When I was 8 years old I received one of these trains for Christmas. Mine ran about 20 minutes before the transformer caught fire. Needless to say I returned it and purchased some replacement parts for my grandfathers old Marx! It is still running 46 years later.
I had one of these. I can't remember what year, '65 was it '66? maybe a little later. I do remember that the add ons like side signals and trees were a hard plastic that push into holes on the board. Broke them pretty easy.
In this commercial, the statement is made "years of fun for everyone". They should of said, take a good look, Gilbert is about done. This is the last stuff that American Flyer built before they were sold to Lionel. There was no quality of any kind in these train sets.
I think that kid is some kind of jedi or something. Nobody can put a train on the track that fast and have it be perfect!

Cute idea - Bachmann should have done something like this in HO.

Yes! I have one, but just a loop, no switches. Also have the Winter Wonderland version with the pre-painted snow. Tons of fun for everyone!
