why a conductor?

they have lars, and im pretty sure its not that hard to keep a beat, after all they are professional musicians. i dont understand.

@Downthebarrel357 even though lar's a great drummer a symphony needs a conductor to keep the timing for them there are also bits where lars doesnt play and the symphony need the time to be kept. as an orchestral percussionist and a drummer in a band on the side i know.

Couldn't have said it better. The one thing I'll add is the fact that Lars is sitting in front of the main orchestra. If they depended solely on him for timing, they'd be off due to echo of the drums off of the sides and back walls of the theater. The conductor keeps everyone, including Lars, in time regadless of what beat they here wherever they're sitting. I've got 20 years of band (bass guitar) and orchestra (viola) playing experience. Conductors are vital.

@ChocolateTundra Well, in this release of the DVD of S&M, there is a special feature where you can show only camera angles of certain people like certain members of Metallica or Michael Kamen, so I think this is the feature showing only Mr. Kamen. :)
