Its not just the size or weight that I am referring to, its how akward he has to hold it. From what I seen most of the weight is riding on one shoulder as opposed to a pack with 2 straps and a lbv.
You know the Marine with the big horn in the back can out hump any grunt with combat gear. That thing is huge. I would rather carry a 50 cal. on a 25 mile hike.
When my Dad would hear this, he would grow taller, his shoulders would square and upper torso would become ramrod straight and tears would gather in his eyes. He LOVED HIS Marine Corps. To the Ladies and Gentle men who have chosen to sign the blank check, Thank you, OOH RAH, and Semper Fi.
@david640 Marine Musicians in the Fleet Marine Bands do in fact go through recruit training and Marine combat training. So the members of this band are "full Marines." Bands even deploy to combat zones, though you won't see them kicking in doors and such. They usually do base security.
Members of "The President's Own" Marine Band in Washington, DC don't go through boot or MCT, but train for military life excluding the combat part. They're professional symphony orchestra grade musicians.
Can anyone dispel the the myth for me: Marine Band members " aren't really Marines" since they don't through Boot Camp or have to qualify each year for rifle.I have heard this arguement for many years, but now I need to know the truth.
I don't mean to start an arguemnt I am just trying to find out the truth.
@david640 From what I understood, they don't go through a full bootcamp - but have to get the proper physical grade of a marine. They're physically fit - but obviously they're not warriors, they're musicians. Nothing wrong with that - doesn't make them a lesser marines.
@AvihooI Your absolutely right and I wasn't trying to imply that they were a lesser Marine, at least they can wear the uniform, I won't ever have that honor.
The band featured may be a Marine band, but is obviously not THE Marine Corps Band. One Sousaphone? As far as a contest between the Royal Marine Corps Band and the US MCB, J.P. Sousa would disagree. The video shown is taking liberties in the percussion that J.P.S. would never tolerate; the Bass drum would be playing in straight 4. Listen to the full band play Semper Fidelis or Stars and Stripes Forever. then tell me about the Royal Marine Corps Band. :-)
To those of you wondering, 29 Palms is a tiny little town outside of the MCAGCC in the Mojave desert. I wouldn't expect to see huge crowds of people lining the streets as there really aren't that many people there.
I always love the US Marine Corps band. I never get tired of hearing them. I'm sure it takes a lot of practice playing music, but it is well worth hearing them playing for generations and generations to come.
the drums at the end of the video are playing our marching cadence. when we march to a gig site we use this cadence as opposed to a Marine being out calling cadence (left right left etc...) not meant to be crazy flashy or anything. just something to march in step.
@PRESTON58CENT Accherly they are. The band of Her Majesties Royal Marine Band Service are the best marching band in the entire world. They are also are fully flegged fighting infantry, medical and driving soliders. They HM Royal Marines also do the best drum displays in the world, which after looking at the USMC's drum solos, are good but not as good as the Royal Marines. You just need to face the fact that HM Royal Marine Band are better. Thats why they are Royal.
I was in the 29 Palms Marine Band from 1963-1964. There is nothing like a Marine band even to this day. Had 4 wonderful years serving in Marine bands in North Carolina, California, Japan & Vietnam. Got selected to march in the 1964 Rose Bowl Parade with select members from all of the Marine Bands on the West Coast. Semper FI
@NamVetBuck how about 15 years in the british army. man and boy, serving with equivelent of your National Guard. 15th Battallion The Parachute Regiment (Boy Drummer, Support Company, Mortars, 15 yrs old to 17.5 yrs old). @aolthof007 ..Yeah, me too...what is "contrived" and how can you apply it to this piece? Most music IS contrived, written by a composer and meant to be played as written. Notice that I said MOST music.
i think they mean with the lack of people around that it was a practice or somehow created by the maker of the video. good none the less just looks like it was made not you happen to be there and by chance it was recorded
@inuyasha32 This was done at a parade in the city of 29 Palms. The drum bit at the end happened when I came apon the lads practicing and asked them to play something for me, which they gladly did. I was not there because of the band, I was there to record a politician that was in the parade also and considered the USMC Band a bonus. I hope everyone enjoys this band as much as I do.

