At first I thought you had the same 3 amps I have but I couldnt see the Krank well enough, instead of the Krank I have Bogber Uberschall Engl Fireball Mark V some dual rectifiers and a new Randall RT503 50watt that I love. My Mark V has been in the shop 3 times for a month each time and its messed up again, I got it back 3 days ago.

I use an MXR M109 EQ pedal to bring my blue stripe Mark III to life, and its brutal as all hell. Keep rocking the Mesa's! BTW, is that a SST or a Revolution cab? -Jay

Having metal gain on dropped tunings is pretty easy to obtain, definately in dropped chord chops.
What modern amps today improved on is overall high gain, I own a Mesa III, Uberschall, SLO100 and 5150. The 5150 in particular is very good at making solo's sound really thick and distorted while the Mesa really lets out on this point. Soldano makes the sweeps come more to life where mesa fails...
But in general a good metal tone has more to do with EQ than High Gain, its all in the V ;)
See thats what I'm taking about.Mesa was making these kind of amps 25 years ago....................All the other amp companys are just a cop off................
I agree. That's why I own my purple stripe Mark lll Coliseum series head. The only thing I did was replace the 6L6 tubes with JJ Electronic KT88 tubes. Brutal!
hey i have the same amp and would really like to know what your settings are. Also, do you have active pickups on that guitar?
