Both HP and LOTR books are spectacular (movies too). So stop being idiots and stop complaining. They are completely different and both deserve credit for the creativity of their authors.
LOTR is undoubtably better in terms of composition, the invented languages, allusions. Harry Potter is more accessible today because of its more modern language. I prefer LOTR personally.
@TheDazaniel i think it has something to do with how he poured his life source, his power and his cruelty into the ring, and so once that is removed from saurons body, he would collapse. Dont quote me on this but this is what i think. =D
1) Sauron had already lost his physical body before this battle in the sinking of Numenor.
2) It actually took Isildur, Gil-Galad, Elrond, Elendil, and the entire army to kill Sauron, not just Isildur getting lucky and slicing off Sauron's fingers.
3) Sauron picked up Gil-Galad and sets him on fire with the heat of his hands.
i just realised all sauron had to was smash isildors face in with his mace instead he wanted to be cliche and lift him up by his throat jeez sauron is stupid

"Mr Sauron. It is purpose that created us, that guides us, that binds us. It is purpose that defines us. That's why the rest of me are just going to enjoy the show, because we already know, I'm the one that beats you." -Agent Smith, fuck yeah
wait this makes no sense at 2:13 you clearly see sauron's ring on the hand he holds the mace and again at 2:27 and when he gets his fingers cut off his mace is in his other hand what did he just go hey I should put my mace in my other hand and reach out to grab Isildor man being that stupid he deserves to lose
According to the books, they did. The movie just didn't show it. Also, the book didn't have Sauron dying so easily after getting his fingers cut off. Sauron was killed the old fashion way after killing most of the heros and setting the elven high king Gil-galad on fire.
@McVitiesmuffinjohn The dwarfs didn't care enough if I remember right. And he had to put his everything into the ring because it was designed to rule over the other 19 rings, not an easy task when faced against the likes of Gil Galad, Cirdan and Galadriel.
I love Lord of the Rings so much I put my PS3 user ID as sauron, I think he's the same as Hitler just wants to dominate the world and make it horrible.
One of the best openings to a film ever. I saw this when I was young. 14 years old and I had never read the books so I had no idea about it. This clued me in quickly and easily.
um...I'm pretty sure it was called the last alliance of elves and man, not the other way around. And why do they never mention the Dwarves? no wonder dwarves are so grumpy...
@Cranium10000 me too..I must say my favorite movie of the 3 is The fellowship of the ring because in my opinion is mostly story telling and less war and I like that.
@Lijnie235 Sauron's spirit and armor(since there was no body within his armor) was extremely hot and he was going to burn Isildur alive, like he had done to Gil-Galad. They were going to put the scene of Gil-Galad's death in the movie, but didn't, I'm not sure why, because it would have cleared things up for people who didn't read the book. But yeah, he was going to pick him up by the neck and burn him, which is a much worse death than being smashed by a mace and dying instantly.
@Lijnie235 "Gil-Galad was an Elven-King. Of him the harpers sadly sing: the last whose realm was fair and free between the Mountains and the Sea. His sword was long, his lance was keen, his shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven's field were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago he rode away, and where he dwelleth none can say; for into darkness fell his star in Mordor where the shadows are."
He was the elven high king of the land of Lindon... he was the son of Fingon the Valiant, son of Fingolfin, son of Finwë, first High King of the Noldor. Other sources and versions of the text however, indicate Gil-galad is the Son of Orodreth of the House of Finarfin. This would make him grandson of Angrod, the brother of Finrod Felagund and Galadriel. It is through this descent that his High-kingship of the Noldor is explained...
