scott steiner is probably the best wrestler of all time, and i'm not afraid to say it.
it's easy for people to look at him now, and laugh at everything he does. but this guy was an animal, and an innovator. the steiner screwdriver, the frankensteiner, etc...he was a mad genius.
Ive seen Rick attempt this before too... I believe it was on one of the Public Enemy in ECW.... sloppy and botched he looked like he literally killed the guy...
This is the kind of thing that makes me grimace in real life to see. WWE doesn't ever make me do that (well, ECW occasionally does). Which sucks, as it takes away part of the thrill and impressiveness of watching wrestling -- to see nasty looking moves happen, that look like they should end a person's career, but the guy is not really hurt.
but the risk is run of injury. so when a huge company rests on the health of their performers...not much can be done. this could fuck you up. i could understand very very strong spears or dumbass aggressive powerbombs... but this just exposes the neck too much. =(
this Scott Steiner and what he became (a total JOKE) are pretty much two 100% different people... THIS Scott Steiner was incredible, *that* Scott Steiner is a useless pile of steroid abusing crap
i agree man. scott steiner was a wrestling MACHINE back then. every move he did was a work of art IMO. when he started taking those steriods he became a big dope.
no hes an old man now. back around 1999- 2000 he was huge, quick and strong and twice the wrestler of anyone today. dont blame "steroids" for his inability these days.
they rushed his aging... just look at a guy like Ricky Steamboat and what he was able to do after YEARS of not performing...Steiner never stopped but he's been reduced to a joke and the main culprit is certainly steroid abuse. i WISH i didn't have to type something like that, but the truth is ugly =(
Thats a completely ignorant statement coming from someone who has absolutely no knowledge of anobilics. Pro athletes who abuse steroids for years dont even deteriorate as fast as Scott did. If you watch his earlier matches, the guy took millions of bumps doing aerial moves and slams 6 days a week for 20 years! thats insane, his body has taken a ton of abuse over the years.
yah but when you abuse them so heavily it's going to really limit you, that's why some other wrestlers in their later years were still able to do somethings while others couldn't. just look at someone like Lex Luger, but then look at someone like Curt Hennig when Curt was older he could still move pretty well, but Luger was rigor mortised in the ring.....
Your just singling out the guys that looked good. 99% of those guys back then were juicing, and alot of them are still fine today. Steiners high flying style made taking bumps inevitable and surgerys soon followed. His body broke down from some nasty injuries and combined with his age made him what he has turned into. Dont spew shit about steroids ruining lives on here pal, because its makes you look painfully naive about them, which you are.
look dude, i'm just saying there's a big difference between using and abusing, i'm aware that 99%of them used them, but not too many of them went off the deepend; of course i am singling some out, there aren't too many of them that ended up quite like Steiner! right or wrong for better or for worse it's how he ended up. not trying to be outright disrespectful, just saying...furthermore you have your thoughts-i have mine, better to simply agree to disagree and end the steroid back-n-forth here.
Aright, good rebuttal. Blame it on the injuries or blame it on "steroids". I can agree Steiner went from basically the most gifted athlete i've ever seen in pro wrestling to a broken down, uncoordinated botcher.
yah, i blame it on both. but i will add on a positive note that the stuff he and Rick did in the early 90's is some of the best american pro wrestlers had to offer, ...ever! absolutely untouchable class professional wrestling of the highest caliber - and there is NO argument there!
but stupid young redneck fans actually say he was never any good and HHH is better, it truly pains me to know people are that stupid. he was in a class by himself for real.
HHH could never do a 15th of the things Scott Steiner could and did, HHH is a self absorbed overrated *average* wrestler who simply took advantage of the right situations *groans* hardly ANYONE could top the things Scott Steiner did from 1990 to 1995, i wouldn't put HHH anywhere NEAR Scott in his prime!!!!
mcmahons doesn't let the real wrestlers do that because of the fuckin 12 belows who watch WWE.i want the R 13 attitude!(is attitude's rating 13 or 18?)
yeh as dsbnh said he doesnt let them do it cos of the serious risk involved, to my knowledge the undertaker and jerry lawler are the only ones in the wwe atm who is licensed to use the piledrive moves
attitude era was 14 generally on raw and sd but the ppv's were 15 minimum and usually 18-well in the uk rating system, i dont kno how this transfers into other countries
I was trying to reply to NYP619, but hit the freakin' spam button by mistake. Anyway...yeah he did it in TNA, but it's a day late and a dollar short. If he was doing it in 1989, 1990, 1991 etc I think he would have gotten over as a monster main event babyface. However, injuries, and dramatic changes to his body, and apparent attitude adjustments made the Scott Steiner of pre-1995 an entirely different wrestler than the one we see now adays.
just cause it's a too risky move, vince mcmhan only allows veterans to do risky moves that he knows they can perform perfectly, like undertakers tombstone. ever notice you don't see normal piledrivers in wwe at all?
If the American promotions would have allowed Scott Steiner to use the screwdriver rather than the frankensteiner as a finisher, I think he would have been pushed a lot harder a lot sooner, and it might have even changed the landscape of American pro wrestling.
For me this is the best finisher ever. Epically dangerous, but if done properly you are actually convinced that the other guy can't have survived. Love the video!
You do see those type of moves nowadays. Maybe not in the Watered-down Wrestling Entertainment, but in TNA and ROH you do get see sick drivers like that.
