Elvis Stojko is an asshole. He probably gets called gay all the time for being a figure skater and has to vercompensate by saying ridiculous things like "figure skating is masculine". It's not. Even if you try to make is macho, it's still gliding on ice. The only way to look macho on ice is to hunker over in 50 pounds of padding and hold a hockey stick. Twirls, glides, jumps, sorry, but they look feminine. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm tired of "feminine" being a negative adjective.

He's an AMAZING skater. The people who judged him were biased. The five men that out scored him in the 2010 Winter Olypics all had flaws in their routines and Johnny's was perfect. Not one slip up, not one fall, and he didn't stop to retie a lace like one guy, he was flawless! Evan Lysacek stumbled and he won gold. I find that questionable judging. By putting him in sixth place they buried arguements that could have ensued had they scored him higher. He should have medalled. 'Gayness' and all.

i used to ice skate. I had two male coaches. one was gay and the other wasn't. my gay coach was actually trained for a while by my strait coach who had a rule that was ingrained in our head and that was i don't care how gay you are off ice when you're on the ice you're a man. Luckily for me being strait that wasn't too hard. one thing though, both my male coaches and i hated weir from day one. we never thought he was too amazing and just found him annoying as hell.

I'm also a figure skater, and i find it really offensive that this sport is called the gayest ever! There is no connection between sexual attitude and sport activities, a wrestler or a basketball player can be just az homosexual as a figure skater.
On the contrary, there are a very little percent of gay skaters, and by the way, to perform this feminine sport a huge amount of masculinity, which i am sure this ridicolous guy will never have!! think a little before talk. be an adult.(I'm 15....)

As a figure skater, I get what Elvis is saying, but the thing about skating is, you can only be SO masculine, without looking like a poser. Skating has never been masculine to begin with, and now that homosexuality is being accepted more, the flambouyencey is expected. Although Johnny can overdo it at times, (and just in case your reading this, I honest to God adore you, and you are a hero to me.) he still really shows off the beauty, art, and power required in this sport.

Oh, and another thing I learned from Johnny's book: figure skating is not as "gay" as a lot of people seem to think. It's very political and US Figure Skating prefers men appear stereotypically "strong" and "masculine" and feel uneasy about Johnny because he defies this "ideal." I say more power to him! I know he can skate amazingly, and so do all his other fans. The judges have the problem if they're going to sit there and judge him for anything other than his raw ability on the ice.

I am super annoyed by the 2010 Olympic media's coverage of Johnny, especially after I read about how they introduced him for his long program while reading his book. i used to ice skate. I had two male coaches. one was gay and the other wasn't. my gay coach was actually trained for a while by my strait coach who had a rule that was ingrained in our head and that was i don't care how gay you are off ice when you're on the ice you're a man. Luckily for me being strait that wasn't too hard. one thing though, both my male coaches and i hated weir from day one. we never thought he was too amazing and just found him annoying as hell.

not to mention, @DCMCNYY, the way competitive figure skating is judged is not necessarily on skill. i.e. tara lipinski who while she skated well for her age did not deserve the gold metal the year she won. silver or bronze yeah, but she was young and an underdog in a way and judges eat that shit up. judges will choose favorites and judge accordingly. honestly i think weir did great this past olympics and should have placed higher but he's not very popular in the skating world anymore
