Working out at home, I barely train my legs (which probably explains why I have such sparrow stalks =P). Thing is, most of the leg exercises I knew required gym equipment, and the ones that didn't weren't very effective so far. But thanks to you, thats hopefully about to change =)
Hey Lee, this is kind of off topic to the video but I read your article about body shaving and I shaved my legs but when the hair grew back I got a lot of ingrown hairs on my thighs and they left dark marks can you please give me some tips on how to get rid of these I cant do laser treatment or anything. Thanks!
i train legs once a week but i also do cardio every day either on an elyptical, running or biking so my legs stay strong by only training them once a week
Lee, I train my legs every week! I actually love doing leg extensions and leg curls but the only thing I hate in leg training is the pain you get in your butt and hamstring when you do a deep squat :)
I train my legs with weights at least once a week, sometimes 2. I also do sprints once a week and do plyometrics later on in the week.
In the old days I didn't really train my lower body much apart from cycling and I used to have lower back pain. However, since training my legs a lot more frequently I no longer have any problems with aching lower back. Legs are awesome
You can make gains with body weight moves. But eventually you'll plateau and need to follow a more intense training routine with weight training. Bottom line, everything works, but nothing works forever. So when you plateau with your current routine, it's time to change things up.
Hello Lee, when I workout I do 4 sets on most of my exercises, should I finish the 4 sets before I move onto something else? I always wondered if I should start on the next exercise then back to the first one and do my 2nd set instead of doing all 4 sets then move onto the next. Let's say I do the normal bench press with 4 sets, should I finish them instead of moving onto decline bench and maybe do 1 set then back to normal benchpress? Anyone who got an idea could give me the answer, thanks :)
When I'm doing lighter workouts (such as this one) I often do them in a fast paced circuit, moving from one exercise to the next with little rest in between. But when I'm doing a "normal gym workout" with heavier weights I'll do straight sets (i.e. complete all my sets for one exercise before moving on to the next exercise).
@leemhayward Excellent, thank you! I really appreciate your videos. Been looking at many different bodybuilders but must say you're my favourite. I'm pretty sure people gives you the thumbs up for answering their questions.
Doing high rep body weight workouts such as I've posted in the "Jungle Muscle Workouts" doing these exercises in a fast paced circuit will get your heart pumping and allow you to work up a good sweat.
In addition to that you can do jumping jacks, jump rope, burpees, shadow boxing (like boxers do), etc. basically you just need to keep moving and get your heart rate elevated to get good cardio workout.
Lee, I have 2 questions. No 1. I've had surgery on my right knee some years ago and it limits my flexabilty. Is there any way I can work around that or sound I can get the full gain as my left leg? No.2 I work out at least six days with 3 days of weights and the other 3 is boxing training(no weights)alternating days. Is that to many days?
You can experiment with the various leg machines at the gym and see what moves you can do without causing pain to your knee. Do some leg exercises for light sets of high reps every second day. Over time you'll feel your strength and flexibility improving, it could take several weeks (or even several months). But if you keep consistent with it you'll see improvements.
The key to working around injuries is listening to your body and working within your pain threshold.
heyyy lee,,i've one question for you..''am only 17 years old and it has been 10 months since i have started going to gym''so wat do you advised me is it good or bad as lots of people say its not good for me as i am too young to start going there..so all i need is your help..''wat do you advise me????????
I started working out when I was 12 years old, so you are definitely not "too young" to workout at 17 years old. If anyone is telling you that you are too young they are probably not very knowledgeable about bodybuilding and weight training. You have to be careful with who's advice you take.
I make it a habit to do one lower body exercise every time I go to the gym, doing this allows me to cut one visit a week to the gym, I do the same with abdominal. I go monday through thursday, so I do squats, leg extensions, hamstring machine and the sitting calve machine(hate the standing calve machine). Also spreading it out helps me not get too crippled when I get a little too over zealous and hit any particular lower body muscle.
Nice, might I also suggest Mike Tyson's? The alternating jump lunges, those are great burnouts. I train my legs once a week, though I will warm up with leg press on other days, and I run 2-3x a week
Do u have a leg workout video for the gym. I am struggling to find a balance with my leg workouts. I always feel like if I don't do a lot of sets and reps on legs I'm not working hard enough. What is appropriate for a 1 hour workout.
