  • Awesome vid my friend ... Thx

  • Does VMware Fusion 2.0 have have to be installed the first time you install Windows OS on ur Mac? Like at the same time?

  • Vmware fusion should be installed first as it will actually walk you through the windows install. However, if your going to use it on a bootcamp partition then you can go ahead and install windows through bootcamp and VM ware will pick it up automatically.

  • If you used boot camp before and have windows still installed, after installation of WMware fusion it will automatically recognize windows OS installed on the partition of the HDD and will allow you to load it from the other partition to the virtual machine. That's what I heard in all the reviews and stuff for VMware fusion 2.0, didn't try it out but I'm almost sure it does.

  • its ok if you have a system like pirillo with 16gigs of ram and ssd's so in systems like that games are fine!

  • Really helpful man, thanks very much. Going to use AutoCAD '08 on my air this weeeeek. Yeeeah!!

    Cheers maa'ha

  • whats vegas..?

    pardon me..

  • A Movie Maker

    Sony Vegas 9.0

  • i have a quiestion can i ran OSX on a vista opposite from parallels, using parallels or vmware or any other software?

  • Hey Soldier, i want to play windows games on my imac. would u suggest using bootcamp or VM? which would run games better?

  • can you have bootcamp and vusion so say if u want to run windows from the start you can do that....but if you want to switch to os x you can also do that?

  • yes

boot camp comes pre-installed with every mac. although you would have to boot to an os natively (upon start up) when using bootcamp

vmware/ parallels allow to start-up windows without restarting your mac

  • SoldierKnowsBest is FUSION better than parallels? please advice.

    -Heck

  • We think it is! Fusion wins all the biggest awards, and has the biggest market share!

  • Hey VMware, I'm about to go to your site and buy this software - mostly thanks to Soldier's video.

  • 7:14 do i see a jailbraik application!?

  • Fool screen.

  • is this the trial version soldier or the one you have to buy?

  • pleaseeeee answer my question????

will that software let me use msn messenger and it's webcam, so i can web chat and all??????

because that's all i really need from windows

  • yes it would but couldnt u just get microsoft office for mac?

  • Yup. You can totally use your Mac's webcam passed into the virtual machine, if you like!

  • There is a software called CrossOver that let you insall windows softwares on mac without having to use a virtualmachine. The installation process is not very fluence though, but it's also a good consideration for using windows app on osx.

  • Awesome video! I'm trying to get my mom to get us a macbook as our "family computer"..but she is scared of swtiching over the macs because she doesn't know much about comps. With this program, it might change her mind!

  • sorry for asking does VMWARE or VPC changes your partiion table and causes datalosing? i share my computer with my brothers and sisters, so i need my harddisk intact!:)

  • this was a great vid, one thing, do you need to have boot camp installed already in order to use vmware or parelles??

  • Great, thanks.

  • I think showing the installation will be more helpful. Everyone can always figure out how to use this setup. please create a new video showing the installation. Good job.

  • This is what i want to go into the military for so i can get money for new technology and do my own tech show, and now i see that it can be done

  • Definitely subscribe to SoldierKnowsBest, he knows what he's talking about. Awesome presentation. Thanks!

  • which is better?

    Parallels or vm ware fusion?

  • up to you

  • both are good but i think that vmware is easier to use and parallels is more advanced (i have both)

  • Very very good!

  • so if i wanted to do gaming in windows on the mac you would suggest bootcamp?

  • yes

  • i'd say bootcamp.

beacuse games are graphic/ ram intensive unlike applications like word.

better to use bootcamp for games and 3d applications like maya, 3ds max etc

  • when im in Unity mode if i were to minimize a windows app the app would disappear. in order for me to maximize the app again i have to exit unity. is their a fix or way around this?

  • Same thing with me

I don think there is a way around it

  • good job man, really helped me make a decision on buying a mac

  • thats sumthin i did not know

  • soldiers do know best, u guys risk ur lives for our country, a big high five to u guys! ^5

  • someone help me out here, can you install vista and XP? so have three options when you boot up mac.

  • yep.

you could divide your hard drive to several partitions. you could install windows and linux.

access both via bootcamp or vmware/ paralles.

  • I read that you can use the boot camp partition in VMware.

  • That is where it's at, being able to use two platforms on the one computer-

  • it wants a windows disk

  • I type this message to you from a fresh installation of VMWare Fusion...thanks Soldier, I appreciate the tip. Keep 'em coming.

  • No, I definitely don't love that sound in the morning! :)

  • great review! keep up the awesome work!

  • The sight of XP takes me back. Great video soldier.

  • you dont use xp at your school or your job?

  • No man. My job is as a graphic designer. I'm 100% Apple OS X tiger. And my blood pressure has gone down for it ^_^

  • Hi SoldierKnowsBest

I have just ordered a new Macbook Pro - and it will be my first Mac after using Windows my whole life (2 decades of "contact your administrator" error messages eventually got to me). I can't wait! Your videos are excellent and have been very helpful to me. Keep it up.

    Don.

  • what do you use to make your vids like the picture in picture ...screen flow ?

  • Yeah, it is, you can see his icon in the dock bar.

  • i don't see the point, for a medium-mac user (that normally say that Windows is shit and it has nothing more than a mac) to install this application.

  • games, apps.

  • I have VMWare sitting on my bookshelf. I'm going to install it eventually and see how smoothly it will run vista in a virtual machine.

  • Wow that is an amazing program.

