What most people that argue all of this also miss is the price difference. If I buy a Viper and build it until i spend a compareable amount of money to a euro super car, then we can compare.

Ive actually been to the factories and indeed used to drive both Lambo Diablo and Ferrari 355 back when the 360 was new. They have both come a long way since. I went to both factories last summer and they are both very impressive in their own way. Ferrari has better engineering.. because they have the best research and dev department in the business. Lambos however are insanely good looking and not far behind in quality. There are VERY few things that can compare at all.
Well I've heard these days that Lambo is putting out a far better produce. Still cost a hell of a lot to fix but I guess thats why they are for rich people.
And yes.. its probably cheaper to run a banana republic in south america than to own a Lambo. Especially an older one. Now its slightly better and as supercars go, a Lambo Murcielago is actually not too bad priced.

The Dodge Journey has been #1 selling for awhile now.

Obama will help cover their debts if they promise to ditch all exsisting chrysler models within 4 years and replace them with Fiats. A company is bankrupt when they are not able to pay off their debts within a reasonable time.. They are being kept artificially alive because the government is afraid of what will happen to the 100 000s of workers + families if the companies die..

Its a myth that Lamborghini had anything to do with the Vipers engine. Never actually happened.
Chrysler did ask Lambo to have a look at it. Lambo said this engine was far from good enough for a performance car and suggested radical changes. They Veyron is a very good handling car. The reason why the Viper beat it is because it's obviously made for the track where as the Veyron is full of luxury. If you're looking to compare The Viper ACR you should comapre it to the Gumpert which spanked the Viper on the Nurburgring.
It beat the Bugatti on top speed by 2 miles per hour....and that's it, it didn't beat it on the track, or to 60 and didn't even come close to the luxury the Bugatti comes with.

@Janusha you can make some valid points in your arguements. However you compare the Harley (which most people know is way overpriced) to other American engineered products far too often. What most people that argue all of this also miss is the price difference. If I buy a Viper and build it until i spend a compareable amount of money to a euro super car, then we can compare.

Ive lived in several countries, owned a couple of supercars and a few american classics. I visit supercar factories like Koenigsegg, Pagani, Lambo and Ferrari. Which is more than you did.. Its like a hobby for me and I find most americans are simply spamming about anything american because its american. They have no credibility as automakers. Does anyone remember the Chrysler ME412 concept? The car that was ready to be made but Mercedes canned it because it was faster, had better handling and was a lot cheaper to make then their Mclaren.( worlds fast street legal at the time)

When it came to Mercedes and Chryslers cooperation. It turned out to be an endless money drain for Mercedes that couldnt use anything from Chrysler. Whereas Chrysler used Mercedes stuff for everything. Mercedes eventually left and Chrysler died. Chrysler was now given away to Fiat for free. Not because chrysler cars were too good.

They canned it because the SLR division was mad about being shown up. Mercedes did not like Chrysler and ever since they bought them they put down their cars. If they liked Chrysler they would have produced it.
Chrysler was doing good until Mercedes came in and decreases the quality of their interiors and what not. Look at the next gen Chryslers. Interiors are going to be much better.

Ive actually been to the factories and indeed used to drive both Lambo Diablo and Ferrari 355 back when the 360 was new. They have both come a long way since. I went to both factories last summer and they are both very impressive in their own way. Ferrari has better engineering.. because they have the best research and dev department in the business. Lambos however are insanely good looking and not far behind in quality. There are VERY few things that can compare at all.

Handbuilt carbon will be more expensive than mass produced steel.
However.. Speed is cheap. Its not the price tag that keeps them on the road. Its rock hard engineering. Styling, quality and handling is what costs money.

Chrysler is the strongest car company in Canada. Their Caravan have been outselling all the competition for over 10 years, the Dodge Ram is right up there. The Chrysler 300's and Dodge Chargers are everywhere. Same with the Caliber. All their cars. Last Spring they were Canadas top selling car company. The Dodge Journey has been #1 selling for awhile now.

Let me educate you a tiny bit.. Chrysler has struggled for years. Fiat got Chrysler for free to avoid bankruptcy.. Obama will help cover their debts if they promise to ditch all exsisting chrysler models within 4 years and replace them with Fiats. A company is bankrupt when they are not able to pay off their debts within a reasonable time.. They are being kept artificially alive because the government is afraid of what will happen to the 100 000s of workers + families if the companies die..

Dude.. youre way off. Mercedes dumped Chrysler because it was a moneydrain. They talked about ending all the chrysler cars and only making Mercedeses even 10 years ago. Most chryslers now use 10-15 year old discontinued mercedes bases. They are only held up by the healthy sales of huge pickup trucks. For the future, RAM will no longer be Dodge Ram but will be its own brand seperate from Chrysler. Pickups have always sold well in USA, Canada because japs just dont make their pickups big enough.

Chrysler was given to Fiat for free.. They had to promise to replace all existing chrysler models with Fiat models within 4 years or Obama wont pay their multi billion dollar debts. Thats well and proper bankrupt. GM had similar huge cut downs and they arent done yet. A couple of days ago Ford announced they are laying off another 42000 american workers. The original V10 was reportedly built with the involvement of Lambourghini, which was partly owned by Chrysler at the time; the basic engineering was of course Chryslers, since it was based on the venerable 360, but Lambourghini worked on the cooling system, crankshaft balance, weight reduction, and fine tuning; the Italian automakers expertise in aluminum was also tapped, since the Viper had an aluminum block to save roughly 150 pounds of weight."

