@steverid Honestly, I have nothing against Swedes. My cousin spent the last 5+ years living there, and many of my close friends are swedish. However, I am a history major, with an emphasis on the vikings, their origins,trade,conquest,etc. And when you say the the largest hordes of viking raids, do you mean raiders or those people who had their lands/belongings plundered? If you are tlaking about the coins and artifacts found there, then you are mistaken, as those have been attributed to traders.

Visby, the Hanseatic trading village during those times was of course the center of all trade throughout the Baltic. Yes, many coins etc... have been found there from all over the world. But every year some small farmer plowing his property will find an actual horde/cache. All over the island

Have you ever checked out Uppsala just above Stockholm? There are 3 huge burial mounds to Swedish viking Kings and at the foot of one of the mounds is the Viking museum. The Swedes "contribution" so to speak to Viking history & culture cannot be disputed. I have nothing but the utmost admiration of my forefathers. Also, the geographic boundaries during that time frame were pretty blurry & interchangeable so it's hard to say who was Danish/Swedish/Norwegian etc... All Scandinavian blood is intermixed with other Scan peoples.

the viking did NOT have horns on there helmets however they did commonly make the sounds of animals in battle including bulls,so it is easy to see why other cultures would think they were devils and depict them with horns,the only culture that really EVER wore horns were the Early period Celts and only in religious ceremonies and were normally deer or stag antlers
