Maybe my favorite TV show of all time. The scripts, the characters, the casting, the music, the cinematography were all as good as it gets. I know it sounds cliche, but I guess it was just too good for network TV.
AS I RECALL THE WRITER'S STRIKE KILLED THE SHOW JUST AT WAS READY TO HIT THE BIG TIME. IT'S A SHAME IT WAS CANCELED AND IT WAS PROBABLY THE BEST AND LAST OF IT'S KIND BUT THAT'S OK NOW BECAUSE WE HAVE GREAT SHOWS ON TV LIKE SARAH PALIN'S ALASKA TO ENTERTAIN US, YAWN.
At :38, there is a shot of the statue of San Lazaro who greets visitors to F&F Candle and Botanical on Broad and Orleans, your one-stop Catholic/voodoo/Santeria supply store. It's nowhere NEAR where any tourists dare to go.
Any show about New Orleans that thought to put something like that in the opening credits has some people behind it that know the real New Orleans and not the cliche Hollywood version of New Orleans.

Frank's Place was the best "sitcom" I ever saw. Sublime, honest and colorblind. Tim Reid must have scared the white people at CBS with this masterpiece for American television. I would pay Mr. Reid almost anything for dvds of this remarkable show. It is a national treasure.
@teacherlounger I agree. One of the best shows on televison. I still don't understand why it didn't continue. Poignant, clever, smart and funny,....maybe that is why....too smart and funny. I would also love to get the DVDs of this series.
I wish I could see whole episodes of Frank's Place--I've only ever seen clips. Anyone know how I can get access to the shows on some video format?!? Help! :-)
There is so much cxxp on TV that passes for entertainment and something like this comes along that is so witty and intelligent, head and shoulders above the dross, that it's just a crying shame it gets panned almost out of the gate. It's a pity they weren't allowed enough episodes to reach syndication. Too bad for those of you whom never had the chance to see it. Unfortunately, it will never be aired again anywhere.
this will be a classic when it comes back. Maybe some of the black media moguls can un can it. Cosby, Johnson Arsenio, Tim, can you do this for our posterity?
There is one person to blame for the cancellation of a great show like this - Lawrence Tisch. He had issues with the premise for the last episode produced entitled "King of Wall Street." Apparently he saw is as a slap in the face because the script took pot shots at Wall Street wizards who used junk bonds at that time (at that time he'd used junk bonds to buy the network). The person who told Tim Reid this was none other than Walter Cronkite. I found this out from the book "Tim and Tom."
Frank's Place is my all-time favorite TV show. I wish BET would show episodes again, or they'd be made available on DVD. Who can forget the guys taking the dead body around for "last drinks," or "picka-picka-picka little cotton."
@Joannakathryn -- BET showing this was one of the last RESPONSBILE things that network ever did. It would be great if TV One of even BET's wannabe grown-up station Centric were to pick this up. This show has often been called the most realistic look at black life ever brought to the small screen...all classes mingling together, black and white, northern and southern.
@Odawg96 --I loved this show because it wasn't so much about black or white people, but people who cared about each other. Remember when Frank met the funeral director (his real-life wife) and she stuck her hand in ice before she shook hands with him? Priceless!
@Joannakathryn OMG I STILL break up when I think about the "picka-picka-picka-picka-picka bail 'o cotton" scene - remember the looks on the faces of the patrons? Priceless! What made it super funny is that the singing act was actually a HIT at the end - ha!
@LoveofJoao1 --Right as poor Frank was "hanging down his head," you hear the room erupt in applause and cheers downstairs. And remember, "Them ain't no ladies, Frank." Somebody needs to make this available again.
A shame this show didn't last....

All sitcoms should be this literate, this textured; why subject us to crudity and garbage?

Maybe the worst crime in the history of television was to pull this show after one season.