I absolutely HATE doing my legs. I have my own gym at home and because of this I'm limited to leg curls and squats. Three sets of weighted squats, three sets of leg curls, three more sets of weighted squats and a single burnout set of leg curls 40 reps. This routine feels just as effective as the standard squats, leg curls, leg extentions & leg presses routine that I used to do at the gym. But with all of the squats it really sucks the energy out.
Hey Lee, I work out legs twice a week. Fo example: Monday-Biceps and Back/ Tuesday-Triceps, Shoulders and Chest/ Wednesday-Legs/ Thursday-Biceps and Back/ Friday-Triceps, Shoulders and Chest/ Saturday-Legs/ Sunday- REST. What do you think?
It's a good split, but you may want to try adding in more rest days. I recommend working out for no more then 2 days on before taking a day off. This will help you maximize your recovery and make better gains in the long term.
Lee, u must have great genetics for calves..cuz they are freaking huge!! My upper body is big, but I have chicken legs LOL. Am I just stuck with bad genetics for calves, or can I actually get them big enough so that they dont look like toothpicks? It seems like they will never grow :(
Genetics do play a big part, but regardless of genetics, improvement is always possible. Just search my leg workout playlist, the link is in the description of this video. You'll see that I have some videos just on calve training that you should watch.
Love walking lunges! The gym I go to, I would say I am the only one who does them. I do an hour of cardio 3-4 times per week, and have legs built into my weekly routine. I used to do heavy legs but I am now into more my own body weight training. I want to be leaner and as you know, heavy training with legs will build muscle mass on you. cheers
I train legs twice a week. Pause Squats + Good Mornings one day, then Deadlifts and Front Squats on another. Usually plus one or two isolations for the hams/glutes at the moment.
Great Video Lee, you and Trish got these exercise video's down to a T.. The backdrop, the clear presentation of exercise and explanations. Great Job... I do full leg workouts on Thursday's, but I incororate isolation exercise during the week for weak leg parts. I share your site, tips and video's with family and friends, so they can see how it is done by the pro's.. Keep those video's coming Lee, You and Trish make an Awesome Team. Stay Strong.. Herc.
i do full body training 3 times a week and always focus on legs. i also do kettlebell/sandbag training for more conditioning 2 timesa week where my legs also get worked a lot
Lee where are you on holiday here? the place looks so secluded.
On another note, I remember a few years ago when I didn't have any real equipment to do squats with, I used to do what I can only describe as jumping squats. I would go down as if doing a normal squat and then explode up and jump in to the air, I used to think it was a pretty good substitute for the squat what do you think Lee?
dumb ass dont talk when u dont understand exercise physiology, any exercise you do will use energy which may lead to fat burning depending on how physically conditioned you are.
When I was travelling earlier this year I worked up to doing 250 air squats (bodyweight squats) in one set, no pause. If you dont think bodyweight training can give results try high volume like that, or 10 sets of 25 or 50 if you cant do so many in one set. Sissy squats and pistols also rock.
These days I train legs two or three times a week, using squats, front squats, deadlift and clean almost exclusively.
I train quads once a week with squats and leg press. Calves I train once every 4 or 5 days but alternate between soleus and gastroc workouts - they're my weakest part :-(
@Mesa4Life hey dude, i think i think secret to great calves is long term training, i have the worst calves in the world, especially since i had surgery and my calves have been cut and all, but just puts years and years of training and great calves will come.. genetics plays a part of what your calves will look like, but u can push them to their full potential!
I do my legs every Wednesday.. Start of with a light jog to warm up.. Then we do 50metre lunges with sand bags on our backs x 3... then straight into 50metre sprints x 10.. Then we do 3 sets of box jumps.. and finish off with mountain climbers... Leaves me walking like John Wayne for a few days afterwards.. :)
Since I'm living out in Thailand right now i wake up and do my body weight upper body exercise in the morning, protein and carb up after then before dinner i do my legs and ab body weight exercise, then protein carb up again. My leg routine pretty much matches up with yours! :) But ill try to go for total 100 reps now for each from now on.

If you do high volume leg workouts you can still get a good leg workout. If you want a challenge try doing 500 or 1000 total reps of body weight squats and I bet your legs will be painfully sore the next day.
