to the people at solstice now!!! behind closed doors there hav been many meetings ect over the many years. i hope that the outcome for "the big green gathering"is what you want, but i assure you behind closed doors a lot of bitchin will be going on to get it reinstated for 2010 !!!!
stonehenge was left to the people of this country by the land owners many years ago, unfortunatly english heritage decided to take control and make quite a lot of money from it.they put the fences up(razor wire at one point !!!), and they started charging entry to the stones, now lets see, if an organization took over your church, put up fences and then started charging you to worship wouldnt it make you just a tad upset !!!!!!
I think they should use Stonehenge as a 'new' new age' sacrifice centre. Imagine if you will hundreds of the 'UB40' brigade and i don't mean the fans of UB40, I am talking about the "signers on' who not only don't want to work but spend all of the taxpayers money on special brew, roll up fags and skunk, not to mention that they smell like skunks. So let's give them what they want: a Stonehenge revisited. Imagine the savings on dole we would make. First off those who refuse to write correcty
@v74Bvdmp: Be careful what you wish for. You have an extra apostrophe in your first sentence, missing commas in your second sentence, a quotation mark/apostrophe mismatch in your second sentence, a comma splice in your second sentence, a missing comma and missing full stop in your final sentence. Will you be first in the queue at the altar?
what sort of country are we living in for this to happen to innocent people who are just trying to live a peaceful life away from the sociaties bulls**t.
as jack kerouac said.." its 1 line of crime, and 9 of boredom"..for .police with they taxpaid for big cruisers, bothering a guy who just wantsa make a small fire and eat his beans in nature..
why are you suprised. See what they did to the miners. Evidently they don't like people who drop out take drugs sign on and dont look for a job. Same in any country
fucking police, theyre sposed to be there to protect people but time after time we see them acting like thugs beating up innocent people who happen to disagree with the system.
"two new requirements for anyone wanting to join the police: intelligence and decency. who knows, it could work, it certainly hasnt been tried yet" - George Carlin
Stonehenge this year was a fucking joke "earth lovers" my fucking ass. The police should have fucking done it again to stop how badly thoes fucking hippys trashed the land.
I got nothing against what they stand for, infact I wish we were still allowed to go up close to the stones, but the cunts that trashed the grounds this year are EXACTLY the reason we get shit taken from us.
The police over reacted here, but at the end of the day there WAS a 4 mile exclusion zone that they went into.
Why? do you deny that Stone Henge was not trashed last year by all the litter? These so called hippies that spend their days bitching about the battle of bean-field, and then they set an example like that?
What the fuck message are they even trying to send? Give us what we want, so we can treat it like shit.
Stone Henge is a fantastic piece of Neolithic history, something that gives us an insight into their lifestyle. Dosn't help if you retards jump around every year leaving all your shit.
The more I see this I wonder just what you see Caius??? Can you follow lyrics? If so whats to dispute?? Pollice doin the kickin on A cult of society a great thing where You live is it?? Feeble response of "lets protect the Sones is absurd, GET REAL!!
why can't you hippies learn to write correctly in English? That is the biggest disgrace of all. Art or good English for that matter, is not the reserve of ' the suits'. it just indicates that you are unable to reason in a coherent manner. Or perhaps it's caused by all the drugs you take to 'enhance' your mental state?
Yes I can follow the lyrics, and yes obviously I know what the lyrics are saying, but so the fuck what?
You think because a band says it its an undesputable issue? I don't agree with the meaning of this song, I think they are spreading more anger and hate towards a politcal system that is no longer in place.
And whilst I would say it was an unfortunate piece of our history, they DID break the law, they did take down fences to get there. hell, if they broke my fence, I would want blood.
ok so you don`t agree with the lyrics however there was unecessary violence that day, fact, which makes me wonder what you would be wanting to do to someone who broke your fence? & really the "against the law.." bit doesn`t hold much substance as I`m sure you like me break laws all day long without heavy handed attack. Anyway its a great song methinks & was interesting period guess we`ll have to disagree then. Check out Castra below.
Well I was on staff for "The Big Green Gathering" this year, which as you may or may not know, was forced to surrender it's licence to the police 2 days before the festival, causing, understandably, a lot of anti-police attitudes going around.
Thing is, as the staff, the last thing we wanted was for people to show up anyway, as we knew it would do NOTHING to help the situation, the police set up exclusion zones etc and we urged people to stay away.
It was because of this that we have a hope for the festival to happen again, I am a firm believer that whilst government rule may not always be the best, there really is no gain to be had from btiching and moaning about it.
It may not have been a "pleasant" experiance, but by deliberatly defying the government, they sought to undermine their authority. Something that you should know about authority, it can NEVER afford to be undermined.
I think there can be gain in bitching and moaning about it, just as long as action is used as well. Obviously action should be legal, unless absolutely necessary. In any case it shouldn't be immoral, hurting people and the like. It may not always work, but otherwise, it would be effective dictatorship. I'm a firm believer that the importance of the goverment is grounded in the fact that we have a part to play in it, and it is subject to our scrutiny and input.
@Caydius breaking fences and breaking people are two very different crimes. By your logic of escalation what do you propose should have been done to the police?
@badong28 Nothing, crime followed by justice and that is where the track ends. It's just hyped up because half assed "religious" belifes of the hippies are involved.
I wouldn't mind this argument if everyone wasn't so misinformed about the purpose anyway. Why does Stone Henge matter to you people? Have you ever considered, and I mean REALLY considered what the purpose of it was in the first place?
i only wish i started listening to this band earlier in life... the age of 14 just isnt good enough, 3 years later and i still love them. may their music and messages never die.
This is what happens when your believed idea of democracy and choice of how you would like to live your life is put to the test, they refused to be part of the system, the system attempted to irradicate them. The levs are a fine antidote for todays image, cash obsessed groups, artists ,etc. paraded in front of us daily.
and what are the lev's about now a days? I've been a fan for many ears and find tht the boys have become a 'cash obsessed' band!! it's been a long time and i guess people forget! lets not eh?
Scary memories of a crime against defenceless human beings. Did anyone actually call the head of Wiltshire police a liar at the time, after his version of events? They have now..
The live version from the Lev's still sends shivers down the spine when I hear it live.
it does me, probably still my favourite levs song, its a shame simon seems to have mellowed.. it doesnt carry the same spite as it used to. part of the reason i did this.. just to remind us all what the song was about. Funny, a freind of mine's grandad turns out to have been one of the coppers in charge that day.. made for interesting conversation... :D Was the day the world changed, for a lot of people.

