Takes me back--this was the music that my high school used as the graduation march. It was great to have something different than the usual Pomp and C.
It's hard to hear it and not remember the memorable "The Abominable Dr. Phibes" opening scene where Phibes [ beautifully played by Vincent Price] comes up from the ground while performing this song on a stetically '70s organ.
It is still is THE graduation recessional. A real commencement excercise will play this great tune and I cry everytime I hear it in the capacity. SO anticipating May 15, 2009
I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, hence my loyalty to the greatest professional football team ever. I went to school in California and relocated to Hawaii in 1992 - shortly after the LA riots (Rodney King beating aquittals) - I wanted to "get out of harm's way".
not bad

A super piece of music, and Vincent Price in the film, what with his voice-box and frightening looks!

I have put an excellent audio version of this piece on my youtube site Nicholas Kynaston is a brilliant organist. Have a listen...........

Wonderful. I really wonder if the composers had any idea that their music would live on like this,

I don't care how many notes you got wrong (what wrong notes??), the sheer presence and timbre of this performance are second to *none*. Perfect!

And the split seconds where the music still plays despite Price's hands not touching the keys. *lol*
Bobzeaux 2 years ago
That's the most beautiful part of it! lol Price was a demon, he could do that! lol

"The... doctors all... said that I... couldn't play without... touching.. the keys... They were of course WRONG!" >:)

@livingElvis The memory is inescapable of the great Vincent Price's rendition , he did it so over the top it was brilliant!.
Doesn't the piece drift in to Twinkle, twinkle little star though?.

I liked the bit at about 2:30-2:45 where the assistant tried to turn back to the skipped page; the organist handeled (pun intended) it well.
winston5610 3 years ago
Halarious! You have someone changing the page for you. I didn'y realize that there were four "keyboards" on that thing. How do you do it, UK?

One of my favourite organ pieces; perfectly sums-up the 'God of Abraham' who glorifies himself on war and unending pain.
America should drop the 'Star-spangled Banner' and adopt this as its national anthem!

It wasn't that many years ago that that was THE graduation recessional.

Someone played this organ in 1988 and the sound was not impressive.
Beautiful rendition.
