@Bobbyboy5000 Actually that's not the real reason why he's going mad, 1) Anglo - French relations have been bad for hundreds of years, read about the wars 2) Gordon worked in French kitchen for 3 years and got "anilalated" - he was bullied and humiliated daily - you think ramsay is bad then go to french kitchens, they make ramsay look like snow white 3) Ramsay had a though upbrining and has a lot of anger from that and hence he loves to lash out, he's a lot more mellow now though.

I'm a little surprised/shocked at the amount of people who in fact defend Ramsay whole-heartedly. The French chef did indeed come across exceedingly arrogantly during this episode, this is true, but it is fairly obvious that Ramsay overstepped the boundary. To defend how he behaves is absurd, regardless of how justified you might deem his anger to be.
Furthermore, comments posted by people such as CaptainKubla do nothing but portray British people as franco- and indeed xenophobes.

Yes - I am indeed British. There's a difference between xenophobia and humour based on the differences between countries. You might say it's subtle, but there is still a difference.

The Hitler argument doesn't really hold very firm, I'm afraid.
You can't really have "good" xenophobia. It is defined as a hatred or fear, above all, of strangers of foreigners. Making a light-hearted joke about Anglo-French relationships, for example, isn't really comparable with a hatred/fear of strangers of foreigners. Such jokes can be made without being xenophobic.

And yes you can have good xenephobia, it's what helped breed the wonderful nationalism movements of the nineteenth and twentieth century. A helathy dose can be beneficial. Of course xenephobia is often a very bad thing as well, i'm just expressing an alternative perspective. Please follow my argument more closely.

Also, can xenophobia really create nationalist movements that overthrow oppressive regimes, for example? Contempt for oppressors is logical - but that is unrelated to xenophobia as there, it's scarcely an irrational fear/hatred of what is "foreign". So please expand your "wonderful nationalism" point.

Again, you're comfused, or maybe you just don't know what nationalism means... it is the movement towards forging a nation, sometimes brought about by an irrational fear of what is foreign. Germany 1871, Bismarck lied to the people of the german states about France's conduct, and creatred an irrational fear. Which culminated with the nation of germany being created.
