in nz we call the gut part the pear, and if they are white you can eat them raw only fresh tho and they are beautiful ! yumyum!! most of them are green or light green the real pale green ones you can eat too they have a slight bitter taste but are still nice...alot of the old people eat the green ones to ... but way to bitter for me ! it tastes like a creamy oyster mmmm also I dont understand why you scrub them that is wasted flavour .... we never do that here.