Its a myth that Lamborghini had anything to do with the Vipers engine. Never actually happened.
Chrysler did ask Lambo to have a look at it. Lambo said this engine was far from good enough for a performance car and suggested radical changes. Chrysler didnt want to pay for it and instead ended up just molding it out of aluminium and putting it in exactly as it was. The Lambo changes were NEVER done.

A Viper is not an exotic car unless it's imported. If you live in North America I wouldn't call the Viper exotic, because it's from the US. Also, not all Chargers are muscle cars and not all Challengers are pony cars. It depends on which engine they have and how they are badged. R/T's are almost always musclecars

Either introduced from another country : not native to the place where found or strikingly, excitingly, or mysteriously different or unusual. Vipers are sports cars that fit under sports exotic.

One definition states that a sports exotic car must be produced less than 8,000 per year. They do not make 8,000 Vipers per year, maybe 1 to 2000. Its a Sports Exotic along with the Ford GT, Saleen and possibly the ZR1, that is arguable because that is a upgrade from a normal Vette.

Now that Fiat owns Chrysler and Ferrari is in the same group of brands, they are talking of replacing the low tech old fashioned truck engine in the Viper with a Ferrari V10. But probably americans wont like that because that means they cant get all patriotic about it.

The fact that Dodge has put them on their web page doesnt change the fact that its a race car. Im in no way comparing it to a 1975 ferrari either.. Putting a huge 8.4 liter v10 into a car does not qualify it as a supercar. The american way of making supercars is derived from the low tech straight liner musclecar era and simply cant be compared to the far superiour european ones. It just kills me that when ever an American car performed well its never good enough, its not as good as a Lambo, or other $500,000 car. Its a silly myth that Viper engines are made by Lamborghini. Chrysler was subsidiary of Lamborghini at the time and they did ask Lamborghini to look at it. Lambo said the V10 truck engine was too crude and not up to standards for a performance vehicle. Radical changes were suggested but Chrysler didnt want to pay for it. So whatever Lambo suggested was never done. In the end they simply made it out of aluminium and used it as it was. Its true.. anyone can make supercars. USA simply dont.

In 2007 they managed to sell only 400 Vipers. Its been up for sale ever since. Fiat runs Chrysler now. Fiat has owned 56% of Ferrari since 1969 and isnt really interested in the Viper brand. They have talked about putting a Ferrari V10 into it but that would up the price and americans would no longer have a huge pushrod engine to be patriotic about. Viper is in crisis and Saleen is out of business.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR will be hand built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. There producing 4,000 this year, since they were and some years have sold more than 8,000. Comparing Vipers to Farraris is like comparing John Wayne to Bruno! Read facts before you speak, and Ford beat Farrai in the 60's with the Ford GT40 but that probably was a publicity stunt then too.

For years we have been told how the Corvette would "smoke every european supercar" and "performance that no other car can match" It was recently on Top Gears test track and came in at 18th. You know nothing about bankruptcy do you? They went into chapter 11 which means they could not sustain themselves. It doesnt mean they were out of money. They sold some of their brands and let the public buy stock. Oh, and Ford didnt go bankrupt and a few years ago, Fiat went bankrupt. Oh yes americans built the Ford GT. Except the guys from Ford says the wheels are german. Breaks are Italian. Gearbox and body work is brittish. The steering is from an Aston Martin Vanquish. The chassis and road handling was set up by the best in the business, Lotus. But yeah.. This is why its the best thing americans have ever made.

They used a couple of american engines when they started up the company way back because its expensive to build your own engine. I appreciate a good looking american V8 but I dont like the constant BEST IN THE WOORLD rubbish associated with everything american simply because its american regardless of quality. its like Harley Davidson. sure.. If HD is what you want then nothing else will do. While they cant be compared to modern bikes at all.. They are WAY behind in technology, handling and quality. Everyone can see that. There are many Vipers with low miles, most people do not drive them that much. Just like other sports exotic cars. Most drive them a few days a year, why is that hard to believe?

Dude, then what is it? A muscle car is a Charger, a pony car is a Challenger, a sports car is a Turbo Daytona, the Viper can only be a sport exotic. When you look for one on the net it falls under sports exotic. Exotic does not have to be foriegn! Is a Lambo exotic in Italy... YES!

To be exotic it needs to be rare, special and exclusive. None of the ones you mention fill any of those criterias, Is a Lambo special in Italy ? Ofcourse.. Or did you think every italian drive a Lambo.
Handbuilt supercars will always be special. Since americans largely mass produce their cars.. even performance cars so no.. They cant be called exotics. Also they are far too bland and ordinary.

Viper are not bland, ordinary or common. People look at them like they are Ferrari when you see them. Theres are hand built but that is not what makes them exotics. The Viper is not a super car like a Lambo and only a few Ferraris are "Super Cars". I guess a Ford GT is as common as a Focas or Mustang... WRONG!

To me, it makes no difference. No-one gonna race these cars against each other any way. If you want a 250+ mph car, and you don't have a million pound then what choice do you have?
Like you say, 2 mph and topspeed doesn't matter, because theres other factors involved in choice when buying a car.

They Veyron is a very good handling car. The reason why the Viper beat it is because it's obviously made for the track where as the Veyron is full of luxury. If you're looking to compare The Viper ACR you should comapre it to the Gumpert which spanked the Viper on the Nurburgring.

but the fact is that the ultimate aero ssc got the title. that's the important thing. i know the veyron is luxurious but when i want to drive a sport car i want to drive something that i enjoy. for example, the ford mustang is the considered the most selling sport car around the world though it looks normal and other sport cars looks better but as i said, i like to enjoy while driving. feeling the car.
