OK, there are very many comments on this video. I quote a previous viewer "the civilian guy is Johann Reichhart, a German executioner. They were required by law to do so in England and the Pierepoints did those hangings. This looks like a long drop hanging.
This is a very interesting scene because it is an American military execution and is apparently being conducted by civilian executioners. Tom (uncle) and Albert (nephew) conducted all the American military hangings in England, using the British long drop calculations and rope. Steve Fielding's book "Pierrepoint: A Family of Executioners" lists all the jobs conducted by Harry (father of Albert), Tom (Harry's brother) and Albert. This is not on the list. So, who ARE the hangmen? I have no idea.

Thanx for the upload. Anyone that is interested should look up the people of the Dachau trial, what they did, and why they were hanged at Landesberg. There were about 15 or 20 names on the list I seen sentenced to hang, including Otto Moll, Claus Schilling, and Englebert Niedermeyer. All deserved much worse than hanging.

The "jig" you refer to is simply reflex twitching in the spinal reflex arc - occurs after death when the nerves in the lower spine are stimulated and does not indicate that the spine had not been severed correctly in the region of the 3rd vertebrae, as should occur during hanging. Kicking due to failure to sever the spinal column is quite different. The victim was probably already dead.

On the previous night the RAF had bombed factories in Rüsselsheim, killing mainly slave laborers denied access to the air-raid shelters. But local people were furious. Eight crew from a US B24 shot down near Hanover was on their way to a POW camp north of Frankfurt through Rüsselsheim. There they were attacked by a large mob lead by Nazi officials that overwhelmed their escort and beat the prisoners to death. After the war the US Army sentenced five of the mob to death by hanging.

OK, there are very many comments on this video. I quote a previous viewer "the civilian guy is Johann Reichhart, a German executioner. Until the end of May 1946, he executed 156 Nazi war criminals at Landsberg." It is still curious that Americans used a civilian executioner here. They were required by law to do so in England and the Pierepoints did those hangings. This looks like a long drop hanging.

This is a very interesting scene because it is an American military execution and is apparently being conducted by civilian executioners. Tom (uncle) and Albert (nephew) conducted all the American military hangings in England, using the British long drop calculations and rope. Steve Fielding's book "Pierrepoint: A Family of Executioners" lists all the jobs conducted by Harry (father of Albert), Tom (Harry's brother) and Albert. This is not on the list. So, who ARE the hangmen? I have no idea.

There were about 15 or 20 names on the list I seen sentenced to hang, including Otto Moll, Claus Schilling, and Englebert Niedermeyer. All deserved much worse than hanging.

That's the most competent hangman in history you are referring to - Albert Pierrepoint.
The "jig" you refer to is simply reflex twitching in the spinal reflex arc - occurs after death when the nerves in the lower spine are stimulated and does not indicate that the spine had not been severed correctly in the region of the 3rd vertebrae, as should occur during hanging. Kicking due to failure to sever the spinal column is quite different. The victim was probably already dead.

Hero's for killing thousands of innocent people? I'm not trying to talk good the German atrocities, but those people who worked on those bombs and who were involved in it should be also for life in prison. You know who are heroes? The A-Bomb was a horrific means to an end but ultimately less people lost their lives in Hiroshima & Nagasaki than would've had the Battle of Japan continued with conventional weapons. That's why it was decided to drop the bomb - to force Japanese surrender and cut the war short by many months. We can discuss whether it was the lesser or bigger of two evils but fact is - Japan attacked America first and terrorized the whole Pacific Rim like the Nazis did most of Europe. They had to be defeated!
