  • There is a LOT wrong with this video aside from the comments about the drivers' weight. For starters, they should not be yanking on the reins, they are hurting their mouths. They should not be cantering around out of control and the footing makes it 10x harder for the minis to pull their drivers. I'm sure on firm level ground they could pull these people but I would never expect any of my minis to pull that much weight. It's obvious to anyone that these babies are struggling :(

  • Minis were originally used to haul coal out of coal mines because of their small size and study builds. They can pull nearly 5 to 10 times their weight, not carry it on their backs. Obviously, sure, some people think its mean but they're stronger than they really look. I'm not obese, but, these are minis, people. They were MADE to pull.

  • @16gleelover Yeah, but on sand?

  • why is it that fat people have mini ponies??

when I brought my mini me and my friends jokes that I was going to gain 30 kilos!

....I'm sorry but there is no way to justify it what so ever! if your fat...go loose weight then you can start driving mini's/ riding horses.

  • Rotten job. As others already said, some people are too heavy but I also see drivers using the lines as a kind of whip. DON'T DO THAT!! You're hurting the pony's mouth doing that. And where are the long whips? No driver should be without a whip (and no, it's not to beat the shit out of the pony but for signing). Look at 1.30 minutes. The little white one is exhausted having to pull that weight (and yes, I'm overweight too so I know NOT to do this) .

  • Honestly the should be driving B sized minis or a small shetland. Its is obvious the minis are struggling to pull the weight. Either the minis are out of shape or the riders are too heavy, but this shouldn't continue.

  • that was a mess why did they do that. was it suppose to be them just running around crazy.

It pisses me of there are so many people commenting om the weight of the drivers. At least there getting up and doing something not just siting around. some people just sit inside doing nothing getting fatter. So stop complaining about the ones that are getting out.

  • it figures that all the ponies are being driven by fat people

  • I not trying to be mean, but i hate seeing people driving miniture ponies it constantly drives me nuts! I think your better off using like through breeds and craft horses.

  • ponies are strong, they can pull like twice their own weight.. but yeah.. i am a driver of ponies and racehorses - it makes me soooo angry to see people driving like this, fair enough i do give them a SMALL wack on the bum, but that is just to get them from a walk once we get on the track. i hate seeing people wack poor little ponies do this :/

  • Bad drivers. You DO NOT whap the pony/horse on the ass with the reins. What are they connected to? Your hands and the BIT. Whapping and jostling the reins clanks the bit against the horse's teeth and bars. Couple of the drivers were doing ok, but there's a whole lot of asshattery going on here with regards to the mini's comfort.

  • @SaraSindari Exactly.

  • Oh! That poor white mini! That fat woman is just whipping the mini to faster when its trying. If your mini can't pull you then it a sign to either get a bigger horse or lose weight if you wanna keep the mini!!!

  • Fat people dont ride or drive horses

  • @horseboy420 Depends on how big the horse is, but this combination is ridiculous.

  • stupid fat ppl drving little horses.......poor little guys! 8(

  • The idea was great but the execution was just not right... Driving a horse (no matter the size of it) shoud be done just as gentle and with just as consistent and correct aids as when riding one. Half of the ponies in this vid didn't know what to do half of the time and one really struggled with pulling the cart. Not pleasant for the ponies and not very pleasant to watch either... :/

  • I agree showring, but come one, it's not hurtful. Anyone can easily see that lady was wayyyyyy TOO FAT to have that mini hauling her around...cruel!

  • @HRqrtrhrslvr

the problem isn't the weight of the driver, the problem is the footing. Most riding rings are not suitable for driving horses. Deep foot creates drag on the wheels. Take these carts and minis out to a hard packed surface and they would fly. And I'm also against breast collars since they trap a mini horse's shoulder. Mine did much better when switched to a neck collar and axle draft.

  • @blkequus What you say may be true, as footing affects many events. I've owned and shown QH's all my life and there are horses of all different sizes that someone can be too big to be on their back...or in this case, pulling them. Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. I think for humane reasons there IS a limit to what those minis should have to pull around, just as a younger horse or smaller horse shouldn't be overburdened with someone that is too heavy.

