@stevenk79 totally agree, she has one of the most powerful vocals that has ever been around. what she lacks is the production/remixing that other less worthy singers go for.... her back catalogue should be re-produced, remixed and re-packaged for the charts/club scene and then she'd blow every other artist out of the water....if you listen to artists like madonna, she actually has a very weak wobbly vocal... its all masked by the production and remixes and of course her extravagant shows.
Donna is always perfect in my book no matter how many years have passed she still sounds as great as ever & I will continue to buy her albums as long as she keeps making them!
I have been a DONNA SUMMER fan since I was little. I bought the album CRAYONS, which is fantastic. I LOOOVVVVEEEE this song. Can't get enough of it. The original DISCO QUEEN.
the word disco died the music didnt. madonnas "confessions" was pure disco, chers "living proof" was disco, oh exuse me dance, this is an awful comeback, i was expecting a "cher like" comeback, but instead we get a mish mash of bland pop tunes, not radio friendly at all. "im a fire" is the closest thing to dance/disco on the album, and its awful!! donna needs to go back to her roots, the way madonna did on "confessions"
i' can't believe all this negative energy you either like the song or you don't. plain and simple. donna is marketable if you are basing your sales on talent she still has oodles of it! sings better in one note that these no true talent, teeny boppers out there. donnahas been in the music business for over 40yrs and still going strong especially in concerts.alot of these young female singers are here to day and gone tomorrow!
My point: because of all these factors, you can't promote her like Tina Turner was - Donna's mass sex appeal was left behind in 1980, and sex sells. If she were a Broadway performer, she could get by on talent and class alone. If only Bob Mackie could come onboard and dress her....
Well lefty look like your wrong. That album has just enter billboard as #17. And #5 on the R&B. I bet this ablum does really well. It has solid great material.
the album had a promising debut, but it sank fast, with no hit single on radio, the album cannot stand on its own, radio is ignoring "stamp your feet" with its "aint no holla back girl" type beat, its just not donna.. come on donna give us a "cher like" album...not this shit
why are'nt they promoting her the way a huge star like her should be? where are the new videos?
without promotion, videos, tv appereances, interviews, magazine covers, in this mevisual media culture this has failure written all over! And she deserves a huge comeback!! The woman is truly a star, a true singer/songwriter unlike that awful bunch of over produced, talentlesss bitches with nothing to say and bad vocal skill, namely the one that's number one all over the world right now.
Here's my theory: perfect storm. Donna started in 1974-75, when posters and album art were all the promotion you had. By the time video came along in 1979-81, she was 32, born-again, so "sensual/sexual" portrayals of her were left behind with the Bad Girls cover art (which many str8 men "appreciated" at the time!). Then she was remarried and starting her second family, so having posters of Mom in a miniskirt a la Tina Turner was not kosher. And like ABBA, her new 80's material was too mature.
for the pop charts. Don't forget, Disco died a rude death in white male suburbia, disco icons were cast aside (except for Blondie) for the new sound, and Pat Benatar took over until Madonna appeared.
hate to break this to you, blondie was never a disco icon, "heart of glass" was disco, but that was their second album, their first album being rock, and the second also being rock with disco elements, they were never classified as a "disco" group.....
why arent they promoting? are u kidding? she debuted this single on AI the most watched tv show. shes been on numerous televison shows, david letterman, good morning america, the only thing that wasnt done was a video. and i suspect the label wanted to see how the reaction was at radio and the general public, which by the way is not good, the single is being ignored at radio, im not surprised, its awful
I hope for a more "disco" sounding version to be released.. but I love your collection of pics - what a gorgeous lady!! When disco died in 1980-81, too many valid icons were DISGARDED for the punk and new wave people following them - Donna is a Minelli/Streisand/Garland/Franklin/Deitrich/Piaf worthy icon, and should be celebrated as such. I like Madonna, but am amazed how she replaced Donna in the 80's so quickly (even singing the same dance/disco style) - racism?
I so love this song. I am not gonna hate on ya, okay, but, I have to agree that it is repetitive. Trust me though, you have the right thing in mind. So, kudos to you for putting it out there! Donna REIGNS AGAIN!
Don't want to be negative here but this mix is a bit too repetitive and sometimes makes it kind of unbearable to listen and yes I know it's not an official remix. I think that the original has already too much vocals and in my opinion it really makes it messy repeating them over and over... It makes it all very confusing and hard to listen. But really thank you for promoting this song. It really needs some promotion.
Hope Sony gets its act together and soon post here the real video clip.