I really liked 29 stumps. Great place for a tanker to be and the town itself was clean and friendly. Not nearly the cesspool that say Jacksonville or Oceanside was.
And of course nothing like the slimy base towns outside most camps in Oki.
Not that I didn't cruise every single one of course.
Now I have to say after reviewing all the Marine bands this is the finest, the best, kick ass band beter then the Presidents own. Semper Fi,Palms 29 you all kick ass!
Americans is nothing but slaves. slaves for tyrants, criminal corporations who lead them across the world to die for tyrants profits.American imperialism, fascism & terrorism becoming the breeding ground for terrorist military campaine against the world working class.Large majority of Americans dont know much beyond their T.V.& video games,Narrow minded cows who give milk for tyrants, never ask why? the ultimate goal of fascism is patriotism..from Occupied Iraq.El Toro
if u consider Russians and N.Koreans soliders free mind voulunters then yes American soliders are slaves (Dont listen to commie scum propaganda there notin but uh bunch of brainwashing i might say tyrants who want notin more than the whole world 2 kiss there ass) CAPITALISM RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My father was in the US Navy, but he always said that the Marines had one thing that the Army never had. The full support of a fleet with some of the largest guns in the world. When it absolutely needs to be destroyed, just call in a Marine. If he can't get it, he can tell the Navy where to pound it.
My father was in the United States Army Air Corps. General Patton, commented that when the air corps worked something over, they worked it over...
But, Semper Fi. any way. I got a Great new Idea for a NEW branch of the U.S. armed forch...The United States Army Air Marine Corps. Look at it this way...We would have a Great Infantry, a Great Air Force(Corps) and we could go on a Fabulous Cruise that no one could match. The details need just al little working out.
I was in that band from 02-05, trust me, we had to go through Boot Camp, just like every other Marine. The only band that doesn't is the President's Own.
You heard wrong Freaky, or you were not paying attention.
There is no way in hell you get to wear that uniform and the EGA and call yourself a Marine with out going through and completing USMC Recruit training (boot camp) at either Parris Island or MCRD San Diego.
And those are definitely Marines!... and Riflemen.
93015... The song is simply called "The Marine Corp Hymm"
The only band members that do not go through boot camp are in the President's Own. All of the other band members go to boot camp, SOI and then to the band MOS school. And it is the Marines Hymn not the Marine Corp Hymn.
Everyone goes through Boot Camp. You can't call yourself Marine in the enlisted or officer ranks without going through screening first. I think you mean advanced infantry training.

The details need just al little working out.
pjezierski 2 years ago
that would cost alot of money and the usmc has one of the best airforces in the world.but good idea semper fidels
PRESTON58CENT 2 years ago
That could be done with a couple of hanggliders and a few Marines with a bag of grenades a piece.
Beside there are too many good Marines lost forever when they "Swing with the Wing!" :) Semper Fi.

I was in that band from 02-05, trust me, we had to go through Boot Camp, just like every other Marine. The only band that doesn't is the President's Own.

altoids79762 2 years ago 3
You heard wrong Freaky, or you were not paying attention.
There is no way in hell you get to wear that uniform and the EGA and call yourself a Marine with out going through and completing USMC Recruit training (boot camp) at either Parris Island or MCRD San Diego.
And those are definitely Marines!... and Riflemen.
93015... The song is simply called "The Marine Corp Hymm"
GeddyBre 2 years ago
The only band members that do not go through boot camp are in the President's Own. All of the other band members go to boot camp, SOI and then to the band MOS school. And it is the Marines Hymn not the Marine Corp Hymn.

hillfreaky 2 years ago
Everyone goes through Boot Camp. You can't call yourself Marine in the enlisted or officer ranks without going through screening first. I think you mean advanced infantry training.
