I'm 51 and listened to Pink Floyd and Gilmour all my life. There are some great bands now so I'm not stuck in the past, but David and Floyd seem to make timeless music that worked in the sixtiesand seventies and still works now.
@plusbabs ....so VERY true....just turned 49 and saw them in feb of 1980 on the WALL TOUR, and to this day its STILL the most awesome concert ive ever seen, and ive seen everybody.
@389293912 I agreed with you until I saw Waters live this past November. I gained a whole new respect for him that I never had before. The Wall is one of the most brilliant concept albums ever composed, and it was almost entirely conceived and written by Waters. Gilmour heavily influenced two of the songs, but for the most part he was largely absent. I am very much in the pro-Gilmour camp when asked to choose, but Waters is a goddamn marvel when he has musicians capable of producing his vision
David's voice must be like a rubber band or something -- it just bounces right back from the stresses of harsher vocals like this -- seemingly none the worse for wear.
David Gilmour and Roger Waters are both undoubtedly very talented artists. Gilmour however to me embodies the unique sound of Pink Floyd, whereas Roger does not. Although a talented songwriter, Waters is not a unique bassplayer. I can't blame him for that, it's extremely hard to differentiate yourself playing a bass. Gilmour's guitar sound isn't matched by anyone out there however.
Hello, I'm 15 years old and my life dream is to go to a concert. When i See Gilmour doing his wonderful solos, The way of conduct the concert, his way of expressing himself in letters and instruments is fascinating! Unfortunately today when we share our experiences with younger people and says about pink floyd with they seems to have no importance, today's youth is becoming more common, the essence is gone, the feeling faded. The good old man died
@max3994 bro how do you think i feel ive been listining to this band since i was 7 years old with my father, now im 22 how do you think i feel about todays music.....
@THEPINKFLOYDLIFE I blame Nirvana personally lol , i have a personal belife that Kurt Cobain King of Emos. I know many would and will argue this, but can people honestly tell me that a song about Rapeing ones self being a hit was not a red flag to the crap that the music industry would allow mainstreamed on to the radio waves in years to come? God Bless Pink Floyd, your music saved me in high school.
@Fretlessjay i blame alot of groups but i also know its better like that because there will be no other band EVER this great unique and special only one of its kind!
Damn, Dave is a fucken genious. Nothing's better than his solos full of bends and stuff, oh and his voice, pretty amazing how he hadn't changed it much in more than 20 years, when dudes awfully change their voice in 10 years, Hetfield for example.
Not only is he an outstanding musician and arranger, he has become for me the perfect definition of a seemingly long lost style of English gentleman . . . well spoken, excellent sense of presence, praise for his peers, an amazing sense of modesty, and an undying devotion to friends (i.e. Syd, who he always made sure he received his royalty cheques and still honours his music to this day, along with Richard Wright's).
Take away gilmour's voice and amazing guitar work and you have just a band. Its aparent with this concert that its the guitar work that fills the hall and moves people. Personally Waters is an asshole with an ego that ultimantly broke up the band. When Write and Gilmour took to the road Write said he was never happier and the music was never better. Write and Gilmour were Pink Floyd. I realise watters had an intergral part with the band in the early years but Gilmour shines on stage
@garyguitar01 I'm a Gilmour fan, and he is the man who gives the group his sound, but without Waters, Pink Floyd wouldn't be the same... his texts and his troubles created the meaning of a wonderful music.

I know why Pink Floyd split! Their music is so good that Roger and David had to split so they can make more tours for more ppl to listen! :D ahah joking Pink Floyd for ever in the heart of the real music fans.
I'm really going to miss Rick Wright. He's a big part of the reason the Floyd's music fit together so well. He always seems to be overlooked, but if you listen to their music, his influence is everywhere. A quiet genius.

Are you fucking kidding me these "classic rock bands (especially Pink Floyd) still kick the shit out of any music currently out there, wow and how old is david gilmore like 60 or so, still the best.

outstanding. one of the best solos ever and its fantastic to see rick playing with him and singing. greatest guitar player ever. shame rick is not with us anymore. i hope david continues to play without rick. and maybe even a floyd reunion could happen.
Gilmour will continue to play and record new stuff, but any faint hope of a Pink Floyd reunion died with Rick Wright, unfortunately. David Gilmour has repeatedly said over the past few years that he's not interested, and now that Rick's gone, there is zero chance.

