  • Really nice version of this wonderful etude.

  • Comment removed

  • fantastic

  • Your playing is very inspiring! I play this composition myself now, but I don't like my way of playing it very much. Great work!

  • I was looking for more interpretations of this etude and yours is spectacular! Thanks for offering another way to appreciate my favorite piece :].

  • It's lovely music thanks for sharing.

  • You've got this piece down beautifully! Great phrasing and sensitivity, your rubato is lovely. I didn't expect this from a guy dressed in an Adidas shirt and baseball hat! Love the way you play! Love your politics too and couldn't agree more. BTW, what kind of piano do you have? Nice tone!

  • Wonderful phrasing and each note has a clear distinctive sound. You got did it. Thanks so much.

  • Excellent Playing!! I adore this piece, and I must say your version is one of my favorite in Youtube.

  • awesome man. you are amazing! can you teach me?? :D

  • Sweet!!

  • Excellent expression. This is one of my all time favorite Etudes. Actually, this Etude is the first video I recorded, hehe. Great performance.

  • You´re wonderful!

  • does anyone know why he's wearing the obama hat?

here in germany, noone actually represents their political interests with clothes.

  • @Ainigma Maybe he's not German.

  • I like your piano. It is so pretty. Keep on sharing your music with us. Thanks.

  • nice. but it aint no horowitz.

  • This is a really expressive performance, one of the few good recordings of this piece I've found on Youtube so far. I'm just starting to learn this piece and it's been helpful watching you play it. You really bring out those dissonant chords, the only thing I might suggest is a little bit more dynamic variation. Great job

  • !!! This is my favorite version on YouTube, I love how you bring out those Russian dissonances.

  • i play this piece and its so emotional and gets me in a solemn mood...you play beautifully though. how old are you...i always wondered that.

  • that was pretty good :)!!

i would recommend the playing be a bit dark toned, but anyways clap clap clap!! 5/5* bravo!

  • excellent job, if only you'd have brought out that tenor line at 1:39.

  • 'The hell are you talking about? He did!

  • absolutely beautiful...scriabin is my favorite composer and I am just starting to video myself if you want to check out my youtube debut...Dee Ireland Lewis Plays Scriabin. I just discovered you on here but I am now a subscriber I will be doing some Bach Transcriptions in about a month or so. I love your tone and your musicality I look forward to watching more of YOU..thank you so very much...

  • It is very peaceful. Sarah, age 7 says so. I like the way you sometimes dance on the bench with your body when you are playing the piano. Congratulations on getting the new piano. from Sarah and David.

  • molto espressivo!!!!

  • ur really talented, u should consider a career in music

  • You had brought me just to the verge of tears. . . if only you had brought out that tenor line at 1:39. . .

    Jk, excellent playing. Bravo.

  • Well played, just wish you'd made more of the tenor line in 1:39.

  • what does that mean. tenor line?

  • don't you hear the short "melody" beginning in 1:39?

and you don't know what "tenor" means?

  • no, what does it mean?

  • MAKE MORE VIDEOS!!!!! And get sponsored!!! Dude like how are you not sponsored?! It's like the people that wants to sponsor you begg you but you say no. I don't know. But get sponsored and MAKE MORE VIDEOS!!!

  • you are absolutely fantastic!!! I love your playing!!

  • did you go to a school or are u self taught? lolz.. i am also self taught so im wondering.. if i should give up and join a teacher or keep going. what u think?

  • Scribin, believe it or not wrote this when he was 14!

    I'm a composer too!

  • Well done Jon! This is another one of my favorites! That was quite Horowitzian of you..HAHA! Wow, but seriously, why don't you share the secret with me. And don't give me any of that practice, practice practice stuff! I want the goods. What does it take to play like you???? Amazing!

  • I'm so impressed by you- you have a certain finesse to your sound that is so hard to achieve.. bravo!!

  • I just found out today that you were posting again. Of course I am going to watch them all! I enjoy your spirit. Oh, and nice piano.

    :D

  • Beautiful! :) I could listen to you all day.. ;)

  • Bravo Bravo.

    ONCORE.

That is amazing how u did that.

    EXCELENT WORK.

  • Perfect!! this is a good job, you are a great artist, I'm trying to be a pianist but after listening this...

  • Beautifully done. I especially like your overall sound, and the way your inner voices come and go without sounding too intrusive. Rubato is just right.

  • Beautiful! Flawless! I have to learn some Scriabin while you're in Denmark.

  • Amazing what can i say

  • perhaps "make up" for it was a bad phrase, Ill just shut my trap now :)

  • Love it! Thanks for posting!

  • I tried out a smaller Boston at a piano dealership...and wasn't incredibly impressed with it. Then again, it's smaller than the 7' piano Mother and Father bought for me.

The piece is very well played.