@kpuc1973 LIVE ''NORMALLY'' ??? who the hell can judge who should , or how we should live .. and where does your standard of normality sit ? most of the police who get set on these protests are antagonistic , start the fights themselves and are like angry bulldogs before anything has happened & dont know how to behave themselves . so how the hell would the kids ?
rubyhorror 1 year ago
@rubyhorror Normality is what is what is within the boundaries of what is socially acceptable at a certain time in history.
I'm not sure moving onto someone else's land. not working, refusing to pay taxes, but always remembering to claim benefits comes within the realms of normal at anytime.
Though like your comment "...most of the police who get set on these protests are antagonistic ...." it may just be a generalisation.
The kids learn the most from their parents, not strangers.
kpuc1973 1 year ago
@kpuc1973 Moving onto an unused area of land is victimless crime, and so shouldn't be a crime at all. Granted, those who can work, should work, and pay taxes, since it undermines the point of benefits and taxes. However, this in no way justifies atrocities like Operation Solstice. I believe the Nazi party imprisoned gypsies and vagrants because they weren't "socially useful" - I believe we're more civilised than that.
aliencheesemaker 1 year ago
@aliencheesemaker A very naive comment. It is not a victimless crime, the victim is the landowner. More scpecifically here, the intention of the ban was to protect an ancient monument for future generations.
There is no connection between evicting squatters and the Nazi party's crimes against humanity. To suggest so lessens their crime and the victims' suffering.
It is nice that you told us your beliefs, however, Stalin, Pol Pot and 1990s Balkans etc tell us we are not that civilised.
kpuc1973 1 year ago
@kpuc1973 The majority of the damage done to the stone was by Victorian tourists, and second is natural weathering. If there is a genuine concern that more damage could take place, it should be voiced, but not with the swing of a truncheon.
And you're incorrectly grouping libertarian views with socialist ones. Yes, I have socialist views, same as Pol Pot and Stalin. My views are more "free". Closer to the likes of Gandhi.
And squatters: If they do no harm, there's no loss to anyone
aliencheesemaker 1 year ago
@aliencheesemaker The truncheon came after the weeks of announcements not to go there and after the police close roads and tried to turn the travellers back.
If people won't listen/obey the law...
Of course squatters do harm, they deprive the owner of the use of their property.
I understand your attraction to socialism, but it doesn't work when people are involved. You like sharing other's property, I'm not sure you'd share yours as willingly, certainly less so if you were wealthy.
kpuc1973 1 year ago
@kpuc1973 If people won't listen/obey the law... Beat the shit out of them... Of COURSE
And squatters take residence in properties that are bought for investment purposes. Buy a house. Make a few upgrades. Sit on it for a bit, sell for a profit. Usually they're not even renting it out. Not using it at all.
And I'm open to sharing my property, especially if I'm not using it.
aliencheesemaker 1 year ago
@aliencheesemaker Please do not put words in my mouth. It's certainly not what happened last week with the silly student protests now is it. But police without batons or shields would be less than useless in that scenario.
Are you saying property is theft now? Your statements of "usually.." are sweeping generalisations and do not apply to most cases. what's wrong with owning more than one house, renting it, or if you can afford it keeping it?
should the rich have their money nationalised?
kpuc1973 1 year ago
@kpuc1973 I'm afraid this debate serves no logical function. You are dead set in your assertions, as am I. We could continue like this forever, but it'd drift to the point of being entirely unconnected to the actual video. I respect your beliefs. You certainly form an argument correctly and are sure you're correct. However, going this way, it will never end, and the comments will be full of our rantings
aliencheesemaker 1 year ago
@aliencheesemaker Well I enjoyed crossing swords verbally with you. I respect your views which do have some allure. But the weak point from my perspective is that people are inherently selfish (hence the failure of communism). That does not mean that capitalism is much better of course as we are seeing now.
Your views may change slowly, as have mine
I am slightly tickled by your concern of filling up the comments squatting here in endless cyberspace, but real space is ok