  • Can't wait to switch to Mac!

  • switch to ubuntu. Youll be more comfortable if you use another OS like mac before you switch to it.

  • I actually already have ubuntu on one of my lower class pcs but lets face it its not compatavle with much!

  • yeah... but hey new os! I use ubuntu and vista and leopard

  • Me to :D!!

  • "Ugh, Windows..." Ha ha, I love it! Great video. This will be very useful if/when I switch to Mac.

  • i think it might be annoying for window users if they want to use window in bootcamp and they have to restart everytime on their mac just to use the windows. I think parallel, fusion or other software that able to use window is better than bootcamp. (in my opinion).

  • "dont you just love that sound in the morning?"

  • Yup VirtualBox is FREE and works across all platforms :) cheak it out.

  • good knowledge of the software before hand and awesome demonstration! you just made vmware $80!

  • I just checked and VirtualBox is available on Mac OSX. And It's free.

  • There is a very similar application called VirtualBox and It's free. Its available on Windows and Linux. I don't know about Mac.

  • Windows is just as capable of doing all this if it weren't for Apple's ULA stating that OSX is only to be installed on an Apple product. I mean it doesn't stop you from doing so. But Apple is extremely greedy. They like to brag about how Mac's can run Windows. But don't allow PC users to run OSX even though they can. And people think microsoft is bad for that? OSX is a solid OS. But I don't like Apple.

  • Microsoft sucks!!!, windows is less stable than os x.

I have been a windows costumer for years I switched about a year ago to mac and I love it!!! I love Apple!!!

and yes i now what you think (that I'm a mac fan boy....)

    and its true.

but apple rocks and Apple is not greedy they are just trying to keep there perfect os with no bugs etc... (if os x will support pc it would cost apple a lot to make drivers for all that hardware out on the PC market....).

  • lol at least you admit you're a fanboy :)

but I'm not a fanboy of either windows or OS X. I have two PC's and a Mac. They're all great. But yes, windows definitely has issues more then my Mac does. But apple doesn't have to do anything to support PC. They only have to let the companies making the hardware allowed to make drivers to support OS X. Apple doesn't allow that. So it's Apple's fault that OS X can't run on any PC.

  • And the only expense for Apple would be some people would build them self an OS X machine instead of buying an Apple. But over all. I'm a gamer. So PC is the only way to go when it comes to gaming. I don't think OS X supports CrossfireX. Which allows me to use 4 monitors while running CrossfireX(unlike SLI). Correct me if I'm wrong. But I can certainly understand why you like your Mac so much.

  • with a mac pro you can use up to 8 monitors if you'll add a total of 4 GPU'S but I do agree that pc is better for games.

I'm a gamer ass well ass a software programmer and a web designer and I use my mac pro for programing and other creative stuff but for gaming I have a PC:

    core 2 quad 6600 2.4ghz

    9800x2 with 1024mb

    8GB of ram

    vista ultimate 64bit

and i have more problems with my "super" pc than my mac....

so i love my mac :) apple rocks!!!

  • Nice machine.

    I've got Core2Quad Q6600 OC to 3.01GHz

    Liquid Cool

    2 x Radeon 3870 512mb Crossfire

4GB of ram OC to 1GHz

    Vista Ultimate 64

and i have way more problems with my super pc then my mac too.

I just have an older iMac. But it's pretty solid.

  • yep! its mac 4ever!

  • would you do a video about screen flow and how to use it? i wanna use it but i dont know how. its really confusing....Thanks!

  • MY dad works for VMWare, Go fusion!

  • hey! what do you think of 8.10?

  • great vid...

  • You say you can dedicate cores. Would this still apply to your system even when Windows is not on

  • you spelled subscribe wrong and you have been doing that for awhile now

  • It's always pissed me off the Mac users get the use of all or most of Microsofts products including Windows, but all PC users get is iTunes an Safari. And we get slap on the wrist if we even try to get any Apple OS on a PC.

  • well first off Microsoft is just a software company, they don't make hardware, they Have their software installed in any OEM out there like DELL, HP, SONY. Apple sells hardware so why would they want their OS on a pc. Microsoft doesn't care is an apple machine could run windows or any other microsoft program they are making money. If you want Apple software you have to buy a mac. If Microsoft mad computer they would do the same thing too, you have t buy there hardware to have windows.

  • great videos man

  • hey soldier why dont you download via torrent the beta of windows 7 and run it on bootcamp

  • im just wondering, since your in the Military, do u like McCain.

    ((u dont have to answer))

  • can you undo bootcamp if you don't like it? if yes, then how?

  • Just run Boot Camp Assistant again and select "create or remove Boot Camp partition" (maybe it's called a little bit different in english), it will expand your Mac partition to the whole HDD. Unfortunately it apparently sometimes didn't delete the MBR on my machine. So it still always tried to boot into Windows. So maybe it's better to choose your HFS partition as primary to boot into because after it deleted the Win partition you won't be able to do this I guess.

  • At two minutes and fifty-eight seconds great joke, I was rollin! Great Vid though.

  • What was funny at 2:50 ?

  • wow, i can see this guy being a youtube star...

  • great video, i wanna get call of duty 4 for my mac but im not sure to get the PC or mac version(i have bootcamp), because maybe some might have there better points to each version what do you recommend?

  • Call of Duty 4 for the Mac runs just fine. No problems I've heard of.

  • please SoldierKnowsBest show us yourself playing Far Cry 2 pleaseeee XD