  • Finally had some free time so I could watch a few of the videos you sent me. Your playing is definitely improving(not that it was bad before) I like the way you play this piece.

  • Thanks alot Jeffrey, where have you been man?

  • I have been around, recently in chicago where I had an audition at CCPA to get back in. Also had one in nashville for belmont. I am going to michigan to play some concerts for a church in late june. How have you been?

  • PianoPlaya123 Very, very fine - a heartfelt performance with exquisite rubatos and

marvelous sense of line. Ignore the dilettantes who ask why you didn't bring out this or that - you DID bring out this and that! Tiny suggestion: that last c# could be played more softly - make the piece evanesce into silence.. Scriabin at fourteen was incredible. I advocate myself what you did as things wind down to a close - a gradual ritardando, as if life itself were slowing down to its final moments.

  • thought I don't agree with your political leanings, your playing more than makes up for it. It is amazing how young Scriabin was when he wrote this, and that he able to put such emotion into it.

Thanks for keeping these classics alive!

  • I support Obama and the fact that he mentions "keeping the classics alive" and focusing on the fine and performing arts as part of his early childhood education plan which no other candidate in this race has mentioned once. My playing doesn't "make up" for it as I don't see any downside to my political leanings. It supports the desire to keep the classics and good music in general alive through our youth.

  • Hi, I just listened to your performance and I really liked the sound of your new piano=). Actually, what technique does this etude give you??

  • I have no idea actually

  • Bravo!

  • When did you get this? Your new piano sounds excellent and I am jealous! :P

Great work on the sensitive Scriabin playing.

  • great piece, good job ! beautiful new piano with a great sound ! A.D. :))

  • Thanks for sending you sound great, nice to see some one else that loves the sound of a grand piano. when I perform my shows I would not dream of using anything else.

    Cheers Colin Roy

  • Nice to hear you again and congrats on the new piano.

  • Beautiful Johnathan.. Sounds & Feels like a gentle breeze... Love This! All My stars...

  • Thanks for continuing to visit my channel Annie!

  • Bravo!! That has to be one of the best Scriabin performances ever. & I'd like to pass on a compliment on your hat!

  • Nice. Well played & lovely sound/tone. What piano is that? From the logo, I can see that it isnt a Steinway.

  • Thanks, it's a Boston piano which is made by Steinway

  • Thanks. pardon my ignorance....but does the open top have anything to do with its sound quality being much better than a normal house 'box' piano?

Then again ive heard grand pianos being played with its top closed & they still sound better than a house piano......quality & workmanship i suppose.....thats why grands always cost a bomb dont they??

  • That's not ignorance, not all that many people recognize Boston or recognize it as being designed by Steinway, it is definitely a great piano though. I just opened the top because I think the sound is more clear when recorded.

Yes by the way, the work of the technician makes a huge difference in terms of pianos, this one sounds like a completely different instrument since I got a new technician.

  • Fantastic talent!!!

  • Definetely a lovely piece you picked. Congratulations on the new piano! I love its sound! And you're playing this from memory! 7 stars.

  • I enjoyed the concert!!!

  • beautiful new piano and beautiful playing well done =D

  • Fantastic, one of my favorite pieces!

Love the sound of your new pinao

Your playing is really really good

When will we see you performing at the London Royal festival Hall?

  • Was that a pitch for Obama too? ; ) I voted for Clinton in the IL primary. But I will support Obama now that he has it nearly won. Great video!

  • Obama '08!

  • Awesome as usual. Beautiful touch and very smooth time. This is pure music and NO BS at all. Congrats man.

    L.

  • very nice...MIKMA WAS HERE

  • nice

  • Fabulous video. I think it gets a bit out-of-sync with the sound. It also wouldn't be that hard to mic it in stereo and post the videos in stereo ;-) I love the different camera angles. It would be nice to have a fourth overhead camera directly above the keys as well -- this would likely require a camera crane.

  • Definiteley used neumann stereo mic pair, maybe I need to be walked through the FLV process again because I thought I succeeded this time hahaha guess not, help me man!

  • What are you using? KM184s? The key in the recording is to make sure the left mic is panned left and the right mic is panned right so the final product is not in mono (center channel). Once you have the .wav file that is in stereo then you sync it with the video . . . export the video as a full-quality AVI . . . then convert that AVI to an FLV with MP3 audio before uploading it to Youtube ;-) If done this way it would also be pretty much ready to throw on a CD and sell.

  • ahhhhh! I see, my mics aren't panned that way in my software anymore, i'll try to do this process on a PC from now on too when converting

  • Its so great your back at making videos! What kind of piano are you playing on?

  • Thanks a lot! I'm using 7'1" Boston piano designed by Steinway

  • woo man!!

that was good, dude, if you have time, check out my vids, :D, i'm kinda composer, haha, keep on man, cu. -chang

  • THANKS I TRULY ENJOYED