Love this song but the drummer really butchered the percussion. I mean holy shit! He used electronic drums instead of roto toms. Not only was the tempo way to fast but the drum part (intended for roto toms) was not even close to the original fills or notes for that matter. Gilmour of course was a pro as always but holy fuck! Fire that fucking drummer for destroying a classic!!!
Stevie D is a good drummer..he was CS&N too. This entire band that David had on this tour was good...One of the best Echoes performances since the Pompeii days.
Eric Clapton was on Tv last night and I was thinking, David G is as good as Eric, two different styles, but Eric is very calm and David seems nervous in front of the audience. He always did appear that way I think that makes a huge difference.
Well David's been my fav for many years now, so even though Eric is great, I myself prefer David's playing. He just seems to be a bit shy, but he brings more emotion. But that's just MHO.
sounds like my life in the 70s .kicking around ona piece of ground in your home town, waiting forsomeone orsomething toshow youthe way. right on the pulse of englands lost and downtroddenyouth! oppressed beyond belief!
Yes, Yes, great art is usually beyond one's ability to describe, when one knows what it is, but greater is the heart that glows with purity and talent....
Time is incredibly gracious to Gilmour. To that end, in light of all the good Gilmour has done for humanity, I offer the last words of the last poem written by Gilmour's fellow chap, W.H. Auden :
"What they call History is nothing to vaunt of, being made, as it is, by the criminal in us: goodness is timeless." Amen.
You all can hate my comment but is true, read the books and watch the clips. this song was, as most of the Dark side, Roger Waters idea. the whole show was called eclipse before they recorded the album.
You are correct that the idea behind Dark Side was Waters', but ideas can only go so far, and without David's music (for he and Wright wrote most of the actual music, Waters' did lyrics), it really wouldn't have been nearly as much as it was. (Think Final Cut; it was primarily a Waters' solo album, and it wasn't exactly a mega-hit)
I agree with you chichip...in fact most people seem to believe that dave was the focal point of PF...not so, it was roger and not just lyrics either...roger owned the animals, dark side.., and of course the Wall and much more..dave was just a great executioner!
pretty much indeed... but Aigan has an interesting point. So does dallaskass. But, as you said, The dark Side was Water's idea, but that idea could never become reality in the perfectly way today is if there hadn't been a whole team of friends, professionals and musicians behind it... And, as everyone helps, in the end, your idea wasn't that much yours, and that, my friend, is how a band should be.
Played bass on The Wall too. DSOTM was a joint musical effort and IMO the best. My God, listen to David and Richard in their 60's and sounding that good !!!!
I'm gay for Gilmour just as much as the next fan...though, Roger deserves a lot of credit...not to mention Syd as he was essentially the muse of much of their inspiration...though, they were all Pink Floyd...
admiro a pink floyd por que empezaron sin saber musica ni equipo y trscendieron son my fuente de inspiracion par5a seguir adelante en mi musica y quedar marcado en la historia
Remember that night - David Gilmour - Live at the Royal Albert Hall. It's a really great piece of music, and i dare to say that in this concert Gilmour is better than in PULSE, which is quite amazing.
gilmour voice was a little bit used at this point, I prefer much more coming back to life, seems like he sang many songs before this one, but still love it, he song from his heart not from his diafragma, and thats mouch more better, hes voice reach our heart
This is like the 3rd song on the DVD, so not used (perhaps not warmed up yet if anything). I think his voice sounds better than it did on the original recording - very confident, knows when to hit the right inflections. He's aged like wine vocally. So I totally disagree...
If David's voice seems "a bit used" as you said: (A) This is one of David's grittier vocal pieces, like Young Lust and Money, and (B) David was 60 years old here -- so yes, the voice ages too.
the original sounds so much more sinister

you are right

You are correct that the idea behind Dark Side was Waters', but ideas can only go so far, and without David's music (for he and Wright wrote most of the actual music, Waters' did lyrics), it really wouldn't have been nearly as much as it was. (Think Final Cut; it was primarily a Waters' solo album, and it wasn't exactly a mega-hit)

I agree with you chichip...in fact most people seem to believe that dave was the focal point of PF...not so, it was roger and not just lyrics either...roger owned the animals, dark side.., and of course the Wall and much more..dave was just a great executioner!

yeah but this video is bout david not roger boy

pretty much indeed... but Aigan has an interesting point.

It's too bad Waters got obsessed with control after The Wall...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The original idea of this song, words and most of the music is from Roger Waters.

Well, on nearly all recorded output -- on their albums sold in stores worldwide ... it was DAVID playing bass, not Roger!
So I guess that makes them even, then? Hmph!
KarmicOmen 2 years ago 4
Played bass on The Wall too. DSOTM was a joint musical effort and IMO the best. My God, listen to David and Richard in their 60's and sounding that good !!!!

Its Richard Wrights vocals that make this song so great. He is the best member of the band. he is Pink. RIP

New to Pink Floyd are ya?
magickjac 2 years ago
Richard Wright is an amazing and essential part of Pink Floyd, but David Gilmour is Pink Floyd
wickerman2028 2 years ago
I'm gay for Gilmour just as much as the next fan...though, Roger deserves a lot of credit...not to mention Syd as he was essentially the muse of much of their inspiration...though, they were all Pink Floyd...

Remember that night - David Gilmour - Live at the Royal Albert Hall. It's a really great piece of music, and i dare to say that in this concert Gilmour is better than in PULSE, which is quite amazing.
Ciao!

se les tonaba la los años , con escuchar la voz tan cambiada de gilmour y rick. pero aun asi siguen siendo los mejores, ...rick R.I.P
jonnybraindead 3 years ago
gilmour voice was a little bit used at this point, I prefer much more coming back to life, seems like he sang many songs before this one, but still love it, he song from his heart not from his diafragma, and thats mouch more better, hes voice reach our heart
boltorazio 3 years ago
This is like the 3rd song on the DVD, so not used (perhaps not warmed up yet if anything). I think his voice sounds better than it did on the original recording - very confident, knows when to hit the right inflections. He's aged like wine vocally. So I totally disagree...
twincitybutcher 3 years ago 4
If David's voice seems "a bit used" as you said: (A) This is one of David's grittier vocal pieces, like Young Lust and Money, and (B) David was 60 years old here -- so yes, the voice ages too.
