Furthermore Themis711. As for plants 'clearing the air' I'm afraid it isn't that simple. Radiation isn't like carbon dioxide (which plants do clear the air of) and if a plant absorbs radiation then that plant will be radioactive and dangerous. The area will not be safe enough for humans to live in for hundreds if not thousands of years. You are right that most naturally occuring species of animals don't rely on humans and if we become extinct, yes life will probably go on like it did before us.
I just said what i saw on a documentary on history channel. As for radiation clearing the air, i said ''some scientists say'', and as for animals, its proven from scientists & people who venture to the area, and if you dont believe me just google it. Maybe you should notice more carefully what you comment, the details make the difference.
Whats most amazing is that you would expect the entire chernobyl area to be completely deserted from any form of life. But animals and plants thrive to the area despite of the radiation, there are wild horses, wolfs, birds. And a large variety of plants. The miracle of life, radiation seems to have no impact on plants and certain animals. Some scientists say that plants are clearing radiation from the air. Even if men gets extinct life will go on.
What evidence is there of horses and wolves living in the immediate area? It's true that many forms of plants and animals like living in the area as there is no human activity and they have life spans that are short enough for them still to pro-create before radiation poisoning kills them. A horse or wolf lives for a long time and would be subject to the same symptoms of radiation poisoning as a human, therefore I fail to see how such animals would thrive there?
there are still animals and people out there, there are safe zones and the safe zones are becoming bigger, I personnaly watched a documentary on the tv, it was about scientists working on the actual power plant where it occurred, on it you can see the birds and animals that live there.
It's very very complex, but in short, it can cause DNA in cells to get fucked up. This can cause short-term illness, (acute radiation poisoining) because tons of your cells just die, or long term effects, such as cancer or mutations in your offspring, because your DNA has become corrupted.
the combination of radition, the presure to clean it but the desire of getting the hell out of there. Oh and a hard to see crane cable at the pilots blind spot.

How about a BLADE STRIKE? Radiation had NO direct impact on that accident. The pilot got too close to that crane and a main rotor blade made contact.