  • @HRqrtrhrslvr Do you know anything about driving? Did you know that a horse can pull twice his weight? Driving works best on a hard flat surface. But deep footing doubles the weight. So these minis probably pull just fine at home. I know mine does. Pulls like a freight train and had no trouble going 5K at the National Drive. Looks are very deceptive when it comes to minis. They are far stronger than you realize.

  • Minis should only be pets. Not a form of transportation! I would never haul one around at my size.

  • @roselman1

My mini is an awesome driving horse. He did 5K at the KHP and never even broke a sweat. It all comes down to conditioning and proper harnessing.

  • @blkequus I wasn't trying to emply that you can't ride them, I just myself prefere to keep them as pets. I dont' so much mind cart riding as actually sitting on the horse.

  • JEEZ!!! Some of these people are too FAT for those minis!!! It looks like the draft horse pull at the fair!!

  • wow people....really? 1 overweight person and its all bad? do u see any of these ponies struggling to to much? yes she may be over weight but the pony doesnt look like its cantering to and putting in a back breaking effort.

y is it that when people decide to have fun with horses every watches the videos and tells them how wrong they r?

  • adding to this discussion for what it is worth.1) when a cart is balanced correctly there is no weight on the back or bottom of the chest,.2) driving hands should be as quiet as riding hands because all that movement goes right to the mouth,3)their ancestors were bred for pulling orr in mines, so they are way stronger than one would expect,4)any horse , whatever size, should be in fit condition for whatever the discipline,5) i do not understand the need for name calling seen so much....

  • poor ponies.... sigh

  • Poor little guys. They shouldn't be abused like that, yanking on the reins. That makes me sad.

  • They look soo cute!

  • I went through weight loss just so I could drive my mini. I'm still not a size 0, but I checked with so many trainers and you would be surpprised what they can haul. You know they use to be pit ponys.

  • Looks like a gas !

  • I don't mean to sound hurtful, but it absolutely saddens me to see very overweight people driving minis. The white mini was obviously struggling to cart that woman around. It's just not right. Someone who is obese should drive larger horses.

  • Very true. I was at a weight loss camp and they took us horseback riding, but we rode heavy horses. There is also a certain weight now think it was something like, your weight and the equipment on the horse shouldn't be over 200 lbs combined otherwise it is harmful for the horses back.

  • @ShowRingPhotography i agree the little white one has to have like a 100pound women on the reins.

  • I agree swiftpaint2000..people should enjoy their horses, but make the sacrifice necessary to be fair to your horses.

Or, get a horse an appropriate size for you.

  • @ShowRingPhotography no kidding!!! seriously think about the horses!!!

  • @ShowRingPhotography horses and ponies can pull 6x there weight but only carry 1/5 of theirs, each pony is probably 300+ pounds its not bad they just need to drive them better

  • @Kaylagirl1238 That depends on what pony it is. You can't use that for all the horses, especially for mini's like this.

  • @Saartje05 okay

  • If you watch the pure brown mini it looks so angree when hes trying to turn(mini rear)

  • i understand that they r pulling on there ponis mouths but what else r they to do when there horse is scard and energettic in the show ring its not like they can stop and lead them around!!!

  • I drive two minis (VSEs) ADT and combined driving, and several of our competitors are members of MiniMystique Drill team. One just doesn't see this sort of hauling around in either sport.

  • they are terrible drivers. They are really yanking on those ponies mouths.

And that poor little brown and white one having to haul round that fat lump aswell as being roughly treated.

  • @no1horselover You are a ugly spirited person. who are you? are you a champion driver. you obviously lack integrety and honor

  • omg i do this on my pony but i actually race him on big race nights ...such as the auckland cup....

  • What's worst than a heavy handed driver?

    Five of them!

Properly trained mini's don't gallop or canter in harness.

Properly trained drivers don't slap the horses back with the reins.

  • I wonder if the minis have any teeth?

Some of the drivers are pretty hard on there minis mouth.

    Shame on them!

  • Oh there so cute I want one

  • I think I see a horse we might buy!

  • Some of the drivers seemed a bit heavy on the ponie's mouths

  • That's great! I may be mistaken, but I think the horse in the very beginning of the video is my mini!

  • The horse in the beginning is Dream Weaver's Sample The Wild Thing, A.K.A. "Skip" and that is my daughter, Jessa, at the whip!
