there are 9 stages of the test of valor each has a achievment first one is at chapter 3 as you can see from vid and you get rod of trials in second chapter when you go to that sqaure were there is a small shrine with non lit candles defeat all enemies there candles will light up hop over the fene and press rb to pick it up and there you go you have rod of trials hope it helps ;)
i love how critical people are of other peoples game play, this is NINJA GAIDEN 2 it doesn't matter what difficulty you play it on you will get sliced up alot because the AI in this game is retarded
To tell the truth, I didn't face any problems while playing path of the worrior. But in the mentor... its hard to keep up with those enemies, its hard to stay calm for the end of the test. i on't know what to do, but I know I can do it someday.

I beaten this game sooo many times (including the path of master ninja). I now noticed that you have to have the staff in order to enter the test of valor. I resarted the entire game, but even with the staff I still cannot enter the test of valor. Does it mean I have to do it on the first gameplay, first time? Thanks I really apprieciated.
Thanks man. I just found out that in the big area in chapter 2, you have to fight as many enemies until the candles light up , then you get the trial of rods. I'm pretty much finished with NG2 (including completing Master Ninja mode). All I need to do is learn how to get the achievements on weapons. Thanks.
its not the lunar staff u need u need the warrior or rod or whatever its called u get it in chapter 2 u kill all the monsters in a area i forgot and they give you the path to the rod and the test are opens have fun hope it helped :P

if you get hit by an incendry suriken then wait a second while its stuck to you then do the quick step move and it will blow up but not hurt you... practice it and not so many will blow you up if your good then none of them will

They should be on by default. If they're not go into options and it should be obvious how to turn them on. Pressing the "Select" button in game should show you the options to change too.
i remember how easy this was. now i have to deal with things exploding around me every .1 seconds. i was around 7 minutes on the mentor tov and then i got pwned by a martyr, IS , and a magician using nosdiga at the same time.
Well you get whatever item is in the chest at the end of the Test. Usually its a Lives of the Thousand Gods, Jewel of the Demon Seal, or Talisman of Rebirth. Also you get an Xbox360 Achievement for each Test.
the portal is found in a big room where you fight those big Bat-demon beings the have to jump up a rock stairway to an opening where there a rock bridge. Save statue on the right and the test on the left.
This vid is alright but the falcon claws level 2 are the best for close combat with ninjas since they tear apart easily, you can dodge with the forward + light attack to slice people up and move all over the place to dodge everything. Ultimate technique is a must for cash and kill cutscenes
Uh, thanks for the input I guess. I'm not a big fan of the Falcon's Claws by the way, I just don't like the feel of them. Also I'm well aware of the Ultimate Technique.
i love playing test of valors on acolyte and warrior but when i go to mentor everything's changed man the archers become rocket launchers, the claw peoples use explosives... damn i dont think i can beat the game on mentor ..
Yup, its at the end of Chapter 3 near the last save point right before boss battle. This was on Warrior mode, by the way, dunno if that makes a difference.
You have to learn to counter attack. That won't cut it if you are doing a harder difficulty.

Also- it is impossible to complete Chapter 2 without picking up the staff. So your theory is redundant.