Great track though...

My point was the perhaps my experience of the NATs isnt so great!

stonehenge was left to the people of this country by the land owners many years ago, unfortunatly english heritage decided to take control and make quite a lot of money from it.they put the fences up(razor wire at one point !!!), and they started charging entry to the stones, now lets see, if an organization took over your church, put up fences and then started charging you to worship wouldnt it make you just a tad upset !!!!!!
riverpikey 2 years ago
I think they should use Stonehenge as a 'new' new age' sacrifice centre. Imagine if you will hundreds of the 'UB40' brigade and i don't mean the fans of UB40, I am talking about the "signers on' who not only don't want to work but spend all of the taxpayers money on special brew, roll up fags and skunk, not to mention that they smell like skunks. So let's give them what they want: a Stonehenge revisited. Imagine the savings on dole we would make. First off those who refuse to write correcty

What the fuck message are they even trying to send? Give us what we want, so we can treat it like shit.
Stone Henge is a fantastic piece of Neolithic history, something that gives us an insight into their lifestyle. Dosn't help if you retards jump around every year leaving all your shit.

why can't you hippies learn to write correctly in English? That is the biggest disgrace of all.
Caydius 2 years ago
ok so you don`t agree with the lyrics however there was unecessary violence that day, fact, which makes me wonder what you would be wanting to do to someone who broke your fence? & really the "against the law.." bit doesn`t hold much substance as I`m sure you like me break laws all day long without heavy handed attack. Anyway its a great song methinks & was interesting period guess we`ll have to disagree then. Check out Castra below.
tranmer3 2 years ago
Well I was on staff for "The Big Green Gathering" this year, which as you may or may not know, was forced to surrender it's licence to the police 2 days before the festival, causing, understandably, a lot of anti-police attitudes going around.
Thing is, as the staff, the last thing we wanted was for people to show up anyway, as we knew it would do NOTHING to help the situation, the police set up exclusion zones etc and we urged people to stay away.
Caydius 2 years ago
It was because of this that we have a hope for the festival to happen again, I am a firm believer that whilst government rule may not always be the best, there really is no gain to be had from btiching and moaning about it.
It may not have been a "pleasant" experiance, but by deliberatly defying the government, they sought to undermine their authority. Something that you should know about authority, it can NEVER afford to be undermined.
Caydius 2 years ago
I DO see your standpoint & ta 4 clarifying.
tranmer3 2 years ago
I think there can be gain in bitching and moaning about it, just as long as action is used as well. Obviously action should be legal, unless absolutely necessary. In any case it shouldn't be immoral, hurting people and the like. It may not always work, but otherwise, it would be effective dictatorship. I'm a firm believer that the importance of the goverment is grounded in the fact that we have a part to play in it, and it is subject to our scrutiny and input.
sniperfish 2 years ago
@Caydius breaking fences and breaking people are two very different crimes. By your logic of escalation what do you propose should have been done to the police?
badong28 2 years ago
@badong28 Nothing, crime followed by justice and that is where the track ends. It's just hyped up because half assed "religious" belifes of the hippies are involved.
I wouldn't mind this argument if everyone wasn't so misinformed about the purpose anyway. Why does Stone Henge matter to you people? Have you ever considered, and I mean REALLY considered what the purpose of it was in the first place?
